Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyätheramid-. säureimid oder Polyätherimid
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyätheramidsäureimid oder Polyätherimid und sie nimmt
Bezug auf das eigene US-Patent 4 09 8 800 "Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyätheramidsäuren" und auf die gleichzeitig eingereichte
Patentanmeldung 84O4-RD-11113 "Im Spritzgußverfahren
ausformbare Polyätherimid-Oligomere und Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung".
Wie das eigene US-Patent 4 098 800 zeigt, können teilchenförmig gemachte oligomere Polyätheramidsäuren durch Umsetzung zwischen
(a) einem aromatischen Bis(ätheranhydrid) oder "organischen Dianhydrid"der Formel

Es wurde gefunden, daß sich die oben beschriebenen teilchenförmigen
Polyätheramidsäuren der US-PS 4 098 800 für verschiedene Überzugszwecke brauchbar sind, z.B. für Anwendung
auf Aluminium- und Kupferdraht unter Anwendung elektrostatischer Fließbettüberzugsverfahren. Doch bilden
diese elektrostatisch aufgebrachten oligomeren Pulver häufig Filme, die Blasen eingeschlossen enthalten, was

die Brauchbarkeit des erhaltenen Polyätherimids als Isolierüberzug
herabsetzt.
In der gleichzeitig eingereichten US-Patentanmeldung (RD-8287) werden verbesserte Ergebnisse erzielt, wenn die
teilchenförmige, von organischem Lösungsmittel praktisch
freie Polyätheramidsäure der US-PS 4 098 800 in nicht
oxydierender Atmosphäre ausreichend lange erwärmt wurde, um eine 70%ige Imidbildung der Polyätheramidsäure ohne
wesentliches Sintern des Pulvers zu bewirken. Eine Blasenbildung von Filmen wurde herabgesetzt, wenn das imidierte
Pulver auf verschiedene Substrate, wie Draht, aufgebracht wurde. Doch waren die erhaltenen Filme oft stark
vernetzt oder die Polyätheramidsäure-Oligomeren wiesen häufig Amin-Endgruppen auf, was die Vorpolymeren für die
Herstellung hochmolekularer Thermoplaste, die nach Standardspritzgußtechniken
formbar sind, ungeeignet macht.
Die Erfindung beruht auf der Feststellung, daß teilchenförmiges,
von organischem Lösungsmittel praktisch freies Polyätherimid-Oligomer, das zu hochmolekularem Zustand
spritzgußgeformt werden kann, dadurch hergestellt werden kann, daß praktisch äquimolare Mengen aromatischen Bis-(ätheranhydrids)
der Formel (1) und organischen Diamins der Formel (3) in Gegenwart von Wasser und praktisch in Abwesenheit eines organischen Lösungsmittels, im Unterschied
zu der gleichzeitig eingereichten eigenen Anmeldung 84O4-RD-11113 miteinander
umgesetzt werden. Das überraschende Merkmal der Erfindung liegt darin, daß die Verwendung von Wasser in
Abwesenheit organischen Lösungsmittels die Umsetzung zwischen dem aromatischen Bis(ätheranhydrid) und dem organischen
Diamin ermöglicht bzw. begünstigt und daß die Stöchiometrie
der Reaktionskomponenten in dem anfallenden Polyätheramidsäure- Reaktionsprodukt praktisch erhalten bleibt,,
Daher kann die gewonnene Polyätheramidsäure leicht in einen hochmolekularen, im Spritzgußverfahren verarbeitbaren,

Erfindungsgemäß wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von
Polyätheramidsäure geschaffen, gekennzeichnet durch (A) Erwärmen eines Gemischs, das praktisch frei ist von
organischem Lösungsmittel und 20 bis 95 Gew.-% Wasser sowie 5 bis 80 Gew.-% eines praktisch äquimolaren
Gemischs aus organischem Diamin der Formel (3) und einer Bis(ätherdicarbonyl)-Verbindung der Formel

