Abstract

1385373 Developing apparatus RICOH KK 15 Feb 1972 [15 Feb 1971 16 July 1971] 6873/72 Heading G2X A developing device for use with powder developing agent comprises a vessel 7 for the powdered developer, a supply means 14 for metering the powder on to a photo-sensitive sheet in response to passage of the sheet beneath the vessel and conveying and pressing means 1, 6 for conveying the sheet away from the vessel 7 and pressing the powder into contact with the surface of the sheet to effect development. The device is of particular utility in developing diazo type sheets using a developer consisting of a powdered silica or glass beads moist with organic amine developing liquid. As shown a photo-sensitive sheet advanced on to plate 15 trips micro-switch 16 causing rotation of brush roller 14 to distribute developer on the sheet. The sheet is then advanced by belt 6 and compressed between the belt and the surface of cylinder 1. Heating means 18 may be provided within the cylinder. The discharged sheet is stripped from the cylinder by stripper plates 22 and passed between roller 19 and brush roller 20 which removes surplus developer and returns it to the vessel. A gilater 12 may be provided within the hopper. Brush roller 14 may be replaced by a slatted plate with an oscillating cover-plate which opens the slots to release developer from the vessel Fig. 2, (not shown). In a further embodiment Fig. 3, the opening 121a in the developer vessel 121 is sufficiently close to the photo-sensitive sheet supporting plate 106 for developer powder discharged from the opening to block the passage of further powder until a sheet is fed between the opening and the plate. A continuously rotating metering roller 227, Fig. 4, may be provided between the vessel and the sheet supporting plate 206. When no sheet is present beneath the vessel, accumulation of powder on the plate blocks the orifice 226a.
