Abstract

A martensitic steel has the following percentage composition:-Ni 10-20 ) Si 1.75-4) 12-23 in total Cr 0-5 C not more than 0.03 Ti and/or Al 0-1 Mn 0-0.75 Co 0-2 ) Mo 0-2 ) V 0-2 ) W 0-2 ) Be 0-0.2) not more than 2 in total Nb 0-2 ) Ta 0-2 ) Cu 0-2 ) Fe the balance. The sheet may be solution heated to 760-870 DEG C., cooled (if necessary to -75 DEG C) and aged at 370-480 DEG C. Cold working may be applied after cooling to complete the martensitic transformation.