Von diesen besonders bevorzugte aromatische Bis(ätheranhydride) sind 2,2-Bis[4-(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]-propan-dianhydrid,
2,2-Bis[4-(2,3-dicarboxyphenoxy)-phenyl]propan-dianhydrid;
4-(2,3-Dicarboxyphenoxyj-4'-(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)-diphenyl-2,2-propan-dianhydrid
und deren Gemische.
Einige der aromatischen Bis(ätheranhydride) der Formel
(1) sind in der US-PS 3 972 902 wiedergegeben. Wie hier
beschrieben, können die Bis(ätheranhydride) durch Hydrolyse
und anschließende Dehydratation des Reaktionsprodukts von nitrosubstituierten Phthalonitrilen mit einem Metallsalz
einer zweiwertigen Phenolverbindung in Gegenwart eines dipolaren aprotischen Lösungsmittels hergestellt werden.
Weitere aromatische Bis(ätheranhydride), die auch unter
die Formel (1) fallen, wurden von Koton, H.M. Florinski,
F.S. Bessonov, M.I. Rudakov, A.P. (Institut für Heteroorganische
Verbindungen), Akademie der Wissenschaften (UdSSR), SU 257 010, und von M. M. Koton, F.S. Florinski,
Zh. Org. Khim., 4 (5), 774 (1968) angegeben.

Bei der praktischen Durchführung der Erfindung können oligomere teilchenförmige Polyätheramidsäure oder "Polyamidsäure"

und deren Mischungen ist, durch Umsetzung zwischen, praktisch
äquimolaren Mengen aromatischer Bis (ätherdicarbonyl)-Verbindung der Formel (4) oder "organischen Dianhydrids" und
organischen Diamins der Formel (3) hergestellt werden. Die Reaktion erfolgt in Gegenwart von Wasser bei Temperaturen
im Bereich von 30 bis 3500C, entweder unter Atmosphärendruck
oder unter dem sich selbst einstellenden Druck.
Die Reaktion kann durch Bewegen der Bestandteile mit einem Rührer, einem vertikalen Schneckenmischer usw., begünstigt
werden. In manchen Fällen kann die Umsetzung je-

- 13 doch auch ohne Rühren erfolgen.
Um eine brauchbare Polyätheramidsäure zu schaffen, werden bevorzugt kettenbeendende Einheiten in die Polyätheramidsäure
eingearbeitet, während sie zunächst aus dem organischen Dianhydrid und dem organischen Diamin hergestellt
wird. Andererseits können kettenbeendende Einheiten in die Polyätheramidsäure während der Schmelzpolymerisation
bei Temperaturen im Bereich von 200 bis 3500C eingearbeitet
werden, während sie bewegt wird, z.B. in einem Extruder. Verwendbare geeignete kettenbeendende Monomere sind z.B.
Amine, wie R NH-, wobei R unter C//r .-,.-aromatischen
organischen Resten und C,., Of. >-Alkylresten ausgewählt ist.
Einige bevorzugte Amine sind z.B. Anilin, Toluidin, Anisidin, Octylamin, Dodecylamin usw. Außer organischem
Amin können auch organische Anhydride, wie Phthalsäureanhydrid usw., verwendet werden. Die Kettenabbrecher können
zu 0,01 bis 0,2 Mol pro Mol organischen Dianhydrids oder organischen Diamins eingesetzt werden.
Um dem Fachmann die praktische Durchführung der Erfindung zu erleichtern, sind die nachfolgenden Beispiele zur Veranschaulichung,
nicht zur Beschränkung, gegeben. Alle Teile beziehen sich auf das Gewicht.
Ein Gemisch aus 31,192 Teilen 2,2-Bis[4-(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]propan
und 6,061 Teilen m-Phenylendiamin und etwa 100 Teilen Wasser wurde unter einer Argonatmosphäre
gerührt und in einem vertikalen Zwillingsschrauben-Schneckenmischer auf Rückfluß erwärmt. Es bildete sich
sofort eine wässrige Suspension, und nach etwa 1,5 h erstarrte die ölige Phase zu einem gelben Granulat. Die
Reaktion wurde nach 2 h Erwärmen auf Rückfluß beendet. Das Produkt wurde filtriert und unter Vakuum getrocknet. Die

