Abstract

812,094. Liquid-blast switches; actuation of switches. CIRILLI, B. P. J., and CIRILLI, M. J. A. Feb. 21, 1957 (Feb. 24, 1956], No. 5933/57. Class 38 (5). In a switch, liquid, e.g. oil, is supplied from an external source of liquid under pressure through a pipe 11 to a nozzle 17, so that the liquid jet from the nozzle impinges against a cup-shaped member 9 secured to a movable contact 4 which is opened by the jet. The movable contact may be closed by a liquid jet issuing from a further nozzle 24 and impinging on a further cup-shaped member 8 also secured to the movable contact 4. The pipe 11 sup plies a space 16 from which extend pipes 11a, 11b, Fig. 2, which supply a series of angularly and axially spaced passages or nozzles extending across the path of the movable contact so that the arc drawn between the contacts is subjected to a series of transverse liquid blasts.
