Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for generating closely offset and partially overlapping characters on a record carrier in typewriters or similar office machines of the type specified in the preamble of the claim.
  • Patent application EP-A-0014948 has proposed a printing unit for achieving a typeface with uniform character spacing, in which the type holder always executes a U step movement in the same direction and with the same step size after his setting process. This creates the same stop conditions, since any lots are always pulled out on one side.
  • this proposed printing unit the carriage executes a U step movement if a character which has been mistakenly printed is to be removed again from the recording medium.
  • this printing unit enables a much better correction, but even here, a residual character contour sometimes remains visibly on the recording medium.
  • DE-A-2 900 393 a method for producing closely offset and partially overlapping type impressions is known, one impression being made to the left and one to the right of the first impression location.
  • the relative movement required for this purpose between the record carrier and the print type of the type carrier is carried out by parallel displacement of the type carrier in the line direction.
  • the lots of the type holder can be pulled out in the row direction, but not in the direction of rotation. It is therefore also possible that residual character contours remain on the recording medium.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a typewriter or similar office machine with a device for generating partially overlapping characters that can be used for a direction-independent writing operation.
  • FIG. 1 shows a top view of a type plate printer 1 of a typewriter or similar office machine, a carriage 7 being mounted on axes 9, (11) so as to be longitudinally displaceable between side walls 3, 5.
  • the carriage 7 has a base plate 13, which has a type disk drive arrangement 15 shown in FIG. 1 and a type stop device with a pressure hammer 17 and an electromagnet 19.
  • On this base plate 13 there is also an ink ribbon cassette 21 with an ink ribbon 22 which is guided by means of guides 23, 25 between the recording medium 27 and the rotatably mounted type disk 29.
  • an extinguishing device with an extinguishing belt 99, which can be unwound from a supply reel 100 by a transport device, not shown, and rewound onto a reel spool 102.
  • the record carrier 27 can be driven in a known manner via a paper roller 31, which can be driven via a motor (not shown).
  • two drive gears 33, 35 are rotatably mounted, which cooperate in a form-fitting manner with a toothed belt 37 firmly connected to the slide 7.
  • the gear 35 is via a motor, for. B. driven by a stepper motor 39 in both walking directions.
  • the type disk 29 designed as a sum type carrier has a large number of elastic type lamellae, on the free of which Ends the types are arranged.
  • the sum type carrier can also be a spherical head or a type cylinder.
  • the types can also be connected individually with type levers in a known manner.
  • the type plate 29 is via a motor which can be operated in the start-stop mode, for. B. stepper motor 43 gradually adjustable.
  • an optical coding disk 47 is fastened, which interacts with a light source 49 and a plurality of light-sensitive elements 53 arranged in the housing 51, see FIG. 2.
  • coded signals 57 corresponding to the characters to be printed are sent from a keyboard 55 to a control element 59, which can be a microprocessor or a commercially available computer.
  • the control element 59 receives the data, carries out certain calculations and sends corresponding drive pulses via amplifiers 61 and 63 to the sled stepper motor 39 and to the typewriter stepper motor 43. If the sled stepper motor 39 has been subjected to 12 drive pulses in half-step operation, then the sled 7 has become 1/12 inch pitch moved one print position.
  • the type plate stepper motor 43 requires four drive pulses to move the type plate by one character spacing.
  • the electromagnet 19 for the hammer 17 also receives drive pulses from the control element 59 via an amplifier 65.
  • the correction method described above is suitable for direction-independent writing operation, the mechanical and control-related backlashes between the stepper motor 39, the cable 37 and the slide 7 being pulled out in both directions in the simplest way.
  • the carriage 7 z. B. by pressing a backspace key in the keyboard 55 by means of the motor 39 from the position 83 in the direction of arrow 85 into the print position 98. Due to the above-mentioned conditional lots, the carriage 7 does not reach the desired ideal impression position 87, but rather the position 98, which deviates from the impression position 87 by a fraction of a switching step.
  • the control device 59 brings the correction device into the working position and emits a trigger signal via the amplifier 65 to the electromagnet 19, which generates a first erasure impression on the recording medium 27 by means of the printing hammer 17.
  • the control device 59 triggers a movement of the carriage 7 by a few elementary steps, each of which is a fraction ⁇ s of a switching step, from the position 98 in the positioning direction 85 of the carriage 7 last executed in the direction 86 and then an opposite positioning direction from the position 90 by same elementary step number in the impression position 92.
  • the arrangement according to the invention is suitable for direction-independent writing operation, the first step of the pilgrimage step also being carried out in the direction of the arrow 89 when the impression position 87 is approached in the direction of the arrow 89.
  • the first impression is made in position 92 and the second impression in position 98.
  • the type plate performs a rotary movement by a few elementary steps, each of which is a fraction of a switching step, from the imprint position 71 in the last direction of positioning in the direction of arrow 72 and an opposite positioning in the direction of arrow 74 by the same number of elementary steps in the imprint position.
  • This impression position position 76 is due to the drawn out lots in the opposite direction from the ideal position position 78 by ⁇ J °.
  • the type plate 29 executes a rotary movement in the manner described above.
  • the type disc 29 makes a rotary movement from the rotational position 76 in the direction of arrow 73 by a few elementary steps in the positioning direction last carried out and then an opposite positioning in direction 75 by the same number of elementary steps in the rotational position 71 Pulled loose in the setting device for the type plate 29 in the other direction of rotation.
  • the control device 59 now triggers the hammer movement of the print hammer 17 and thus the second stop on the recording medium 27 via the amplifier 65 and the electromagnet 19.
  • the pilgrim step movement of the carriage 7 or the type disk 29 described above can also be used to generate bold letters.
  • the platen roller When correcting a character or a word in a previous line, the platen roller makes a mitage movement such that when a line is driven from the opposite direction to the line writing direction, the platen roller 31 is rotated a certain distance than is necessary. Then there is a reversal of the rotary movement of the platen roller 31 for adjustment to the desired line, the correction being then carried out in one of the methods described above.
