Abstract

1,018,169. Liquid blast switches. SIEMANSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Dec. 31, 1963 [Feb. 18, 1963], No. 51463/63. Heading H2B. The movable contact rod 7 of a liquidimmersed switch is withdrawn from a fixed contact 1 through a nozzle like bore 24, a tapered channel 25 opening at one end into the bore 24 and at the other into the space 19 behind the nozzle. As the rod 7 is withdrawn an arc is drawn through the narrow annular space between an insulating tip 8 on the rod and the nozzle, into the chamber 19 causing an increase in pressure in chamber 19 which creates a flow of liquid through channel 25 to assist in extinguishing the arc. The contact rod 7 is supported from and electrically connected to fixed guide rods 14 by rollers 13.
