Abstract

A steel which is martensitic, even after being welded, comprises:- .Ni.3-6.5%.Ni + Cr \sO 21.5%2 .Cr.12-16.5%. .Mo.0-1.5%.Cr+Mo \sO 16.5% .C.up to 0.12%.C + N \sO 0.13% .N.up to 0.1%. .Si.0-1%. .Mn.0-1%. .Al.0-0.15%. the balance, apart from impurities (S, P, H, O) and residual small amounts of cleansing and deoxidizing elements, being iron. The alloy must contain not more than 5% each of austenite and delta ferrite. The steel may be homogenized at 1150 DEG C.-1260 DEG C. hot worked at 1205 DEG C.-815 DEG C., optionally cold worked and/or refrigerated and normalized at 790 DEG -870 DEG C.
