Abstract
A nitride bearing ductile steel consists of:- .C.0.04 -0.25%, .Si.0.01 -0.50%, .Mn.up to 1.00%, .P.less than 0.035%, .S." " 0.035%, .precipitated AlN.0.03 -0.12%, .metallic Al (in solution).0.003-0.36%, .with or without. .one or more of. .Ni, Cr, Mo, V, Cu.trace to 1% each, .and/or B.trace to 0.1%, ..the balance being iron The steel may be heated to between the A3 transformation point and 1050 DEG C., e.g. 930 DEG C., and rapidly cooled, e.g. in air, oil or water, and then tempered at between 150 DEG C. and the A1 transformation temperature, e.g. 650 DEG C.
