Definitions
- the invention relates to a packaging container made of a one-piece blank of essentially rigid, sheet-like material, in particular cardboard or cardboard, with a container body which consists of side walls connected to one another on longitudinal edges by means of longitudinal edge strips lying one on top of the other, which are connected to a common container bottom at edge edges of the base, the the blank parts forming the container bottom are in the central region of the blank.
- Packaging containers of this basic construction are known in different embodiments, for example as a folding box, the container base of which is formed either by a closure with insertion tabs or by closure flaps glued together.
- folding boxes can be used for very wide areas of application, they cannot be used as sealed, liquid-coated containers on the inside, for example.
- Stand-up pouches consisting of plastic-metal composite foils are known for this purpose, which are folded to form a container bottom in such a way that they only touch with their coated inside and can therefore be sealed tightly by an edge seal.
- the stability of these stand-up pouches is low due to the flexibility of the composite foils used.
- the container base which is square in plan and which also forms the base for the packaging container, is designed as a container closure, preferably as a conventional folding box plug-in closure.
- the stability of this known packaging container is essentially determined by the strength of the closure forming the container base.
- the stiffness of the upwardly tapering container body is very high and would allow the use of relatively thin material, the construction of the closure on the container base requires a certain minimum thickness and rigidity of the material used.
- this known packaging container can only be used in the manner of a folding box, i.e. not as a tightly welded packaging container for liquids or free-flowing goods.
- a known packaging container of the type mentioned at the beginning (BE-A-534 852) has a container base with a narrow, elongated, hexagonal layout and two relatively wide, opposite side walls. Its container base has an overhead folding edge which extends over the entire length of the container base and from which two base surfaces fall like a roof to the edge of the base edge. Such a container bottom is of little stability. If the packaging container is made of relatively thin material, which is generally sought for reasons of material savings, then there is Danger of the roof-shaped container bottom pushing down. The two bottom edge edges are then pushed outwards, especially since they do not experience any stiffening due to the relatively large side surfaces of the packaging container.
- Another known packaging container (US-A-3 317 118, Fig. 6), which consists of a one-piece blank, has at both ends of a square container bottom in plan, each consisting of four bottom triangles.
- two floor triangles which are separated from each other by a common folding edge, rise from a diagonal folding edge lying in the base area to two diametrically opposite longitudinal edges.
- the folding edge which separates the two adjacent floor triangles, is required in this known packaging container in order to stack and transport the container lying flat in the finished, glued state. When erected, this folded edge weakens the floor structure.
- the object of the invention is therefore to design a packaging container of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it can be used for very different applications, in particular as a container for liquids or free-flowing material, with a simple structure and simple processing options.
- This packaging container is intended to combine the advantageous properties of a folding box with those of a stand-up pouch without having their respective design-related disadvantages.
- the packaging container should also be in the bottom area Use of relatively thin material have high rigidity.
- the container floor is square in plan and consists of two floor triangles, which rise from a diagonal folding edge lying in the floor base to two diametrically opposed longitudinal edges and are connected to the bottom edge edges via an intermediate triangle, each connected to the Bears against the inside of a side wall, and that a plastic bag, preferably made of a film tube section, is received in the interior of the container.
- the bottom structure according to the invention which consists of the central part of the one-piece blank, which has no incisions, creates a container base which is inherently very rigid and which therefore also gives the container body and thus the entire packaging container increased rigidity. Therefore comparatively thin material can be used.
- This rigidity of the container base is also sufficient to absorb the considerable pressure loads on the base which occur when using a plastic inner bag (i.e. as a cardboard-supported soft packaging) due to the high liquid internal pressure.
- This particular stiffness of the container bottom is given on the one hand by the fact that it consists of triangles which are foldably connected to one another, which are arranged spatially and are not weakened by fold lines, and on the other hand by the fact that the longitudinal edge strips of the side walls, in particular also in the bottom area lie on one another and are connected to one another, and preferably also with edge strips adjoining the intermediate triangles, as is provided in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the inventive concept.
- a major advantage of the packaging container according to the invention is due to the fact that only the inside of the packaging material touches at all connection points, which is a flat contact of edge strips. In this way it is possible to provide the blank with a one-sided, heat-sealable coating which enables a liquid-tight seal in the region of the edge strips lying one on top of the other.
