Description
Die Erfindung betrifft polymere dispergierende Additivkonzentrate
für Schmieröle und Kohlenwasserstoffbrennstoffe,
die auch zum Verbessern des Viskositätsindex für Schmieröle
geeignet sind. Insbesondere betrifft die Erfindung Additivkonzentrate, enthaltend im
wesentlichen gesättigte Polymere, die Äthylen und ein oder
mehrere C₃- bis C₂₈-alpha-Olefine, vorzugsweise Propylen,
enthalten und die in Gegenwart eines freie Radikale liefernden
Starters mit einer äthylenisch ungesättigten Carbonsäure
bei erhöhter Temperatur in inerter Atmosphäre in
Lösung gepfropft worden sind und die danach mit einer polyfunktionellen
Substanz, die mit Carboxylgruppen reagiert,
nämlich (a) einem Polyamin, (b) einem Polyol oder (c) einem
Hydroxylamin oder Mischungen davon, umsetzt worden ist,
wobei multifunktionelle polymere Reaktionsprodukte
entstehen.
Eine Vielzahl von polymeren Materialien, die Stickstoff und/
oder Sauerstoff enthalten, sind in US-Patenten und anderen
Patenten als Dispergentien für Brennstoffe und Schmiermittel
und zum Verbessern des Viskositätsindex für Schmiermittel
beschrieben worden. Zum Beispiel: In der US-PS 3 326 804
werden die Schlamm dispergierenden Eigenschaften von öligen
Präparationen verbessert, indem ihnen das Reaktionsprodukt
aus einem Polyalkylen-Polyamin mit einem Produkt zugesetzt
wird, das durch Pfropfen von Maleinsäureanhydrid auf mit
Hydroperoxid umgesetzte Äthylen-Copolymere erhalten wurde.
In der US-PS 3 404 091 werden polare Monomere wie z. B. Acrylnitril
oder Methylacrylamid auf mit Hydroperoxid umgesetzte
Copolymere aus Äthylen und Propylen gepfropft, um multifunktionelle
Additive herzustellen.
In der US-PS 3 404 092 werden hydroxylierte Äthylen-Propylen
Copolymere mit Isocyanaten umgesetzt, um den Viskositätsindex
verbessernde Materialien herzustellen, die eine verbesserte
Verdickungswirksamkeit und Scherstabilität in Mineralölen
aufweisen.
In der US-PS 3 687 849 werden verschiedene ungesättigte Monomere
einschließlich ungesättigter polybasischer Säuren,
einschließlich Maleinsäureanhydrid auf ein abgebautes, mit
Hydroperoxid umgesetztes Mischpolymerisat aus Äthylen und
Propylen gepfropft (siehe auch US-PS 3 388 067, 3 687 905 und
3 785 980).
In der US-PS 3 769 216 wird ein ataktisches (d. h. nicht
kristallines) Copolymer aus Äthylen und Propylen beschrieben,
das 45 bis 65 Molprozent Äthylen enthält, das mechanisch in
Gegenwart von Sauerstoff abgebaut und dann mit einem Polyamin
umgesetzt wurde.
In der US-PS 3 765 954 wird das Reaktionsprodukt aus einem
Polyamin mit einem mit Luft oxidierten Copolymeren aus Äthylen
und Propylen, das zuerst mit Maleinsäureanhydrid umgesetzt
wurde, beschrieben.
In der GB-PS 1 031 130 wird ein Additiv beschrieben, das
durch Umsetzung eines Polyolefins, das eine Succinsäuregruppe
trägt, mit einem Hydroxylgruppen tragenden aliphatischen
Amin hergestellt wurde, wobei die Succinsäuregruppe, die
in das Polyolefin eingeführt worden ist, mehrere Doppelbindungen
oder mehrere Halogenatome aufweist, um die Bildung
der Doppelbindungen zu ermöglichen. Die GB-PS 1 172 818 beschreibt
die Herstellung von Additiven für Schmieröle durch
Kondensation eines Amins mit einem oxidierten, z. B. ozonisierten
Polymeren.
Es ist auch bekannt, äthylenisch ungesättigte Carbonsäure
z. B. Maleinsäureanhydrid auf gesättigte Äthylen-Copolymere
und -Terpolymere in Gegenwart eines freie Radikale liefernden
Starters, wie z. B. einem organischen Peroxid zu pfropfen.
Das Pfropfen kann in Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels, wie
z. B. Benzol und Paraffinen mit niedrigem Molekulargewicht
(siehe BE-PS 607 269) und Phenylhalogeniden (siehe US-PS
3 255 130) erfolgen. Dieses Pfropfen wurde auch bei Temperaturen
von 150°C bis 200°C ohne Lösungsmittel durchgeführt
(siehe US-PS 3 427 183). Solche mit Maleinsäureanhydrid gepfropften
Äthylen-Polymere, wobei das Pfropfen durch freie
Radikale gestartet wurde, sind auch anschließend mit polyfunktionellen
Verbindungen umgesetzt worden, die die Vernetzung
zwischen den verschiedenen polymeren Ketten beschleunigen
können, wie z. B. Metalloxiden und Metallhydroxiden,
Glykolen und Diaminen (siehe GB-PS 885 969 und US-PS
3 236 917).
