Definitions
- the invention relates to the retransmission of digital signals received in a mixed way, by cable or by wireless transmission in a home environment. It applies mainly to digital terrestrial television and to a retransmission to mobile televisions.
- Terrestrial digital television signals are transmitted mainly via radio links in most countries. But some countries also use cable broadcasting networks and want to multiplex the channels from their cable network and those of the radio channels to increase the rate of penetration of mobile TV at home. For example, Belgium, 95% wired, is among those countries potentially interested in broadcasting in a mixed way for mobile TV.
- a retransmitter of the television channel previously connected to the roof antenna of the house is used. This retransmitter is installed in the house. Thus only the television channel, received by the roof antenna, will be amplified and transmitted at the same frequency for better indoor reception. This is an isofrequency retransmission.
- the TV channel frequency is not necessarily the same by cable or over the air. There are disturbances that are detrimental to the proper functioning of the wireless broadcasting network.
- FIG. 1 uses an isofrequency retransmitter locked on the frequency of the television channel to retransmit.
- This retransmitter is based on a double frequency transposition on the uplink as on the downlink, so as to emit the signal on the frequency of the tuner channel memorized.
- the frequency offset related to the double ascending and descending frequency change is self-compensating by addition and subtraction of the same frequency deviation value.
- the different selective bandpass filters that isolate the channel to be reissued have severe out-of-band rejection constraints that tolerate little frequency shifting.
- FIG. 3 shows the out-of-channel emission spectrum mask of a DVBJH standard repeater for a channel frequency bandwidth of 8 MHz.
- the RFin signal is transmitted by cable.
- a switch SW1 in the first position allows a direct connection between this terminal, a tuner element T, then a demodulator D and then a microprocessor P so as to determine the frequency of the transmission channel.
- To this channel of the received signal corresponds a transmission frequency stored in the memory M.
- the microprocessor therefore sends a control signal to the first local oscillator OL1 for transposition at this stored frequency.
- the switch SW1 switches to the second position and the signal is doubly transposed in uplink and downstream by the mixers M1 -M4 associated with the oscillators OL1 and OL2, filtered by different RF and IF filters, F1 -F5, and amplified by amplifiers A1, A2 with variable AGC gain control controlled by the processor.
- the signal transposed to the stored transmission frequency and corresponding to the input channel is transmitted on the output antenna.
- a safety switch SW2 controlled by the microprocessor makes it possible to interrupt the transmission when errors are detected.
- FIG. 2 By way of example and assuming a TCXO oscillator of 1 ppm of frequency drift and a frequency change of 100 MHz, an estimate of the maximum Doppler frequency deviation for a mobile TV signal emitted to the DVBJH standard and admissible by a terminal equipped with a last generation digital demodulator is represented in FIG. In this FIG. 2, it should be noted that for a transmission of the DVB-H type and as represented by the curve C1, from a value of the maximum frequency difference of 191 Hz, corresponding to a signal-to-signal ratio. noise of 22dB, the demodulator picks up and no longer works.
- EP 1744471 describes another isofrequency retransmission system and the associated method.
- This patent deals with isofrequency retransmission systems also called "gap filler" whose main function is to receive the signal from a main transmitter on a receiving antenna and then reissue this signal at the same frequency to the area to be covered by a transmission antenna.
- This patent includes a subtraction reissue technique which has the effect of canceling coupling echo from the transmitting antenna and ensuring the best signal retransmission conditions.
- this technique is an isofrequency retransmission technique, it makes it possible to correct the deformations linked to the coupling and not those related to a frequency shift comparable to a Doppler effect.
- the invention aims to overcome these disadvantages.
- the invention consists in a method for retransmitting at least one digital signal p comprising a cable reception step of the signal comprising signaling information (TPS) and a step of retransmitting this signal at a retransmission frequency by an antenna (AT).
