Abstract

1415707 Gas blast switches SIEMENS AG 5 Nov 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 51334/73 Heading H1N In a high voltage gas blast switch of the puffer type an auxiliary compression controlling piston 12 is provided within the gas blast cylinder 9 and arranged to be connected during different parts of the stroke to either the blast cylinder only or the blast piston only by a spring controlled rod 13. On circuit breaking the switch contact 6 slides in the direction of arrow 8 and carries the blast cylinder 9 with it so that gas is compressed between the blast cylinder and the relatively fixed blast piston 10 in combination with the auxiliary piston 12, the auxiliary piston 12 being fixed at this time to the blast piston 10 by rod 13 engaging aperture 14 in the blast piston. When end wall 21 of the blast cylinder reaches and operates plunger 20 however the rod 13 is moved under the influence of leaf spring 17 to engage aperture 15 in the blast cylinder and to simultaneously disengage from the blast piston, so that the auxiliary piston then is locked to the blast cylinder and moves with it to effectively reduce the gas compressing piston area. On circuit closing the auxiliary piston is disengaged again from the blast cylinder and engaged again with the blast piston. The gas employed is SF 6 .
