Abstract

1320022 Electric couplings SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE CONSTRUCTION D'APPAREILS ET DE MATERIEL ELECTRIQUES 1 Sept 1970 [4 Sept 1969] 41815/70 Heading H2E An electrical connection between a core 23 of a main insulated cable and a bared branch cable comprises placing an electrically conductive intermediate member 18 between the two cables and exerting pressure on both cables by a pressure member such as a screw 14 which co-acts with a clamp 5 such that elongate blades 19 of the member 18 pierce the insulation 24 and contact the main cable core 23 whilst the strands 22 of the branch cable are pressed firmly against the member 18. Preferably the member 10 is hinged on one arm of the clamp and has lips 9 to co-operate with recesses 8 in the other arm after the cables and member 18 have been inserted into the clamp. The member 18 has lugs 20 to retain it axially of the cable direction whilst permitting sliding up and down the clamp arms and also removal therefrom in order to permit the insertion of the cables into the clamp. A shoe 15 may be pivotly crimped to the screw and may have teeth 17 as shown or may be concave (Fig. 7, not shown) in which case the member 18 has its teeth arranged to clamp the main cable between it and possibly prongs formed upwardly from the hole 21 (Fig. 7) whilst the branch cable is clamped between the shoe and a V-shaped recess in the untoothed face of the member 8. The blades 19 may be serrated longitudinally and the member 18 may have blades on its lower side when used as in Fig. 2. The clamp may be of bronze sheet metal bent or swaged into shape and the various other parts are of bronze or brass.
