Abstract

1,121,218. Making reproductions. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 2 June, 1966 [5 June, 1965], No. 24702/66. Heading B6C. Reproductions are made by forming an oil latent image of an original on a support, developing this image with a powdery material which only becomes adhesive when heated to 70 to 170‹ C. and remains adhesive when subsequently allowed to cool, transferring the developed image by heating to an imagereceiving sheet, and powder developing and fixing this latter sheet. The oil latent image may be prepared by relief printing using an oily ink; typewriting using an oil-impregnated ribbon; applying a low-boiling oil to an original and exposing to infra-red heating so that the oil corresponding to the characters of the original evaporates on to a support placed on the original; inserting an oil-impregnated, paper between the original and the support and exposing to infra-red radiation; or utilizing heat-or pressure-sensitive capsules containing an oil. Examples on a sheet which is typed or written on of the thermo-adhesive powder developer include benzoic acid, sebacic acid, phthalic anhydride, cinnamic acid, maleic anhydride, benzotriazole, p-dimethylammobenzaldehyde, benzoin, dextrose acetanilide, vanillin, methylhydroquinone, 2,4-dehydroxybenzophenone and #-napthol which are preferably ground to 0À1 to 100 microns in diameter and may have infra-red ray absorbers and other high melting-point powders incorporated. The powder developer for the image-receiving sheet should preferably be capable of attaching the thermo-adhesive material transferred from the support in the adhesive state; the powder is thus attached only to the image portions if the transferred image is developed immediately after transfer. This powder may also be coated with surface active agents, e.g. succinic acid, alkyl ester sulphonates, alkylbenzene sulphonates, sorbitan alkyl easters, long-chain quaternary ammonium salts or polyoxyalkylene sorbitan alkyl esters. A number of reproductions can be produced from each intermediate sheet or support.
