Abstract

1,076,628. Tape-cable connectors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Dec. 20, 1965 [Dec. 17, 1964; Aug. 19, 1965], Nos. 51427/64 and 35605/65. Heading H2E. A tape-cable connector comprises two members 1 and 2, one of which carries a series of toothed contactors 8, the members being so shaped that when they are clamped together with a cable between them, the latter is pulled against the contactor teeth which plough into the insulation of the cable and make contact with its strip conductors. The second member 2 carries a clamping bar 5 to clamp the tape cable firmly to it, the bar being accommodated in a groove 6 in the first member. Between the clamping bar and the contactors, the second member has a depression 14 and the first member a corresponding enlargement so that, as the first and second members are drawn together, the cable is drawn inwards thus causing the teeth of the contactors to bite into the cable. Spring projections 12 are arranged opposite the contactors 8 and to prevent them biting right through the tape cables, or a facing of a material softer or more resilient than the metal of the cables, but harder or less resilient than the plastic insulation of the cable, may be provided. The connector may be used to make tapping connections to a cable, or a double connector may interconnect the ends of two tape cables.