- TPS signaling information
- AT antenna
- the method comprises a step of selecting the retransmission frequency according to the signaling information, a step of transposing the signal into the frequency of the selected retransmission signal, and a step of controlling and adjusting the frequency of the retransmission signal by depending on the frequency of the selected re-transmission signal
- the invention has the advantage of controlling the re-transmission frequency of the mobile TV channel of the retransmitter as a function of the incoming frequency of the same channel of a cable network.
- the TPS signaling information comprises, associated with the reception channel, a reception frequency and a retransmission frequency.
- the step of transposing the signal is done using local oscillators (OL1, OL2) and a switchable complementary local oscillator.
- the step of controlling and adjusting the frequency of the retransmission signal comprises a step of synchronization of the local oscillators by a voltage controlled oscillator VCXO.
- the invention also relates to a device for retransmitting a signal received in a channel comprising:
- a frequency conversion circuit for frequency transposing the signal of a received channel into a retransmission signal at a retransmission frequency using at least one local oscillator.
- an automatic frequency compensation device comprising a complementary local oscillator (OL3)
- SW3 selection means
- the means for automatically compensating the frequency of the re-transmitted signal comprise a reference local oscillator making it possible to synchronize the different local oscillators.
- the signal is received by cable and retransmitted to a retransmission antenna over the air.
- the means for controlling the frequency of the re-transmitted signal as a function of the determined and measured frequency of the re-transmitted signal comprise:
- a coupler for taking the re-transmitted signal; a comparison element (P) between the measured frequency and the determined frequency of the re-transmitted signal and a control element (VCXO) of the different local oscillators (OL1-OL3).
- FIG. 1 already presented in relation with the prior art illustrates an iso-frequency retransmitter of the prior art
- FIG. 2 is a diagram representing an estimate of the Doppler deviation in DVB-H mode
- FIG. 3 represents a mask of the DVB-H off-channel emission spectrum
- FIG. 4 illustrates a frequency retransmitter according to the invention. To simplify the description, the same references will be used in these last figures to designate elements fulfilling identical functions.
- the principle of the invention is therefore based on the re-transmission of a mobile television signal which will also take into account any offset in frequency with respect to the frequency of the transmission channel. This difference, comparable to the Doppler effect, will not change over time because it is a fixed mode reception.
- this system according to the invention is distinguished by the addition of a coupler C making it possible to take the output signal. to re-transmit for comparison with parameters from the incoming signal and an automatic frequency compensation device, to minimize the offset between the frequency of the transmitted signal and the allocated frequency.
- This automatic frequency compensation device is based on the switching of a complementary oscillator OL3 by a switch SW3 allowing the transposition in an offset frequency of the detected frequency deviation.
- a first switch SW1 with 2 positions makes it possible to direct the incoming RF signal either towards the frequency change circuit or towards the control circuit of the incoming RF signal of the cable network.
- SW3 and SW4 are all controlled by the microprocessor.
- the first step is to set switch SW1 on the RF signal control circuit and switch SW4 on the cable signal to determine the frequency of the channel received by the cable network.
- This control circuit comprises a cable T tuner covering the downlink cable is for example 108-862 MHz.
- This tuner is connected to a mobile TV demodulator D for example DVB-H in order to demodulate only DVB-H standard channels from 470 to 750 MHz and not the other channels to the DVB-C standard,
- the tuner will thus be tuned (swept in frequency) by the microprocessor P on all possible channels in this frequency band and the mobile television channels thus detected with their associated frequencies will be stored in memory M.
- the demodulator reproduces the signal, for example an MPEG2-TS data stream, the microprocessor of which will extract, for example, signaling signals TPS (Transmission Parameter Signaling), the frequency of the channel transmitted in the cable, also called “frequency of the cable channel”, and the frequency of the radio channel to be transmitted RF output of the retransmitter, also called “frequency of the radio channel”.
- TPS Transmission Parameter Signaling
- the frequency of the channel transmitted in the cable also called “frequency of the cable channel”
- the frequency of the radio channel to be transmitted RF output of the retransmitter also called “frequency of the radio channel”.
