Definitions

  • the invention relates to a label printing device with a storage space for a supply or carrier tape with labels, a printer with a platen and a drive device for feeding the supply tape with the labels, which moves this supply belt between the printer and platen during feed, the Storage space for labels can be detachably and exchangeably used as a cassette in the printing device and this detachable cassette has the platen.
  • Such a printing device is known from US-A-3 817 177.
  • the feed device is permanently installed in the printing device. It has projections which engage on the underside of the supply belt in perforations in this belt in order to pull it in the feed direction. This makes difficulties when inserting a cassette, since the perforations have to be coupled to the projections of the feed device. In addition, it must be feared that if the supply or carrier tape for the labels cannot be ruled out, the feed projections or cams tear the perforations on the carrier tape, so that a precise feed can then no longer take place.
  • the feed device is part of the detachable cassette, that parallel barbed belts are provided for feeding the storage belt provided with lateral transport perforations, and that the storage belt can be fixed on the lower run and on the upper run of the barbed belts for its transport and during the transition from the one to the other runs around the platen and that a curved guide surface is provided at the transition from the lower run to the platen, which at the same time, as a tensioning element for the supply belt, resiliently presses it outwards.
  • the cassette can be exchanged quickly and easily, with no need to pay attention to a precise coupling between the feed device and the supply belt for the labels, so that operation is simple even for less qualified users.
  • the detection of the supply belt both on the upper and on the lower run of the barbed belts is also advantageous in a printing device which only transports in the forward direction, because on the one hand a secure feed to the platen, but on the other hand a tight continuation behind the platen is achieved without but that there is a risk that the supply belt will be damaged by the feed means.
  • the supply belt is not only securely guided to the platen by the tensioning element, but at the same time maintains the desired tension in it.
  • the feed device can be automatically coupled to the drive arranged in the printing device when the cassette is inserted.
  • the insertion of a cassette brings about the readiness for printing of the device.
  • the platen can be designed as a pressure bar with a preferably large mass, in particular made of metal, in order to form a good abutment during the printing process, despite the exchangeability of the cassette.
  • an elastic insert can be embedded in the pressure bar as a stop surface for the printer in order to dampen the printing noises during the printing process.
  • the elastic insert for the stop surface can be an elastomer with a hardness of about 60 ° to 95 ° Shore A, z. B. 90 ° Shore A.
  • the noise-absorbing liner can, for. B. a foam od. Like. Of a hardness of about 15 ° to 40 ° Shore A, z. B. from about 30 ° Shore A.
  • the lower run of the barbed belt or the barbed belts transports the storage belt to the printer and the upper run transports the free end of the storage belt. This means that the printed labels can be easily removed from the easily accessible top of the device.
  • the resilient tensioning element can be pivoted against the force of a tensioning spring on the axis of the deflection wheels of the barbed tapes near the printer. This gives this axis of the deflection wheels of the barbed belts an additional function.
  • a coupling gear can be arranged as a coupling element, which engages with a counter gear mounted in the printing device when the cassette is inserted into the printing device of the feed drive.
  • Supply tape rolls with labels, in particular labels adhering to such a supply tape are commercially available, so that it is possible to replace several such supply tapes at short notice either with a cassette that can be removed from the printing device or, above all, to keep several such cassettes with different tapes available in order to have different tapes at short notice To be able to print labels with one and the same printing device.
  • cassettes with a detaching edge Due to the easy interchangeability, the user can insert a cassette with a detaching edge into his printing device for immediately usable labels, while he can use a cassette with a rounded deflecting edge for producing small series or initially still to be manufactured labels. It is therefore one of the advantages of the invention that differently designed cassettes can also be used for different purposes.
  • funnel-shaped guide grooves can be provided on both sides of the cassette, preferably at its entry, for gripping pivot pins and projecting pins on the opposite end of the side wall of the cassette for pivoting into counter-openings on the housing of the printing device.
  • the user can thus push the cassette in the direction of the grooves, in particular at an angle from above with these grooves over the corresponding pins of the pressure device and when the end of the groove is reached.
  • the cassette is removed in the opposite way.
  • the deflection wheels for the spiked belts arranged coaxially to the clutch gearwheel can be larger than the other deflection wheels of the feed drive in order to also provide a sufficiently wide deflection of the supply belt in the area of the platen.
  • a label printing device designated as a whole by 1 has a storage space 2 for a supply or carrier tape 3 with labels 4 releasably adhering thereto, furthermore a printer 5 indirectly belonging to the invention with a platen 6 and a feed device 8 having a drive 7 for the supply tape 3, which moves this supply belt 3 between the printer 5 and the platen 6 during feed.
  • the printer 5 has a type wheel 9 b which can be driven by a stepping motor 9 a and which is rotated into the printing position with the letters or other characters 9 c to be printed in each case.
  • a print hammer 10 which can be actuated by an electromagnet 9, engages and pushes the partially elastic type wheel 9 b against the platen 6, whereby a label 4 located between them is printed.
  • the printer 5 is adjustable back and forth on guides 9 d.
  • the storage space 2 for labels 4 with the feed device 8 can be used as a cassette 11 or the like.
  • Compact and separate plate can be detachably and exchangeably inserted in the printing device 1 and this detachable cassette 11 also has the platen 6. This makes it possible to keep several cassettes 11 in stock either for a larger supply of labels 4 or especially for stocks of labels of different dimensions or labels made of different materials.
  • the feed device 8 can simultaneously be coupled automatically in a manner to be described to the drive arranged in the printing device 1.
