Abstract

1,140,523. Securing capsules on containers. THOMAS HUNTER Ltd., (Establecimiento Mecanico de Precision " Cena "). 21 Jan., 1966 [5 Feb., 1965], No. 5198/65. Heading B8T. A sealing head for securing a capsule 3 to a container comprises a ring of indenting arms 2 which are moved radially inwards by an outer ring of fingers 8 which reciprocate vertically with respect to the sealing head. The indenting arms 2 each have a projection 13 which deforms a bead 4 on the capsule 3 when the arms move inwards and force the bead under the lip 15 of the container. In one embodiment, further arms 6 are positioned between the indenting arms 2, to restrain the cap skirt from bulging outwards as it is indented. The arms 2, 6 are moved radially inwards together by the outer fingers 8 as the fingers 8 are lowered. In an alternative embodiment, the indenting arms and the restraining arms are integral, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), the inner faces (14) of the arms adjacent the projections 13 preventing the skirt bulging outwards. The restraining arms may also serve to press the skirt of the capsule inwards slightly.
