Abstract
An alloy steel consists of: .C.up to 0.03% .Cr.8.0-16.0% .Ni.2.0-9.0% .Mo.1.0-5.0% .Ti.0.2-0.7% .Co.8.0-15.0% the balance, apart from impurities and incidental elements, being iron. The alloy is heated to 850 DEG C., air cooled and hardened at 420-550 DEG C. Impurities disclosed are: .Si.up to 0.1% .Mn.up to 0.2% .S.up to 0.01% .P.up to 0.01% and incidental elements are: .Al.up to 0.15% .Nb.up to 0.2% .V.up to 0.15% .B.up to 0.02% .Zr.up to 0.02% The ingots are soaked at 1230 DEG C. and hot worked in the range 1200-1000 DEG C., after reheating to 1100 DEG C. they are worked in the range 1000-850 DEG C. The steel may require refrigeration to -80 DEG C. after the 850 DEG C. anneal prior to the 420-550 DEG C. hardening.
