Coke ovens-In a regenerative system for coke ovens, each regenerated tunnel is divided by transverse partitions into a number of chambers 2, 3, some of which are connected to a flue 5 on one side of the tunnel, and the remainder to a flue 6 on the other side. When rich gas is used for heating the ovens, air is supplied through the flues 6 to the whole of the chambers. When using poor gas, air is heated in the chambers 2, and gas in the chambers 3. The flues 5, 6 may be partly or wholly filled with brickwork to serve as auxiliary regenerators, and may be supplied with air from a flue running the length of the battery outside the setting.
