Abstract

1397577 Terminal CGEE ALSTHOM 28 Dec 1972 [31 Dec. 1971] 59924/72 Heading H2E An electric terminal 1 has a clamping screw 5 slightly inclined to the insertion axis of a conductor 8 in a fixed jaw 3. The tail of the screw thread; engages the tapped bore of a ring 6 trapped in the cavity 16 but pivotable about ridges 24 in upstanding wings 23 of a U-shaped trough 2 which constitutes a body having- an input face 20. Rotation of the screw 5 causes it to advance, driving a mobile jaw 4 which, by engagement of its lugs 10 in slots 19 of the. wings 23, is guided down at an angle steeper than that of the screw axis, to clamp the conductor 7 against serrations on the fixed jaw 3. All movable members are captive in a main housing 1. Damage due to excessive backward rotation of the screw 5 is avoided by the termination of the thread which leaves only the plain end 15 engaged when the jaw 4 meets the stop 14. In. a modification (not illustrated), the tail of the screw (5) is captive in the ring (6) and the mobile jaw 4 has an internal thread enabling it to be advanced by engagement with the thread of the screw 5.