Aufgabe vorliegender Erfindung ist es, ein öllösliches
Additiv bereitzustellen, welches nicht nur den Schlamm des
Schmieröls dispergiert, sondern auch den Viskositätsindex
des Schmieröls verbessert.
Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß durch Additivkonzentrate gemäß dem
Hauptanspruch gelöst. Die Unteransprüche betreffen bevorzugte
Ausgestaltungen bzw. ein Verfahren zur Herstellung
der Additive. Dabei wird ein öllösliches Additivkonzentrat
erhalten, welches hergestellt wird durch ein
durch freie Radikale gestartetes
Pfropfen einer äthylenisch ungesättigten Dicarbonsäure
in Lösung bei erhöhter Temperatur auf ein im wesentlichen
gesättigtes Copolymer, das Äthylen und wenigstens ein anderes
α-Olefin enthält. Dadurch entsteht ohne wesentlichen Polymerabbau
ein geeignetes Polymer als Vorstufe, das anschließend
mit einer mit Carbonsäuren reagierenden polyfunktionellen
Substanz, nämlich einem Polyamin, einem Polyol oder einem
Hydroxylamin oder Mischungen davon umgesetzt werden kann,
wobei multifunktionelle polymere Derivate entstehen, die besonders
als Additive für Schmieröle zur Herabsetzung des
Motorenschlamms und der Verlackung verwendet werden können.
Die erfindungsgemäß zu pfropfenden Äthylen-Copolymere enthalten
2 bis 98, vorzugsweise 30 bis 80 Gew.-%
Äthylen und 2 bis 98, vorzugsweise 20 bis 70 Gew.-%
eines oder mehrerer C₃ bis C₂₈, vorzugsweise C₃ bis C₁₈,
besonders bevorzugt C₃ bis C₈ α-Olefine. Solche Copolymeren
haben vorzugsweise einen Kristallisationsgrad kleiner als
25 Gew.-%, bestimmt durch Röntgen- und Differentialthermoanalyse,
und ein auf das Zahlenmittel bezogenes mittleres
Molekulargewicht (n) im Bereich von etwa 700 bis etwa 500 000,
vorzugsweise 700 bis 250 000, bestimmt durch Dampfphasenosmometrie
oder Membranosmometrie. Copolymere aus Äthylen
und Propylen werden besonders bevorzugt. Andere α-Olefine,
die anstelle des Propylens für die Bildung des Copolymers
geeignet sind oder die zusammen mit Äthylen und Propylen
für die Bildung eines Terpolymers verwendet werden, umfassen
1-Buten, 1-Penten, 1-Hexen, 1-Octen ebenso wie verzweigte
α-Olefine, z. B. 5-Methylpenten-1, 6-Methylhepten-1 und
deren Mischungen.
Diese Äthylen-Copolymere
können unter Verwendung der bekannten Ziegler-Natta-
Katalysatoren, wie in der GB-PS 1 397 994 beschrieben, hergestellt
werden.
Solche eine Polymerisation kann zur Herstellung des Äthylen-Copolymeren
durchgeführt werden, indem 0,1 bis 15, z. B. 5 Teile
Äthylen, 0,05 bis 10, z. B. 2,5 Teile jenes höheren α-Olefins,
insbesondere Propylen und 10 bis 10 000 Teile Wasserstoff je
eine Million Teile Äthylen in 100 Teile eines inerten flüssigen
Lösungsmittels gebracht werden, das (a) etwa 0,0017 bis 0,017,
z. B. 0,0086 Teile eines Übergangsmetalls als Hauptkatalysator,
z. B. VOCl₃ und (b) etwa 0,0084 bis 0,084, z. B. 0,042 Teile eines
Cokatalysators, z. B. (C₂H₅)₃AlCl₃ enthält; dieses Gemisch wird
bei einer Temperatur von etwa 25°C und einem Druck von 5,25 kg/cm²
so lange umgesetzt, bis ein optimaler Umsatz erreicht ist,
z. B. 15 Minuten bis eine halbe Stunde. Alle Teile sind dabei
Gewichtsteile.
Die äthylenisch ungesättigten Carbonsäuren, die auf die Copolymeren
gepfropft werden, sind organische Verbindungen, die wenigstens
eine äthylenische Bindung und wenigstens zwei Carbonsäuregruppen
oder deren Anhydridgruppen oder eine polare Gruppe
enthalten, die durch Oxidation oder Hydrolyse in die Carboxylgruppen
umgewandelt werden können. Maleinsäureanhydrid oder
ein Derivat davon werden bevorzugt, da sie offensichtlich
nicht nennenswert homopolymerisieren, sondern auf die äthylenischen
Copolymere oder Terpolymere gepfropft werden, wobei
sie zwei Carbonsäurefunktionen liefern. Solch bevorzugte
Materialien haben die allgemeine Formel
in der R₁ und R₂ Wasserstoff oder Halogen sind und X Sauerstoff,
die Gruppe NH oder NR₃ ist, worin R₃ ein Kohlenwasserstoffamin
oder eine Alkylgruppe ist, z. B. eine C₁- bis C₄₀-
Alkylgruppe, vorzugsweise C₁- bis C₁₈-Alkylgruppe. Geeignete
Beispiele umfassen Chlormaleinsäureanhydrid, Itakonsäureanhydrid,
N-Hexylmaleinimid oder die entsprechenden Dicarbonsäuren,
wie z. B. Maleinsäure oder Fumarsäure.