- the incoming signal is also analyzed in signal to noise ratio or bit error rate to control its quality.
- This control of the incoming signal is important not to emit a channel at the wrong frequency or with an insufficient signal to noise ratio. For example if the tuned frequency stored in memory is different from the frequency read in the TPS signal it means that there is a problem on the network or the control circuit. In this case, the retransmitter will be put on standby by opening the switch SW2. Likewise, if the signal-to-noise ratio or the bit error rate ratio is insufficient, the retransmitter will be paused in the same way.
- the switch SW1 is then positioned on its second position, towards the frequency change circuit.
- the microprocessor takes over the switch SW3 and the oscillators OL1 and OL3 to retransmit the incoming mobile television signal onto the frequency of the radio channel indicated in the TPS signal.
- the second step is dependent on the frequencies of the received cable channel and the transmitted radio channel. - If the frequency of the cable channel is already in the UHF frequency band (channels 21 to 69, frequencies 474 to 862 MHz), and the frequency of the cable channel is equal to the frequency of the radio channel, a self-compensation frequency offsets occur and the local oscillator OL1 is active for the last transposition. Oscillator OL3 is inactive.
- the switch SW3 is in the position OL1 so that the oscillator OL1 is connected to the mixer M4 to perform the last transposition.
- the microprocessor controls the frequency of the first oscillator OL1 for frequency up to 1220 MHz.
- the switch SW3 is switched to the position OL3 and the oscillator OL3 is connected to the mixer M4 to perform the last transposition.
- the microprocessor controls the frequency of the oscillator OL3 to go down in frequency, respecting the frequency of the radio transmission channel given by the parameters of the received signal (for example TPS).
- the microprocessor will control the oscillators OL1 and OL3 separately in the same way as before: the microprocessor controls the frequency of the first oscillator OL1 for frequency rise to 1220 MHz., The switch SW3 is switched to the position OL3 and the oscillator OL3 is connected to the mixer M4 to perform the last transposition. The microprocessor controls the frequency of the oscillator OL3 to go down in frequency, respecting the frequency of the channel radio transmission given by the parameters of the received signal (for example TPS).
- Switch SW4 will switch to the output signal via the coupler, switch SW1 being positioned to the frequency changing circuit.
- the output amplifier and the switch SW2 are configured by the microprocessor in the on mode. Then, in order to minimize the frequency error of the transmitted signal which must remain typically less than 100 Hz throughout the re-transmission frequency band, the microprocessor will then process the frequency error information CFO (Carrier Frequency Offset). ) given by the demodulator which is converted into analog data by a digital analog converter (CDA).
- CFO Carrier Frequency Offset
- the output voltage delivered is a control voltage of a reference oscillator VCXO of the system of local oscillators OL1, OL2 and OL3.
- the frequency of the oscillator VCXO is thus automatically and periodically controlled, as well as that of the various local oscillators to ensure a frequency of less than 100Hz for example.
- F1 bandwidth filter370 -862MHz;
- F2 RF filter SAW 1220MHz,
- F3 IF filter SAW 36MHz,
- F4 RF filter SAW 1220MHz,
- F5 filter bandwidth 470-862MHz.
- Local Oscillator OL1 1594-2078MHz, Local Oscillator OL2: 1 184MHz, Local Oscillator OL3 1694-2078MHz.
- This mobile TV retransmitter is based on the ETSI standard: "Technical Specifications for DVB-H Small Gap Fillers".
- the invention is applicable to any other mobile television standard that would be multiplexed to the cable network of the country concerned, for example to address the L band in the United States and Europe.
- An RF or Infra Red remote control system can advantageously be implemented in the system so that the user can choose his mobile TV program among the frequency multiplexes available on the cable network.
- the transmitter will perform the corresponding frequency change according to the information transmitted by the remote control system.
- the architecture of the retransmitter may vary according to the complexity and cost of the designer but the principle of management of frequency change circuits described in this patent application and known to those skilled in the art will remain the same.
