Abstract

C. engine fuel proportioning system comprises a proportioning valve 16, Fig. 1, connected to a constant pressure fuel supply and a delivery outlet for connection to inlet manifold injection apparatus, an adjustable throttle valve 6 connected between a return outlet 18 and a return conduit 7 to the supply, controlling the throttle valve and thereby the fuel pressure in the proportioning valve which comprises a spring- loaded pressure responsive valve 22 controlling the fuel delivery and means 19 preventing instantaneous pressure equalization in the valve on opening of the delivery outlet. In operation the combustion air-flow moves disc 11 and thereby loads diaphragm 6A upwardly so that as the air flow increases the fuel pressure in valve 6 is overcome and less fuel is returned to the fuel pump thereby increasing the fuel supply proportionally. Valve disc 22 is unseated by the fuel pressure in chamber 21 to allow fuel passage to nozzle 4 and equalization of the pressure on opposite sides of the valve disc which then permits the disc to be reseated by spring 32. The opening rate thus caused is dependent on the pressure in valve 6 and the flow of combustion air through manifold 9. A needle valve 20, Fig. 2 ensures that throttle valve 6 is unaffected by short term variations in pressure in chamber 21. Each separate branch 5 is connected to a separate pressure responsive valve 16, all of the valves being connected to the single throttle valve 6.