Das durch freie Radikale gestartete Aufpfropfen der äthylenisch
ungesättigten Carbonsäuren in Lösungsmitteln, wie z. B.
Benzol, ist im Stand der Technik bekannt (US-PS 3 236 917).
Das erfindungsgemäße Aufpfropfen wird bei erhöhter Temperatur
im Bereich von 100°C bis 250°C, vorzugsweise 120°C bis
190°C und besonders bevorzugt von 150°C bis 180°C, z. B.
über 160°C, in einer Lösung
eines mineralischen Schmieröls, die
5 bis 30 Gew.-%, bezogen auf die ursprüngliche Gesamtlösung,
Äthylenpolymer enthält, ausgeführt, und zwar
in einer inerten Atmosphäre. Das Aufpfropfen erfolgt
in Gegenwart einer bei hohen Temperaturen zersetzlichen Verbindung,
die bei der erhöhten Temperatur freie Radikale liefern
kann.
Als freie Radikale liefernde Starter können verwendet werden
Peroxide, Hydroperoxide und Azoverbindungen, die einen Siedepunkt
von mehr als 100°C haben und innerhalb des Temperaturbereichs,
der beim Pfropfen angewandt wird, sich thermisch
zersetzen, wobei die freien Radikale entstehen. Repräsentativ
für die freie Radikale liefernden Starter sind Azobutyronitril
und 2,5-Dimethyl-hex-3-in-2,5-bis-tert.-butyl-peroxid
(Lupersol 130®)
oder sein Hexenanalogon. Der Starter wird in einer Menge
zwischen 0,005% und 1%, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht
der Polymerlösung, verwendet.
Die äthylenisch ungesättigte Dicarbonsäure, z. B. Maleinsäureanhydrid,
wird in einer Menge von 0,01% bis 10%, vorzugsweise
0,1 bis 0,8%, bezogen auf das Gewicht der ursprünglichen
Gesamtöllösung, verwendet. Die obengenannten Dicarbonsäuren
und der freie Radikale liefernde Starter werden in einem
Gewichtsprozentverhältnis von 1,0 : 1 bis 30 : 1, vorzugsweise
2,0 : 1 bis 5 :1 und besonders bevorzugt von 2,0 : 1
bis 2,6 : 1 verwendet. Diese Verhältnisse sind die günstigsten
Bereiche, wenn Lupersol verwendet wird. Wenn andere Starter
verwendet werden, dann sollte das Verhältnis vorzugsweise so
geändert werden, daß ungefähr dieselbe Anzahl von Molen an
freien Radikalen entstehen wie beim Lupersol 130® (das 4 Mol
freie Radikale je Mol Starter bildet).
Das Aufpfropfen wird in einer inerten Atmosphäre, wie z. B.
durch Stickstoffüberlagerung, ausgeführt.
Die inerte Atmosphäre sollte frei von Sauerstoff sein,
d. h. es sollte vorzugsweise während der durch freie Radikale
gestarteten Pfropfung des Polymeren keine nennenswerte Polymeroxidation
ablaufen. Keine nennenswerte Oxidation wird
für die erfindungsgemäßen Zwecke so definiert, daß die Einführung
an Sauerstoff in das gepfropfte Polymer kleiner als
etwa 0,05 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise kleiner als etwa 0,01 Gew.-%,
ist, ausgenommen jener Sauerstoff, der durch das Pfropfen
der Carbonsäure eingeführt wird. Die Pfropfzeit liegt im
Bereich von 0,1 bis 12 Stunden, vorzugsweise von
0,5 bis 6 Stunden und besonders bevorzugt von 0,5 bis 3 Stunden.
Die Pfropfreaktion wird wenigstens ungefähr 4mal, vorzugsweise
wenigstens 6mal, so lang durchgeführt, wie die
Halbwertzeit des die freie Radikale liefernden Starters bei
der verwendeten Reaktionstemperatur beträgt. Daher sind z. B.
bei Lupersol 130® etwa 2 Stunden bei 160°C und eine Stunde
bei 170°C erforderlich. Lupersol 130® hat einen Siedepunkt von
etwa 243°C (aus dem Dampfdruck extrapoliert); seine Halbwertzeit
beträgt bei 160°C 20 Minuten, bei 170°C 8 Minuten
und bei 180°C 3 Minuten. Zeit und Temperatur sollten so aufeinander
abgestimmt sein, daß im wesentlichen das ganze
Peroxid (d. h. über 90%) zersetzt ist.
