Definitions
- the invention relates to a recording material for the Ink jet printing process (ink jet process).
- the ink jet process is one of the electronic ones Printing process. Here it is possible to add pictures, texts and Compose graphics on the computer and as Print out the screen hardcopy directly.
- droplets of a recording liquid are applied to the surface of the carrier material using various techniques.
- a permanent stream of droplets is driven out of the nozzle under high pressure.
- the drops that are not required for image formation are fed back into the ink reservoir by various principles.
- the ink jet recording process is used to manufacture Color graphics, full color copies and also for text prints used, so it covers a very wide field of application.
- the recording material is different Requirements such as print gloss, color gradients (bleed), Color density, drying behavior, agitation (mottle), Clapping and shine.
- the receiving material generally consists of a Carrier material, an ink receiving layer and optionally further auxiliary layers.
- JP 01-009776 and JP 01-075281 describe one Ink receiving layer with good contrast, good light and Water resistance consisting of a copolymer and a Binder / pigment mixture exists.
- the copolymer settles together from a dimethyldiallylammonium chloride and a Acrylamide.
- a pigment content Loss of gloss is not limited.
- EP 0 627 324 describes a recording material for the Inkjet printing process, in which in the receiving layer Terpolymer of a quaternary ammonium compound used becomes.
- Terpolymer of a quaternary ammonium compound used becomes.
- an epoxy or a triazine is considered Crosslinking agent added. This will cause the Color dots and an unevenness of color and Density prevented.
- the disadvantage is an extension of the Drying time and poorer color absorption. By Polymerizing the quaternary ammonium compound into the Terpolymer reduces the ability to control the Optimization of color fixation.
- the object of the invention is to provide a recording material for to provide the ink jet printing process that is due to high color density, high gloss, good Drying properties, high color brilliance and low Color gradients with low weight of the Distinguished reception layer.
- a recording material which a support and an ink-receiving layer disposed thereon contains an uncrosslinked copolymer consisting of a quaternary ammonium compound and vinyl pyrrolidone, one Polyvinyl alcohol and a Contains aminomethacrylate copolymer.
- PVP Polyvinylpyrrolidone
- the carrier material varies in gloss values depending on Manufacturing may differ, in some cases necessary to add pigments to the ink-receiving layer, the one Allow adjustment of the gloss.
- the shine pigments such as calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, clay, Silicon dioxide, bentonite, aluminum oxide or boehmite added become.
- the amount of pigments in the ink-receiving layer can be 0 and 5% by weight, based on the dried layer be.
- the proportion by weight of the copolymer in the ink-receiving layer can be 5 to 80% by weight and, in a more preferred form, 15 to 50% by weight.
- the proportion of the hydroxy-functional polymer containing amino groups is preferably 5 to 75% by weight and in a more preferred embodiment 15 to 50% by weight.
- the proportion of the polyvinyl alcohol can be 5 to 80% by weight and, according to an even more preferred embodiment, 30 to 60% by weight.
- the coating weight of the dried receiving layer may be 2 to 15 g / m 2 and preferably 4 to 10 g / m 2, respectively.
- the aqueous coating composition can vary in the following amounts by weight: % By weight Vinyl pyrrolidone / methacrylamidopropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride copolymer 2.2 - 60.0 Aminomethacrylate 2.2 - 57.0 Polyvinyl alcohol 3.0 - 80.0 Auxiliaries 0.0 - 20.0 water Rest up to 100.0
- Ink receiving layer can be used with all common and dosing processes, such as roller application, engraving or nipping processes and air brushes or roller doctor dosage applied become.
- an intermediate layer is additionally applied between the carrier material and the receiving layer.
- the intermediate layer preferably contains polyvinyl alcohol; but compounds such as polyvinylpyrrolidone or polyvinyl acetate or mixtures thereof are also suitable.
- This intermediate layer achieves a high print gloss, since the receiving layer on papers without synthetic resin coating is prevented from sinking. Since the surface of paper always has a certain porosity, parts of the coatings are absorbed by the paper.
- the print gloss is visible on the printed paper, especially in dark areas and should be uniform over the entire area. High print gloss manifests itself in a smooth, shiny layer.
- this intermediate layer improves the adhesion of the receiving layer to the carrier material, preventing the receiving layer from being pushed open in the printer.
- the application weight of the dried intermediate layer can be 0.1 to 4.0 g / m 2 , preferably 0.5 to 2.0 g / m 2 .
- Suitable carrier materials are preferably papers which are coated on both sides with synthetic resin and so-called cast-coated papers. As particularly important has a very smooth, even surface proven.
- the surface roughness (Ra) according to DIN 4768 may a value of 0.8 ⁇ m with a measuring distance of 5mm not exceed.
- the papers coated on both sides with synthetic resin have a basis weight of 50 to 250 g / m 2 .
- Polyolefins or polyester, for example, are used as the synthetic resin.
- the application quantity of the synthetic resin coating is at least 5 g / m 2 .
- Pigments, dyes and other auxiliaries can also be contained in this coating.
- Cast-coated paper has also proven to be particularly suitable. These papers are coated in the paper machine with a thin coating of binder and pigment and pressed under pressure against a hot high-gloss drum. This gives papers with a good, glossy surface that do not show the disadvantages of highly calendered papers. Compared to synthetic resin coated papers, this has the advantage of very low drying times.
- the basis weight for this paper is between 50 g / m 2 and 270 g / m 2 .
- the gloss of the paper with an intermediate layer measured at 60 °, must not be less than 80%, since the gloss of the base paper, due to the low application weight of the ink-receiving layer, has a strong effect on the finished recording material.
- the print gloss must be at least 65% for papers without an intermediate layer and at least 75% with an intermediate layer.
- An uncoated material is also suitable as a carrier material or coated base paper.

- polyvinylpyrrolidone (Luviskol® K90) with an application weight of 1.7 g / m 2 was chosen as the intermediate layer.
- the recording material was used with a commercially available Ink-jet color printers from Hewlett Packard, Novajet, and the a test pattern is printed on the corresponding inks.
- This Test image was checked for color density, bleeding, mottle, Color fixation and clapping checked. The results of this Tests are summarized in Tables 3 and 4.
- the color essence was measured using an X-Rite Desitometer Type 428 measured in the colors cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
- the print image was checked after 24 Hours of storage at 23 ° C rubbed with a white cloth.
- the transfer of the ink onto the rag was evaluated for the colors cyan, magenta and yellow.
- the transfer of black was rated separately (+ no transfer, - transfer).
- the printed image was after 5 minutes and after 15 minutes covered with a PTS base paper and loaded with a 10 kg weight for 24 hours. Subsequently became the clapping of the ink from the ink receiving layer on the PTS paper visually with the grades 1 to 6 (no Clapping to very heavy clapping).
- the gloss was measured using a Dr. Lange GmbH according to DIN 67530, measured at an angle of 60 °. The measurement was carried out on the unprinted receiving material.