Ausbeute betrug 32,2 Teile oder 91,4 %. Nach dem Herstellungsverfahren
war das Produkt ein Polyätheramidsäureimid mit einer Intrinsik-Viskosität in Dimethylacetamid
von 0,11 dl/g.
Die gleiche Arbeitsweise wurde wiederholt, mit der Ausnahme, daß die Reaktion nach 3-stündigem Rückflußerwärmen
beendet wurde. Die Intrinsik-Viskosität des Polyätheramidsäureimids war 0,17 dl/g in Dimethylacetamid.
.Das obige Polyätheramidsäureimid wird in einen Extruder gemäß
der Arbeitsweise der US-PS 4 011 198 gebracht, was zur Herstellung eines hochfesten Polyätherimids führte.
Ein Gemisch von 0,5205 Teilen 2,2-Bis[4-(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]propan-dianhydrid
und 0,1081 Teilen m-Phenylendiamin und etwa 1 Teil Wasser wurde in ein Glasrohr
gebracht. Das Rohr wurde unter Vakuum verschlossen und dann 2 h auf 2100C erwärmt. Es konnte sich langsam abkühlen,
und das Produkt wurde durch Filtrieren isoliert. In 97,3 % Ausbeute wurde ein teilchenförmiges Produkt mit
einer Intrinsik-Viskosität von 0,28 dl/g in Chloroform
erhalten. Nach dem Herstellungsverfahren war das Produkt ein Polyätherimid.
Die gleiche Umsetzung wurde wiederholt, mit der Ausnahme, daß anstelle des Dianhydrids 0,5505 Teile der entsprechenden
Tetrasäure verwendet wurden. Es wurden 0,5798 .Teile
eines teilchenförmigen Produkts mit einer Intrinsik-Visko-sität
von 0,25 dl/g in Chloroform erhalten. Diese teilchenförmigen Produkte werden nach der Arbeitsweise des Beispiels
2 zu hochmolekularem Polyätherimid schmelzextrudiert.
In einen mit Glas ausgekleideten Autoklav wurden 208,15 Tel-

le 2,2-Bis[4-(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]propan-dianhydrid,
43,25 Teile m-Phenylendiamin und etwa 250 Teile Wasser gebracht. Der Behälter wurde mit Stickstoff gespült
und 1 h auf 2 38°C erwärmt. Das Reaktionsgemisch wurde dann weitere 2 h bei 23 8°C gerührt und konnte sich
dann abkühlen. Das Wasser wurde durch Dekantieren entfernt, und das Produkt wurde in etwa 15.000 Teilen Methylenchlorid
gelöst. Die Methylenchlorid-Lösung wurde dann in Methanol gegossen und das ausgefallene Produkt abfiltriert.
Ein teilchenförmiges Produkt wurde in quantitativer Ausbeute erhalten, es hatte eine Intrinsik-Viskosität von 0,36
dl/g in Chloroform. Nach dem Herstellungsverfahren war das Produkt ein Polyätherimid, das im wesentlichen aus chemisch
miteinander verbundenen Einheiten der Formel
bestand.
Das obige teilchenförmige Polyätherimid wird gemäß Beispiel 1 zu einem spritzgußverformbaren Hochleistungsthermoplast
schmelzextrudiert. .
Ein Gemisch aus 22,26 Teilen der Tetrasäure des Beispiels 2, 4,326 Teilen m-Phenylendiamin, etwa 1 Teil einer 1%igen
wässrigen Lösung von Natriumdodecylbenzolsulfonat und etwa 50 Teilen Wasser wurde gerührt und auf Rückfluß erwärmt.
Es bildete sich eine feine, milchige Dispersion. Nach etwa 20 min begann eine ölige Phase sich abzuscheiden, die in
1,5 h erstarrte. Sie wurde zu einem feinen Granulat gebrochen. Das Reaktionsgemisch wurde weiter gerührt und

