Abstract
1,031,511. Photocopying. IMAGIC PROCESS Ltd. Jan. 15, 1963 [Jan. 25,1962], No. 2870/62. Heading G2C. In a device for developing an ink-retaining latent image by applying powdered ink to the surface of an image-bearing sheet, the device comprising guides for the sheet and a driven transfer member carrying powdered ink so that their paths run closely adjacent in an inking region, a doctor fitted in the inking region acts directly on the inkcarrying surface of the transfer member to loosen the ink and facilitate its delivery to and retention by the latent image. As shown in Fig. 1, a roller 1 within a powder reservoir 3 produces a heap of powder ink due to the doctor blade action of the reservoir wall and the sheet 7 bearing the latent image passes over this heap to develop the image. Alternatively the heap of powder may be formed by a stationary doctor engaging an endless belt which also passes about a rotatable apertured cylindrical powder supply container. Fig. 2, not shown. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), a tape wound between rollers is employed, the tape being loaded with powder from a hopper. To ensure more thorough development of the image, the powder carrying member may be oscillated as well as intermittently fed forward. Such an arrangement is shown in Fig. 4 employing doctor wires 39 where the powder carrying member is a preloaded tape 34 but it may also be an endless belt loaded by passage around a perforated drum containing the powder (Fig. 5, not shown).