Beim Pfropfverfahren wird die Copolymerlösung zuerst auf die
Pfropftemperatur erhitzt und dann werden die Dicarbonsäure
und der Starter unter Durchmischen zugegeben, obwohl sie auch
vor dem Erhitzen zugegeben werden können. Wenn die Reaktion
vollständig ist, wird der Überschuß an Maleinsäureanhydrid
entfernt, indem man ein inertes Gas durchbläst, z. B. feinverteilten
Stickstoff.
In dem Pfropfschritt wird das verwendete Maleinsäureanhydrid
oder eine andere Dicarbonsäure auf das Polymer und auf das
Reaktionslösungsmittel Öl gepfropft, wobei die Gew.-%, die
auf das Polymer gepfropft werden, normalerweise größer sind
als die Menge, die auf das Öl gepfropft wird, wegen der
größeren Reaktionsfähigkeit des Polymeren beim Pfropfen. Die
genaue Aufteilung zwischen den beiden Materialien hängt jedoch
vom Polymer und seiner Reaktionsfähigkeit, der Reaktionsfähigkeit
und der Art des Öls sowie auch von der Konzentration des
Polymeren in dem Öl ab. Die Aufteilung kann empirisch aus
den Infrarotanalysen des in Öl- und Polymerfraktionen dialysierten
Produkts bestimmt werden, indem in jedem der Anhydrid-
Absorptionspeak gemessen wird.
Die Pfropfung wird in einem mineralischen
Schmieröl durchgeführt, das nach dem Pfropfschritt nicht entfernt
zu werden braucht, sondern als Lösungsmittel in der folgenden
Reaktion des Pfropfpolymeren mit der polyfunktionellen
Substanz und als Lösungsmittel für das Endprodukt zur Bildung
des Konzentrats verwendet werden kann.
Geeignete Polyamine für die Reaktion mit den gepfropften,
Äthylen enthaltenden Polymeren umfassen Polyamine mit insgesamt
2 bis 60, z. B. 3 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen und
2 bis 12, z. B. 2 bis 6 Stickstoffatomen im Molekül, wobei die
Amine
Hydroxylgruppen,
Alkoxygruppen, Amidgruppen, Imidazolingruppen enthalten können.
Bevorzugte Amine sind aliphatische gesättigte Polyamine, einschließlich
der mit der allgemeinen Formel
in der R und R′ unabhängig voneinander Wasserstoff, eine
geradkettige oder verzweigte C₁- bis C₂₅-Alkylgruppe, eine
(C₁ bis C₁₂)Alkoxy-(C₂ bis C₆)alkylengruppe, eine C₂- bis C₁₃-
Hydroxy- oder Aminoalkylengruppe oder eine (C₁ bis C₁₂)Alkylamino-
(C₂ bis C₆)alkylengruppe, s eine Zahl von 2 bis 6, vorzugsweise
2 bis 4, und t eine Zahl von 0 bis 10, vorzugsweise
2 bis 6 ist.
Beispiele für geeignete Aminverbindungen umfassen Ditalgamin,
1,2-Diaminoäthan, 1,3-Diaminopropan, 1,4-Diaminobutan, 1,6-
Diaminohexan, Diäthylentriamin, Triäthylentetramin, Tetraäthylenpentamin,
1,2-Propylendiamin, Di-(1,2-propylen)triamin,
Di-(1,3-propylen)triamin, N,N-Dimethyl-1,3-diaminopropan,
N,N-Di-(2-aminoäthyl)äthylendiamin, N,N-Di-(2-hydroxyäthyl)-
1,3-propylendiamin und N-Dodecyl-1,3-propandiamin.
Andere geeignete Aminverbindungen umfassen alicyclische
Diamine, wie z. B. 1,4-Di-(aminomethyl)cyclohexan und heterocyclische
Stickstoffverbindungen, wie z. B. Imidazoline und
N-Aminoalkyl-piperazine der allgemeinen Formel
in der G Wasserstoff oder eine ω-Aminoalkylengruppe mit
1 bis 3 Kohlenstoffatomen und p eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 4
ist. Beispiele für solche Amine umfassen 2-Pentadecylimidazolin,
N-(2-Aminoäthyl)piperazin, N-(3-Aminopropyl)piperazin und
N,N′-Di-(2-aminoäthyl)piperazin. Aminomorpholine, wie z. B.
N-(3-Aminopropyl)morpholin können ebenfalls verwendet werden.
Im Handel erhältliche Mischungen von Aminverbindungen können
vorteilhaft verwendet werden. Zum Beispiel umfaßt ein Verfahren zur
Herstellung von Alkylenaminen die Reaktionen eines Alkylendhalogenids
(wie z. B. Äthylendichlorid oder Propylendichlorid)
mit Ammoniak, die eine komplexe Mischung von Alkylgruppen
ergibt, die Verbindungen, wie Diäthylentriamin, Triäthylentetramin,
Tetraäthylenpentamin und isomere Piperazine
bilden. Billige Polyäthylenaminverbindungen mit einer Zusammensetzung
von annähernd Tetraäthylenpentamin sind im Handel
unter der Handelsbezeichnung Polyamine 400 erhältlich.
