Definitions
- the invention relates to a method and a device for the automated access control of passengers in airports by means of the boarding passes carried by the passengers.
- WO 01/82236 A1 discloses a method of performing access control that may be used to control access to a fair or exhibition site, amusement park or sporting event.
- an entrance ticket which is equipped with a data carrier, preferably a transponder, read from an access control system.
- the read data is compared with database entries.
- an access enable signal is generated which causes the release of an access lock.
- a boarding pass may only be used once.
- the invention set forth in the appended claims therefore proposes to automate the control of the boarding passes by means of special transit locks.
- Barcode readers scanners
- the read in from the boarding pass then data aligned with the database of an airport-wide accessible central database. If the data alignment is successful, the shut-off device of the through-lock is opened temporarily. Subsequently, the passage of the passenger is registered through the transit lock. After the passenger has passed the transit lock, an inhibit note is sent to the database and entered therein. If now a fake boarding pass is used and the real boarding pass is already registered a blocking note, the user of the fake boarding pass is rejected during the automated boarding pass control.
- the inventively provided automated boarding pass control can fulfill a number of other tasks.
- the data read out during boarding pass control can be further processed for statistical purposes. It is further provided to use the passage of the through-lock as a criterion for loading luggage. Namely, if a passenger whose passport card is not registered, despite successful data synchronization, the transit lock does not happen, can be prevented so that his luggage is invited and later unloaded again.
- the automated boarding pass control to specifically detain passengers in front of the gate without adequate security checks (APIS, Advanced Passenger Information System) and to forward them to special service personnel. If special security checks are required for a flight (eg to the USA), the airline may deposit a corresponding note in the barcode on the boarding pass. This note is recognized at the boarding pass check, and then the passenger is requested to go to a special service point.
- APIIS Advanced Passenger Information System
- FIG. 1 It is assumed that the terrain of an airport is divided into generally accessible traffic areas and secure check-in areas delimited therefrom. For passengers, access to the secure check-in area is only possible through special locks on which an automated boarding pass inspection takes place.
- FIG. 1 two boarding pass checkpoints are shown schematically. Each boarding pass control station includes a number of transit locks. In the example shown, three such locks are set up for fully automated operation. Another lock in each of the two boarding pass checkpoints is set up for the assistance of dedicated personnel.
- Each passage lock is equipped with a shut-off device, a "client” and a barcode reader. All control units are connected via a network to a central database, which can be reached via the network throughout the airport. Because automated board-check control is not allowed to create unreasonable waiting times at the transit locks, all components of the system are designed with high performance.
- One of the useful features of the transit locks is a scoreboard where passengers can see flight-related data.
- each boarding pass control station is equipped with display consoles, on which the data relevant for the handling process are displayed.
- the database relies on a powerful server.
- data entry stations are connected via the network, via which all relevant flight data are entered into the database. For the evaluation of the data, special evaluation terminals can access the database via the network.
- step 10 a passenger arrives with his boarding pass at a passage lock.
- step 12 the passenger is prompted to present his boarding pass to the .barcode reader at the transit lock.
- step 14 the boarding pass is read.
- step 16 it is checked whether the boarding pass is readable. If it is not readable, the process is repeated.
- step 18 it is checked whether more than two read attempts have been made. If this is the case, then Step 20 The passenger is asked to go to a specific service point.
- step 22 it is checked whether the boarding pass is valid. If the boarding pass is invalid, the request is made as in step 20.
- step 26 the shut-off device of the through-lock is opened. Then, in step 28, the passenger will be presented with the data relevant to his flight on the through-lock display panel.
- step 30 it is checked whether the passenger has passed through the through-lock. If this is not the case, it is checked in step 32 whether a waiting period of a few seconds has elapsed. If this is the case, it is assumed that the passenger has not passed the passage lock, and in step 34, the shut-off valve is closed again. Otherwise, at step 36, an inhibit note is issued to the boarding pass and stored in the database. At the same time, a message such as "Good Flight" can be displayed on the transit gate scoreboard.

Description
- Flugnummer
- Flugtag
- Check-in sequence number.
