Abstract

1465907 Sleeve connector BICC Ltd 4 March 1975 [10 Dec 1973] 57177/73 Heading H2E A sleeve connector consists of a metal, e.g. aluminium, aluminium alloys or brass body 1 with two or more parallel channels 2, closed on their open sides by slidably engaged closure members 5 and having insulation piercing projections 3 at their bases. Screws 8 in the closure members urge the insulated conductors 13 against the projections 3. The screws may be of "shear-head" 9 construction to limit the torque applied, may have insulation piercing points 12 or sharp annular edges on their inner ends and may be retained directly in the closure member or via a nut 7 and spring washer 10. The engagement of the closure member with the body may be arranged in such a way that the walls of the body tend to be drawn together as the screw is tightened. The two parallel channels may be arranged "back to back" as an alternative to the "side by side" configuration shown. The screws may be of steel and two or more may be used in each channel.