Geeignete Polyole für die Reaktion mit den gepfropften
Äthylen enthaltenden Polymeren sind mehrwertige Alkohole,
vorzugsweise Kohlenwasserstoffalkohole, die 2 bis
30, vorzugsweise 2 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatome und 2 bis
10, vorzugsweise 2 bis 5 Hydroxylgruppen enthalten, z. B.
Glyzerin, Alkylenglykole, wie Dipropylglykol, Trimethyloläthan,
Trimethylolpropan und bevorzugt Pentaerythrit.
Geeignete Hydroxylamine für die Reaktion mit dem gepfropften
Äthylen enthaltenden Polymeren sind primäre und sekundäre
Amine mit 2 bis 30, vorzugsweise 2 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen,
1 bis 6 Hydroxylgruppen, vorzugsweise 2 bis 3 Hydroxylgruppen
und 1 bis 10 Stickstoffatomen, wie z. B. Tris-hydroxymethylaminomethan,
Diäthanolamin und Diisopropanolamin. Die
aus einem 2,2-disubstituierten-2-Amino-1-alkanol mit 2 bis 3
Hydroxylgruppen und mit insgesamt 4 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen,
z. B. 2-Amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propandiol (auch als Trishydroxymethylaminomethan
bekannt) erhaltenen Produkte werden
bevorzugt. Andere Beispiele für die Hydroxylamine umfassen
2-Amino-2-methyl-1,3-propandiol, 2-Amino-2-äthyl-1,3-propandiol.
Die gepfropfte polymere Lösung kann gleich mit den Polyaminen,
Polyolen, Hydroxylaminen und deren Mischungen durch Zusammenmischen
und 10 Minuten bis 30 Stunden, vorzugsweise 10 Minuten
bis 10 Stunden, üblicherweise 15 Minuten bis 3 Stunden
langes Erhitzen auf eine Temperatur von 100°C bis
250°C umgesetzt werden. Vorzugsweise werden 0,01 bis 2,5 Mol,
besonders bevorzugt 0,5 bis 1,0 Mol polyfunktionelle Substanz,
z. B. Polyamin, Polyol oder Hydroxylamin pro Mol gepfropftes
Maleinsäureanhydrid verwendet. Die Reaktion von Diäthylentriamin
mit dem gepfropften Äthylen enthaltenden Polymeren
läuft in 15 Minuten oder weniger bei 170°C unter Stickstoff
ab.
Der erfindungsgemäße Pfropfschritt kann ohne Abbau der Kettenlänge
(Molekulargewicht) des Äthylen enthaltenden Polymeren
durchgeführt werden. Die Messung der Molekulargewichte und
der Abbau können durch Bestimmung der Verdickungswirksamkeit
des Polymeren bestimmt werden.
Die Verdickungswirksamkeit wird definiert als Verhältnis
der Gewichtsprozente eines Polyisobutylens (das als Öllösung
von Exxon Chemical Co. als Paratone N verkauft wird), das ein
Staudinger Molekulargewicht von 20 000 hat, die erforderlich
sind, um ein mit Lösungsmittel extrahiertes, neutrales,
mineralisches Schmieröl mit einer Viskosität von 32,0 Centistokes
bei 37,8°C, mit einem Viskositätsindex von 105 und
mit einem ASTM (American Society for Testing & Materials)
Fließpunkt von -17,8°C (Solvent 150 Neutral) auf eine Viskosität
von 12,4 Centistokes bei 98,9°C zu verdicken, zu den
Gewichtsprozenten eines Test-Copolymeren, die erforderlich
sind, um dasselbe Öl auf dieselbe Viskosität bei derselben
Temperatur zu verdicken. Die Verdickungswirksamkeit (TE)
steht in Beziehung zum n und ist eine viel bequemere praktische
Messung. Als grober Anhaltspunkt gilt, daß ein TE von
1,4 ungefähr einem n von 17 000 entspricht und ein TE von 2,86
ungefähr einem n von 60 000; die Polymerart beeinflußt diese
Beziehung.
Das Öl mit den gebundenen, gepfropften Maleinsäureanhydridgruppen
wird auch in die entsprechenden Derivate umgewandelt,
wenn es mit den polyfunktionellen Derivaten, z. B. Polyamin,
eingesetzt wird. Die Aufteilung zwischen dem gepfropften
Polymerderivat und dem gepfropften Ölderivat kann durch Dialyse
in Polymer- und Ölfraktionen und Infrarot- oder Stickstoffanalyse
der Fraktionen bestimmt werden.
Das Endprodukt enthält 0,001 bis 25, vorzugsweise 0,01 bis
10 Gew.-% Stickstoff und/oder Sauerstoff und hat ein n im
Bereich von 700 bis 500 000, vorzugsweise 700 bis 250 000.
Für die polymeren Additive mit höherem Molekulargewicht, d. h.
einem n von 10 000 bis 500 000, z. B. 10 000 bis
250 000 (geeignet für Anwendungen als Fließpunktverbesserer
und/oder zur Verbesserung des Viskositätsindex) liegt der
Stickstoff- und/oder Sauerstoffgehalt im Bereich von
0,001 bis 5 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 0,5 Gew.-%.