- the liquid packaging thus created has a high level of dimensional stability and good stamina, so that such liquid packagings can be designed as much larger packaging units than is the case with foil stand-up pouches.
- the container body While maintaining the basic structure of the container bottom, other forms of the container body, for example cuboid with a rectangular, square, diamond-shaped or other square base, can be used, the upper container closure being designed as a conventional plug-in closure or as a seal consisting of two triangles.
- the packaging container according to the invention is particularly suitable as a pouring container for liquids or bulk goods; the removal can be done by a special closure or by cutting an upper corner of the container.
- the packaging container can be used as a tube for pasty filling material, which can be pressed out through this closure or the cut corner.
- An inner bag made of plastic film is inserted into the packaging container, which consists of cardboard only, for example made of film tube sections.
- the packaging container shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 consists of a one-piece blank (FIG. 5) made of cardboard, cardboard or another, essentially rigid, sheet-like material.
- the container body 1 is formed by a plurality of side walls 2, which on the longitudinal edges 3 and 4 are connected. In the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 4, the container body 1 tapers upwards to a narrow container closure 5.
- a square container base 6 is formed, which forms the base for the packaging container 1 and from whose four bottom edge edges 7 the side walls 2 rise.
- the container base 6 consists of two base triangles 8. These are connected to each other at a diagonal folding edge 9 lying in the base surface and rise from there to the two diametrically opposite longitudinal edges 4.
- Each floor triangle 8 is connected to the two associated floor edge 7 via two foldable intermediate triangles 10, each of which abuts the inside of a side wall 2.
- the respectively adjacent side walls 2 are connected to one another on longitudinal edge strips 11 lying one on top of the other, for example by gluing or sealing, whereby ultrasonic or high-frequency heat sealing methods can be used in a conventional manner.
- the intermediate triangles 10 are also foldably connected to an edge strip 12 on their outer edge. As can be seen from the enlarged sectional view in FIG. 4, these two edge strips 12 lie on top of one another and between the longitudinal edge strips 11, with which they are connected in the manner already described.
- the container bottom 6 is formed from the central region of the blank.
- the packaging container shown as an exemplary embodiment in FIGS. 1 to 4 contains an inner bag (not shown) made of plastic film and can, for example, absorb powder or liquid such as liquid detergent or motor oil and can be emptied after being cut off.
- an inner bag made of plastic film and can, for example, absorb powder or liquid such as liquid detergent or motor oil and can be emptied after being cut off.
- the two edge strips 12 of adjacent intermediate triangles 10 and the subsequent longitudinal edge strips 11 on each of the two cut sides form a continuous cut edge strip, which is only interrupted by folded edges, and which at the upper end of the container, i.e. at the two cut ends, go directly into the upper edge strip 13.
- the packaging container according to FIG. 6 differs from the previously described, upwardly tapering packaging container in that it is cuboid, i.e. the longitudinal edges 3 and 4 are perpendicular and parallel to each other.
- the container bottom 6 is constructed in the manner already described.
- the packaging container is partially broken open in FIG. 6 and is spatially isometrically represented.
- the individual cut parts are identified by the same reference numerals as in FIGS. 1 to 5.
- the longitudinal edges 3 and 4 run to the corners of a square upper container end 14, which consists of two triangular closure flaps 15 connected to the side walls 2, which are connected to one another along a closure diagonal 16.
- This closure diagonal 16 connects the upper ends of the two longitudinal edges 4.
- the two closure flaps 15 on the closure diagonal 16 each have an edge strip 17 which are connected to one another.
- FIG. 7 From the representation of the blank (Fig. 7), which is used for the packaging container according to Fig. 6, it can be seen that the flaps 15 are foldably connected to the adjacent side walls 2 by a two-part gusset 18. Otherwise, the blank according to FIG. 7, in particular in the central area forming the container bottom 6, is designed in a similar manner to the blank according to FIG. 5, so that the same reference numerals are used.
- a conventional plug-in closure can also be used, so that the packaging container can be closed and opened at its upper container closure in the manner of a folding box.
- Fig. 8 shows, as a modification to Fig. 7, a blank for a packaging container with a rectangular floor plan.
- the blank parts are identified by the same reference numerals as in FIGS. 5 and 7.
