- this is achieved by a method for the separate determination of the concentration of molecules of the same molecular mass in gas mixtures, the gas mixture to be investigated being ionized for selective pretreatment under single-pulse conditions in at least substantial vacuum by means of primary ions, the primary ions used having an internal energy of slightly, preferably ⁇ 2 eV, above what is required to produce the products that represent the molecular species of interest, and in the respective focal system have a translational impact energy of such a magnitude that the kinetic effect on ionization is negligible compared to the influence of internal energy, preferably an impact energy below 10 eV, and the mass spectrometric analysis is carried out on the pretreated productions.
- the selective pretreatment of the gas mixture to be investigated is therefore carried out according to the invention directly by ionization with primary ions of certain internal energy (ionization potential) with limited translational impact energy, which means the disadvantages mentioned above GCMS systems can be avoided and the concentrations of molecules of the same molecular mass can be determined separately in a simple and quick manner.