Für polymere Additive mit niedrigerem Molekulargewicht,
d. h. n ist kleiner als 10 000 (geeignet als Fließpunktverbesserer
und/oder Dispergierungsmittel) reicht der
Stickstoff- und/oder Sauerstoffgehalt von 0,001 bis
25 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise von 0,01 bis 8 Gew.-%. Die großen
Vorteile der vorliegenden Erfindung bestehen darin, daß kein
wesentlicher Abbau der Polymerkettenlänge während des Pfropfens
des Polymeren und der anschließenden Amidierung eintritt und
daß die Menge des Stickstoff enthaltenden Polymermaterials
offensichtlich sehr gut in dem während des Pfropfschritts
verwendeten Kohlenwasserstofflösungsmittel löslich ist.
Kleinere Mengen, z. B. 0,001 bis 49 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 0,001
bis 20 Gew.-% der öllöslichen Stickstoff und/oder Sauerstoff
enthaltenden erfindungsgemäßen Additivkonzentrate können mit
einer größeren Menge eines öligen Materials, wie z. B. einem
Schmieröl oder Kohlenwasserstoffbrennstoff gemischt werden.
Wenn die Additive in Schmierölpräparationen, z. B. Schmierölen
von Auto- oder Dieselkurbenwellengehäuse verwendet werden,
liegen die Additivkonzentrationen im Bereich von 0,01
bis 20 Gew.-%, z. B. 0,1 bis 15,0 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 0,25
bis 10 Gew.-% der gesamten Präparation. Die Schmieröle, denen
die erfindungsgemäßen Produkte zugemischt werden können,
schließen nicht nur vom Erdöl abgeleitete Kohlenwasserstofföle,
sondern auch synthetische Schmieröle, wie z. B. Ester von dibasischen
Säuren und komplexe durch Veresterung von monobasischen
Säuren hergestellte Ester, Polyglykole, dibasische
Säuren und Alkohole mit ein.
Diese polymeren Additive können in Brennstoffe, wie z. B.
Mitteldestillat-Brennstoffe, in Konzentrationen von
0,001 bis etwa 0,5 Gew.-% und mehr, vorzugsweise von
0,005 bis 0,2 Gew.-% der Gesamtpräparation eingebracht werden.
Diese polymeren Additive können den Brennstoffen sowohl dispergierende
Wirksamkeit verleihen als auch die Eigenschaft,
Verlackungen entgegenzuwirken.
Die Stickstoff und/oder Sauerstoff enthaltenen erfindungsgemäßen
Additive werden zur leichten Handhabung als
Konzentrat von z. B. 5 Gew.-% bis 49 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise
15 bis 49 Gew.-% in Öl, z. B. mineralischem Schmieröl,
hergestellt.
Die obigen Konzentrate können andere übliche Additive, wie
Farben, Fließpunktverbesserer, Antiverschleißmittel, Antioxidantien,
andere den Viskositätsindex verbessernde Mittel,
Dispergierungsmittel, enthalten.
Man verwendete ein Äthylen-Propylen-Copolymer, das durch das
Ziegler-Natta-Verfahren unter Verwendung eines H₂-moderierten
VOCl₃/Aluminiumsesquichlorid-Katalysators hergestellt wurde,
eine Kristallinität von weniger als 25% hatte, etwa 54 Gew.-%
Äthylen und 46 Gew.-% Propylen enthielt und eine Verdickungswirksamkeit
von 2,86 (n = 60 000) besaß. 3,79 l (3000 g)
einer 9 gew.-%igen Lösung dieses Äthylen-Propylen-Copolymeren
(was etwa 0,005 mol Copolymer äquivalent ist) in S 100 N
(Solvent 100 Neutral) neutralem Öl wurden unter Stickstoffüberlagerung
auf 180°C erhitzt. Zu dieser Lösung wurden unter
Rühren 11,25 g (0,375 Gew.-%, 0,115 mol) Maleinsäureanhydrid
und 2,7 g (0,09 Gew.-%) 2,5-Dimethyl-hex-3-in-2,5-bis-tert.-
butyl-peroxid gegeben. Nach etwa 5 Stunden bei 180°C wurde
mit Stickstoff 2 Stunden durchgeblasen, um alles nicht umgesetztes
Maleinsäureanhydrid zu entfernen. Zu diesem auf 150°C
gekühlten Reaktionsgemisch wurden 10 g (0,33 Gew.-%, 0,096 mol)
Diäthylentriamin zugegeben. Die Gew.-% beziehen sich alle auf
das Gewicht der ursprünglichen Öllösung. Die Reaktion wurde
3 Stunden bei 150°C durchgeführt, anschließend wurde bei
180°C 3 Stunden mit Stickstoff durchgeblasen. Dabei erhielt
man ein Stickstoff enthaltendes gepfropftes Copolymer mit
einer Verdickungswirksamkeit von 2,99, was zeigt, daß das
Molekulargewicht nicht kleiner geworden war, sondern statt
dessen etwas angestiegen war. Das Produkt wurde einer Infrarotanalyse
unterworfen, die zeigte, daß der für die Säureanhydridgruppe
charakteristische Absorptionspeak bei 1790 Micron
im wesentlichen verschwunden war und durch einen Amidpeak
bei 1710 Micron nach der Reaktion mit dem Polyamin ersetzt
war.
