EL INVENTO SE PLANTEA EL PROBLEMA DE TRASMITIR UNA SEÑAL MULTIPLEX DE FRECUENCIA, QUE ABARCA UNA ANCHA BANDA DE FRECUENCIA, POR EJEMPLO, LA BANDA DE FRECUENCIAS DE UNA TELEVISION POR CABLE DE 60 A 440 MHZ, A TRAVES DE UN TRAMO DE TRANSMISION DE FIBRA OPTICA. SEGUN EL INVENTO, EN EL DISPOSITIVO EMISOR SE TRANSFORMA TODA LA BANDA DE FRECUENCIAS A TRANSMITIR, POR MODULACION DE AMPLITUDES DE BANDA LATERAL UNICA DE UNA PORTADORA DE ALTA FRECUENCIA (FO), EN UNA BANDA DE MAYOR FRECUANCIA, POR EJEMPLO, DE 840 A 1240 MHZ, QUE, REFERIDA A SU FRECUENCIA MAS BAJA, ES UN OCTAVO MENOS ANCHA. LOS PRODUCTOS DE INTERMODULACION DE SEGUNDO ORDEN QUE SE ORIGINAN NORMALMENTE DURANTE LA TRANSFORMACION EN UNA SEÑAL OPTICA, SE SITUAN CON ELLO EN UNA ZONA DE FRECUENCIAS NO OCUPADA. POR PARTE DEL RECEPTOR SE PRODUCE LA CORRESPONDIENTE DESMODULACION, BIEN POR RECUPERACION DEL SOPORTE TRANSMISOR, O BIEN UTILIZANDO UN SOPORTE ORIGINADO LOCALMENTE. TAMBIEN RESULTA VENTAJOSO QUE LA BANDA DE FRECUENCIAS A TRANSMITIR ESTRANSFORMADA EN VARIAS BANDAS PARCIALES EN LA BANDA DE MAYOR FRECUENCIA.