  • Such a separate feed device 8 for the carrier tape 3 results in a precise feed and the possibility of using any printer, in particular the advantageous type wheel printer, which does not have to provide the feed itself, as for example printing rollers.
  • parallel spiked strips 13 are provided for the advance of the supply belt provided with lateral transport perforations 12 and the supply belt 3 on the lower run 13 a and on the upper run 13 b of the barbed belt 13 can be fixed for its transport and when Transition from one to the other run around the platen 6.
  • the barbed belts cause the aforementioned precise feed movement of the labels 4 and, on the other hand, due to the features and measures described above, a supply belt 3 can not only be moved forward on the platen in the feed direction, but also in the opposite direction if the drive can be reversed accordingly.
  • the pressure counter bearing 6 is formed in the exemplary embodiment as a pressure beam with a preferably large mass, in particular made of metal.
  • an elastic insert 14 is inserted as a stop surface for the printer 5 or, in the exemplary embodiment, the type wheel 9 b.
  • the pressure bar is connected to the housing of the cassette 11 via a noise-insulating intermediate layer 15, which can be seen above all in FIGS. 4, 6 and 7. Both the elastic insert 14 and the noise-insulating intermediate layer 15 reduce the printing noise, although the advantageous printer 5 can be used with a type wheel 9 b.
  • the lower run 13 a of the barbed belt 13 transports the supply belt 3 to the printer 5, while the upper run 13 b transports the free end of the supply belt 3 away. Above all, the upper run 13 b pulls the supply belt 3 further and keeps it taut.
  • a special feed device within a cassette 11 that can be detachably coupled to the printing device 1 and, at the same time, also to integrate the platen 6, so that the supply belt 3 can already be inserted ready for printing, is to be regarded as a great advantage, which permits the additional measure already mentioned, that To be able to run back supply belt 3 if necessary.
  • a curved guide surface which, in the exemplary embodiment, also resiliently presses outwards as a tensioning element 16 for the supply belt 3.
  • the resilient tensioning element 16 is against the force of one or more tensioning springs 17, which according to FIG. B. can be supported on the platen 6, pivotally mounted on the near axis 5 of the printer 5 18 of the deflection wheels 19 of the barbed tapes 13.
  • the tensioning element 16 can lie well against the inside of the curvature of the supply belt 3 and press it slightly outwards and thus tighten it.
  • a clutch gear 20 as a coupling element, which when the cassette 11 is inserted into the printing device 1 of even engages with a counter gear 21 of the feed drive 8 mounted in the pressure device 1. It can be seen above all in FIGS. 1 and 2 that the feed drive can be designed as a belt drive.
  • the cassette 11 has an approximately cylindrical storage space 2 for a rolled-up supply belt 3, so that it does not have to be wound on its own axis, roll or roller. This is particularly advantageous when a user wants to replace supply tapes 3 with labels of different sizes on one and the same cassette, which he can easily remove from the printing device 1 to replace the supply tape 3.
  • the versatility of the printing device 1 can be increased by the special cassette construction with the feed device 8 contained therein and the integrated pressure counter-bearing 6.
  • At least two different detachable and interchangeable cartridges 11 for supply tapes 3 can belong to it, one of which, according to FIG. 1, has a sharp detaching edge 22 for the labels 4 from the supply tape 3 which are detachably attached to the supply tape 3 behind the stop surface of the printer 5 in the feed direction 3 3 has and the other at this area has a rounded deflection edge 23 on which the supply belt 3 with the labels 4 adhering to it can be continued.
  • the clutch gearwheels 20 are each of the same size and are located within the various cassettes 11 and within the printing device 1 at the same height, but can be engaged at different points on the circumference of the counter gear 21 due to the different dimensions of the two cassettes and the different coupling points.
  • the curvature of the deflection 23 is chosen such that the perforations 12 of the label strip 3 engage on the lower and upper run of the barbed strips 13, as has already been mentioned. In the exemplary embodiment, this leads to the clutch gearwheels 20 on the circumference of the counter gearwheel 21 being offset from the vertical diameter by the same angle but on different sides, as can be seen from the comparison of FIGS. 1 and 2.
  • the coupling points mentioned within the printing device 1 and on the cassette 11 can be designed differently.
  • both are in the area of the platen 6 on the side of the cassette 11, a funnel-shaped guide groove 24 at its entrance for gripping over pivot pins 25 arranged in the printing device 1 and projecting pins 27 on the opposite end of the side wall 26 of the cassette 11 for pivoting into counter-openings 28 on the housing of the printing device 1.
  • the insertion grooves 24 which can be seen in FIGS.
  • the fastening points for the cassette 11 with the detaching edge 22 can be arranged closer to the printer 5 than those for the cassette 1 with a rounded deflection 23, because the latter has a somewhat larger extension.
  • the deflection wheels 19 arranged coaxially with the clutch gearwheel 20 for the barbed belts 13 are larger than the respective other deflection wheels of the feed device 8, so that less space is required in the area of the smaller deflection wheels.
  • any printer in particular a pushing or stamping printer
  • any printer in particular a pushing or stamping printer
  • the labels are fed very precisely and different label formats or materials can be used very quickly.
  • the special cassette 11 provided for this purpose, with the feed device 8 contained therein and the integrated platen 6, not only allows several different label sizes to be kept in stock, but in addition, according to the invention, constructive measures can either be used to immediately output a label to be stuck on or else a stock of printed labels that are still on stick to their supply belt 3.