insgesamt 10h rückflußgekocht und filtriert. In 99,9 %
Ausbeute wurde ein pulvriges Produkt mit einer Intrinsik-Viskosität von 0,13 dl/g in Dimethylformamid erhalten.
Nach dem Herstellungsverfahren war das Produkt ein Polyätheramidsäureimid
mit chemisch miteinander verbundenen Einheiten der Formel
Das obige Polyätheramidsäureimid wurde unter Verschluß 3 h
auf 2600C erwärmt. Es wurde ein Polyätherimid mit einer
Intrinsik-Viskosität von 0,78 dl/g erhalten, wenn das Produkt gewonnen wurde.
Gemische äquimolarer-Mengen organischen Dianhydrids und
organischen Diamins und Wasser wurden in einen senkrechten
Schneckenmischer (Helicone Mixer) aus. rostfreiem Stahl gebracht.
Die Gemische wurden gerührt und 4 h auf Rückfluß
erwärmt, Erie Produkte wurden abfiltriert und mit Wasser
gewaschen und getrocknet» Die folgenden Ergebnisse wurden erhal-ten, wobei "DMA" Dimethylaeetamid, "IvV." die
Intrinsik-Viskosität, Tm die Schmelztemperatur, Tg. die
Glasübergangstemperatur und DSC Differenzscanning-Kalorimeter
bedeutet.-

Die obigen Ergebnisse zeigen, daß das erfindungsgemäße
Verfahren auch zur Herstellung von Polyimiden zusätzlich zu Polyätherimiden verwendet werden kann. Es zeigt
sich, daß das Polyätherimid mit chemisch gebundenem Schwefel ein teilchenförmiges Material ist, das nach der
Arbeitsweise des Beispiels 1 in höhermolekulares Polyätherimid umgewandelt werden kann. Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellten Polyimide basieren im
Unterschied zu den Polyätherimiden auf der Reaktion organischer Dianhydride der Formel
Verfahren auch zur Herstellung von Polyimiden zusätzlich zu Polyätherimiden verwendet werden kann. Es zeigt
sich, daß das Polyätherimid mit chemisch gebundenem Schwefel ein teilchenförmiges Material ist, das nach der
Arbeitsweise des Beispiels 1 in höhermolekulares Polyätherimid umgewandelt werden kann. Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellten Polyimide basieren im
Unterschied zu den Polyätherimiden auf der Reaktion organischer Dianhydride der Formel

Wenngleich die obigen Beispiele nur auf einige wenige der zahlreichen Variablen des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren gerichtet
sind, versteht es sich, daß die Erfindung auf ein viel breiteres Verfahren mit der Dicarbonylyerbindung der
Formel (4), dem organischen Dianhydrid der Formel (5) und dem organischen Diamin der Formel (3) gerichtet ist.

1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyätheramidsäureimid
oder Polyätherimid, gekennzeichnet durch (A) Erwärmen eines Gemischs, das praktisch frei ist von
organischem Lösungsmittel und 20 bis 95 Gew.-% Wasser sowie 5 bis 80 Gew.-% eines praktisch äquimolaren
Gemischs aus organischem Diamin der Formel
und einer Bis(ätherdicarbonyl)-Verbindung der Formel

2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Dicarbonylverbindung 2,2-Bis[4-(3, 4-Dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]-propandianhydrid
verwendet wird.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Dicarbonylverbindung 2,2-Bis[4-(3,4-Dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]-propan
verwendet wird.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als organisches Diamin m-Phenylendiamin verwendet wird.
5. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Polyimids, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß
(C) ein Gemisch, das praktisch frei ist von organischem Lösungsmittel und 20 bis 95 Gew.-% Wasser sowie
5 bis 80 Gew.-% eines praktisch äquimolaren Gemischs aus organischem Diamin der Formel
und einem organischen Dianhydrid der Formel

aufweist, erwärmt und
(D) das Polyimid aus dem Gemisch (C) gewonnen wird,

worin R ein vierwertiger organischer C.,„„.-Rest

und R ein zweiwertiger organischer Rest ist, ausgewählt aus/ Gruppe aromatischer Kohlenwasserstoffreste mit 6 bis
20 Kohlenstoffatomen und deren halogenierter Derivate, der Alkylenreste mit 2 bis etwa 20 Kohlenstoffatomen,
