Abstract

141,427. Lander, T. E. Jan. 15, 1919. Variable-speed and reversing epicyclic gearing comprises two or more trains each having an eccentric planet-gear such as 6 with internal teeth 5 and external teeth 15. In the two-train arrangement shown, a shaft 4 can be driven from a shaft 1 through a first train at two forward and one reversed speeds. For each of these speeds on the shaft 4, a shaft, 38 can be driven at two speeds through a second train. A gear 34 meshing with the internal gear 5 is secured to a sleeve 3 having a key connexion with the shaft 1. The planet-gear 6 is supported in a revoluble cage 8. The gear 15 meshes with an internal gear 16, which is secured to the shaft 4 and to the first gear 25 of the second train. The shaft 1 may be slid within the sleeve 3 to engage a clutch head 19 with a head 18 on the shaft 4, for the first speed. For the second speed of the shaft 4, the shaft 1 is withdrawn and the cage 8 is held by a brake, the gear train being operative. For reversed driving, the sleeve 3 is slid inwards to cause the gear 34 to be connected to the gear 5 through a pair of fixed idlers 33, 14 The planetgear 27 of the second train has internal teeth 26 meshing with the gear 25, and external teeth 30 meshing with an internal gear 31 upon a sleeve 36 combined with a sliding shaft 38 like the shaft 1.
