Abstract

1427787 Electric connectors ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 15 Aug 1974 [17 Sept 1973] 43577/73 Heading H2E A bolt-type cable connector comprises two contact members 12, 17 with opposed contact surfaces between which the cable lies in use, a screw-threaded bolt 13 extending through the members, a resilient means slidable on the bolt and engaging one of the members, and an indication means which indicates the loading on the resilient means when the bolt is tightened to clamp the cable. The Figure shows the stranded outer conductor 11 of a coaxial cable connected to an aluminium strip 12 by means of a connector comprising a nut 21 and bolt 13, washers 15, 22, a disc spring 16, a cylindrical ring 18 and rectangular (as viewed along the bolt) flanged 19 contact member 17 and wedge-shaped insert 20. The nut and bolt are tightened to a predetermined torsion when the spring is compressed to the depth of the ring-i.e when the latter is trapped between the washer 15 and member 17. Two connectors, with a contact of one connected to a contact of the other may be used to connect two cables. The insert 20 may have a roughened surface.
