Abstract

1,028,953. Liquid blast switches. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Jan. 19, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 2388/65. Addition to 1,018,169. Heading H2B. The liquid blast switch of the parent Specification is operated by a mechanism including a dashpot effective to slow down the moving contact rod during the period preceding the point at which the tip 8 leaves the bore 24. The moving contact rod 7 is formed with a piston 40 which, after the initial contact separating movement, enters a cyclinder 38 trapping liquid therein and thus being slowed down. As the tip 8 leaves the bore, the piston 40 enters a wide part 41 of the cylinder 38 where it is again free to accelerate under the constant actuating force upon the lever 17. At the end of its travel piston 40 enters a further narrow portion 42 of the cylinder 38 and is finally decelerated. The cylinder 38 is mounted upon a plug 36 screwed into the metal part 16 of the switch housing. Alternatively a fluid-operated driving means may be employed by which varying pressures are applied according to the position of the contact rod.
