Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-In engines in which the fuel is injected without spraying air, a mechanically-operated by-pass valve o between the chamber m above the spraying-valve g and the fuel-tank h is opened between the fuel injections to allow any air in the chamber m to be returned to the fuel-tank. It may also return to the tank surplus fuel delivered by the pump a, and thus controls the amount of fuel injected. The pipe n may be connected to other points in the supply system than the chamber m.
