Abstract

829,397. Oil-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. June 3, 1958 [June 6, 1957], No. 17661/58. Class 38 (5). An extinguishing chamber comprises an insulating cylinder 1 and a contact 9 which traverses a nozzle 11 in an insulating sleeve 10 and an opening 8 in a guiding member 6 in an oil reservoir 5. The latter communicates with an annular space 15 through an opening 18, whilst space 15 communicates with a space 17 through openings 16 between locating parts 12 on the sleeve 10. On opening, arc gases and oil initially pass through openings 16 into space 15 so compressing the gas above the oil, but when the contact 9 clears the nozzle 11, a blast of arcextinguishing gas passes direct into the sleeve and oil reservoir. Thereafter oil and gases are forced from the reservoir and space 15 into the space 17 and through the opening 18, stability being attained when the gas pressure in space 15 equals the pressure of the oil column in space 13.