Die folgende Tabelle I beschreibt eine Anzahl von erfindungsgemäß
ausgeführten Versuchen. Die Reaktionen wurden im wesentlichen
wie in Beispiel 1 durchgeführt, mit Ausnahme von in
der Tabelle angegebenen Änderungen bei den Reaktionspartnern,
ihren Konzentrationen und den Reaktionsbedingungen; es wurde
dasselbe Peroxid wie in Beispiel 1 verwendet und das Copolymer
war nach demselben Verfahren hergestellt worden.
Zwei vollständig formulierte Schmierölmischungen wurden
hergestellt durch Mischen von 6,5 Gew.-% des Additivs von
Beispiel 1 oder 9,8 Gew.-% des Additivs von Beispiel 2 mit
jeweils 4,0 Gew.-% eines borierten, aschefreien Dispergierungsmittels
(40% aktiver Bestandteil), 0,9 Gew.-%
eines im Handel erhältlichen Zinkdialkyldithiophosphats als
Antiverschleißadditiv (70% aktiver Bestandteil), 1,0% eines
Konzentrats von basischem Magnesiumkohlenwasserstoffsulfonat
(Gesamtbasenzahl 400), 0,3 Gew.-% eines Rostinhibitors
(äthoxyliertes Alkylphenol) und 0,5 Gew.-% eines aschefreien
Antioxidans; der Rest der Formulierung war ein raffiniertes
Schmieröl-Grundmaterial. Das vollständig formulierte Schmiermittel
hatte eine Viskosität in dem Bereich SAE 10W-30.
Zum Vergleich wurden zwei ähnliche Mischungen mit derselben
Öl/Additiv Zusammenstellung wie oben hergestellt, indem
das erfindungsgemäße Additiv ersetzt wurde 1) durch 9,1 Gew.-%
eines Äthylen-Propylen-Copolymeren, das etwa 54 Gew.-% Äthylen
enthielt und eine Verdickungswirksamkeit von 1,4 hatte, wobei
die Testmischung C entstand und 2) durch 6,0 Gew.-% eines im
Handel erhältlichen Methacrylats als multifunktionelles
Dispergierungsmittel zur Verbesserung des Viskositätsindex
(etwa 45% aktiver Bestandteile), das als Acryloid 956® von
Röhm und Haas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, verkauft wird,
wobei die Testmischung D entstand.
Jede wie beschrieben hergestellte Mischung wurde dem
MS Sequence VC Engine Test unterworfen, der ein in der Autoindustrie
bekannter Test ist. Der Test wurde in einem Fordmotor
mit 4948,77 cm³ Hubraum entsprechend dem Verfahren
durchgeführt, wie es in der Publikation "Multicylinder Test
Sequences for Evaluating Automotive Engine Oils" (ASTM
Special Publication 315-E) beschrieben ist. Am Ende jeden
Tests werden verschiedene Teile des Motors auf einer Beurteilungsskala
eingestuft, in der 10 einen vollständig sauberen
Teil bedeutet und die kleineren Zahlen ein ansteigendes Maß
für die Bildung von Ablagerungen bedeuten. Die verschiedenen
Bewertungen werden dann addiert und auf der Grundlage von
10 als einer vollkommenen Beurteilung gemittelt. Die mit den
oben beschriebenen Mischungen erhaltenen Ergebnisse sind in
Tabelle 2 angegeben.
Die obigen Test zeigen, daß bei gleichem Gewicht die erfindungsgemäß
hergestellten Additive besser sind als ein im Handel
erhältliches multifunktionelles Mittel zur Verbesserung
des Viskositätsindex (Mischung D). Ein Vergleich der Beispiele
1 und 2 mit der Testmischung C zeigt, daß erfindungsgemäß
die Dispergierfähigkeit der allgemein verwendeten Äthylen-
Propylen-Copolymeren als Mittel zur Verbesserung des Viskositätsindex
signifikant verbessert wird.
