A printing unit of a rotary printing press with a transfer cylinder (02; 07) and a forme cylinder (03; 08) arranged so as to co-operate with the said transfer cylinder as a pair of cylinders (01; 06), the bodies of which have a width which corresponds to approximately four or six horizontal or vertical newspaper pages, wherein the transfer cylinder (02; 07) has two channels (14; 16; 17; 18) arranged offset in the peripheral direction to receive one or more blankets (09) and the forme cylinder (03; 08) has, in the peripheral direction, two channels (12; 13) arranged one behind the other, characterized in that at least in a portion situated longitudinally with respect to the transfer cylinder (02; 07) the channels (14; 16; 17; 18) are arranged one behind the other in the peripheral direction of the transfer cylinder (02; 07), and at least two blankets (09) are arranged one behind the other in the peripheral direction on the periphery of the transfer cylinder (02; 07), the blankets (09) are formed with a plurality of layers in each case, comprising a support plate (21) and a layer (22) joined to the support plate (21), and the channels (12; 13; 14; 16) of the forme cylinder and the transfer cylinder (02; 03; 07; 08) extend almost over the entire length of the bodies.
  2. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the transfer cylinder (02; 07) has at least two blankets (09) adjacent to each other in the axial direction.
  3. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the transfer cylinder (02; 07) has two channels (14; 16; 17; 18) offset in the peripheral direction by 180°.
  4. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the blankets (09) extend in the longitudinal direction approximately over the entire length of the body of the transfer cylinder (02; 07).
  5. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the body of the transfer cylinder (02; 07) has a circumference which corresponds to at least two horizontal or vertical newspaper pages.
  6. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the channel (14; 16; 17; 18) of the transfer cylinder (02; 07) in the region of the generated face has a gap (29) with a width (b29) in the peripheral direction which is larger than twice the thickness of one of the ends (23; 24) of the blanket (09) and which is in the range of between 1 mm and 5 mm, in particular smaller than or equal to 3 mm.
  7. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the ratio of the circumference of the transfer cylinder (02; 07) to the forme cylinder (03; 08) is an integral number.
  8. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one of the channels (14; 16; 17; 18) on the transfer cylinder (02; 07) rolls over the periphery of forme cylinder (03; 08) in the region of a channel (12; 13).
  9. A printing unit according to one of Claims 1 [sic], characterized in that the channels (12; 13; 14; 16; 17; 18) of the respective cylinder (02; 03; 07; 08) are arranged uniformly spaced in the peripheral direction.
  10. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that each channel (14; 16; 17; 18) of the transfer cylinder (02; 07) has at least one holding device (26) for the blanket (09) in each case.
  11. A printing unit according to Claim 7, characterized in that the transfer cylinder (02; 07) and the forme cylinder (03; 08) have the same circumference.
  12. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the support plate (21) is made substantially dimensionally stable.
  13. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the support plate (21) is made of metal.
  14. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the support plate (21) is made of plastics material.
  15. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the layer (22) is constructed in the form of a resilient layer (22).
  16. A printing unit according to Claim 1 or 8, characterized in that one channel (12; 13) of the forme cylinder (03; 08) has a holding device (33) for printing formes (11).
  17. A printing unit according to Claim 16, characterized in that the holding device (33) is constructed in the form of a holding apparatus (33) driven by way of spring force.
  18. A printing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that one channel (12; 13) of the forme cylinder (03; 08) is constructed so as to be inclined by 30° to 60° with respect to the tangent of the generated face.
  19. A printing unit according to Claim 18, [characterized in] that the inclination amounts to approximately 45°.
  20. A printing unit according to Claim 8 or 16, characterized in that in the region of the generated face the channel (12; 13) of the forme cylinder (03; 08) has a width (b12) in the peripheral direction which is larger than twice the thickness of the printing forme (11) and is in the range of between 1 mm and 5 mm, in particular smaller than or equal to 3 mm.
  21. A printing unit according to Claim 1 or 9, characterized in that the two channels (12; 13; 14; 16; 17; 18) of the forme cylinder (03; 08) are arranged offset by approximately 180° with respect to each other in the peripheral direction.