Claims (9)
1. Öllösliches, Stickstoff und/oder Sauerstoff enthaltendes
Additivkonzentrat für Schmieröle und Kohlenwasserstoffbrennstoffe,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es hergestellt
worden ist durch Lösen von 5 bis 30 Gew.-% eines Polymeren
mit einem auf das Zahlenmittel bezogenen mittleren
Molekulargewicht von etwa 700 bis etwa 500 000, das 2
bis 98 Gew.-% Ethylen und 98 bis 2 Gew.-% wenigstens
eines anderen C₃- bis C₂₈-alpha-Olefins enthält, in
einem mineralischen Schmieröllösungsmittel, Erhitzen
dieser Lösung auf eine Temperatur von etwa 100°C bis
etwa 250°C, Zugabe von 0,01 bis 10 Gew.-%, bezogen auf
die Gesamtlösung, einer ethylenisch ungesättigten
Dicarbonsäure, welche wenigstens eine ethylenische
Bindung und wenigstens zwei Carbonsäure- oder Carbonsäureanhydridgruppen
oder eine polare Gruppe enthält,
welche durch Oxidation oder Hydrolyse in diese
Carboxylgruppen übergeführt werden kann, und von 0,005
bis 1%, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der Polymerlösung,
eines freie Radikale liefernden Starters mit einem
Siedepunkt von über 100°C in einem Gewichtsverhältnis
von Dicarbonsäure zu Starter von 1,0 : 1 bis 30 : 1 in
inerter Atmosphäre und Halten der Lösung für 0,1 bis 12
Stunden bei dieser Temperatur und anschließend Umsetzung
der Carboxylgruppen des gepfropften Polymers mit einer
polyfunktionellen Verbindung, die ausgewählt ist aus
- a) Polyaminen mit insgesamt 2 bis 60 Kohlenstoffatomen und 2 bis 12 Stickstoffatomen im Molekül, wobei diese Amine Hydroxy-, Alkoxy-, Amid- oder Imidazolingruppen enthalten können,
- b) Polyolen, enthaltend 2 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatome und 2 bis 10 Hydroxylgruppen, und
- c) primären und sekundären Hydroxylaminen, enthaltend 2 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatome, 1 bis 6 Hydroxygruppen und 1 bis 10 Stickstoffatome.
2. Additivkonzentrat nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß als Starter 2,5-Dimethyl-hex-3-in-2,5-bis-
tert.-butyl-peroxid
eingesetzt wird.
3. Additivkonzentrat nach einem der Ansprüche 1 oder 2,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Pfropftemperatur im Bereich
von 120°C bis 190°C, vorzugsweise 150°C bis 180°C,
insbesondere über 160°C liegt.
4. Additivkonzentrat nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß das Gewichtsverhältnis der
Carbonsäure zum Starter im Bereich von 2,0 : 1 bis 5,0 : 1,
vorzugsweise 2,0 : 1 bis 2,6 : 1 liegt.
5. Additivkonzentrat nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß durch die Lösung des Pfropfpolymers
ein inertes Gas bei ungefähr der Pfropftemperatur
etwa 1 bis 4 Stunden lang im Anschluß an den Pfropfschritt
geblasen wird.
6. Additivkonzentrat nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß als ungesättigte Carbonsäure
Maleinsäureanhydrid und als Polyamin Diäthylentriamin
oder N,N-Dimethylpropan-diamin eingesetzt wird.
7. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Stickstoff und/oder
Sauerstoff enthaltenden Additivkonzentrats nach Anspruch
1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß 5 bis 30 Gew.-% eines
Polymeren mit einem auf das Zahlenmittel bezogenen mittleren
Molekulargewicht von etwa 700 bis etwa 500 000,
das 2 bis 98 Gew.-% Ethylen und 98 bis 2 Gew.-%
wenigstens eines anderen C₃- bis C₂₈-alpha-Olefins enthält,
in einem mineralischen Schmieröllösungsmittel gelöst
werden, diese Lösung auf eine Temperatur von etwa
100°C bis etwa 250°C erhitzt wird, dann in inerter Atmosphäre
0,01 bis 10 Gew.-%, bezogen auf die Gesamtlösung,
einer ethylenisch ungesättigten Dicarbonsäure,
welche wenigstens eine ethylenische Bindung und
wenigstens zwei Carbonsäure- oder Carbonsäureanhydridgruppen
oder eine polare Gruppe enthält, welche durch
Oxidation oder Hydrolyse in diese Carboxylgruppen
übergeführt werden kann, und 0,005 bis 1%, bezogen auf
das Gesamtgewicht der Polymerlösung, eines freie
Radikale liefernden Starters mit einem Siedepunkt von
über 100°C in einem Gewichtsverhältnis von Dicarbonsäure
zu Starter von 1,0 : 1 bis 30 : 1 zugegeben werden und die
Lösung für 0,1 bis 12 Stunden bei dieser Temperatur
gehalten wird und anschließend die Carboxylgruppen des
gepfropften Polymers mit einer polyfunktionellen
Verbindung umgesetzt wird, die ausgewählt ist aus
- a) Polyaminen mit insgesamt 2 bis 60 Kohlenstoffatomen und 2 bis 12 Stickstoffatomen im Molekül, wobei diese Amine Hydroxy-, Alkoxy-, Amid- oder Imidazolingruppen enthalten können,
- b) Polyolen, enthaltend 2 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatome und 2 bis 10 Hydroxylgruppen, und
- c) primären und sekundären Hydroxyaminen, enthaltend 2 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatome, 1 bis 6 Hydroxygruppen und 1 bis 10 Stickstoffatome.
8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
vor der Umsetzung mit dem Polyamin, Polyol oder
Hydroxyamin die gepfropfte Polymerlösung mit einem
inerten Gas durchblasen wird, während die Lösung auf
einer Temperatur von etwa 100°C bis 250°C gehalten wird.
9. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 7 oder 8, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß der Starter ein Peroxid ist.
