Die Erfindung betrifft neuartige Phosphonate mit einem Gehalt mit behinderten, phenolischen Hydroxylgruppen, sowie ein Verfahren
zur Stabilisierung von organischen Stoffen, insbesondere Polymeren gegen oxidativen Abbau.
Die erfindungsgemässen Phosphonate entsprechen der allgemeinen

Aralkylgruppe darstellt, R1 eine Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl- oder Aralkylgruppe
bedeutet und η eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis K ist.
Dabei können R und Rf beispielsweise Alkylgruppen mit 1 bis
20 oder sogar 30 Kohlenstoffatomen, beispielsweise Methyl, Äthyl, Propyl, Isopropyl, Butyl, Isobutyl, sec.-Butyl, t- .
Butyl, t-Amyl, Amyl, Hexyl, Heptyl, Octyl, 2-Äthylhexyl, Isooctyl,
t-Octyl, Decyl, Dodecyl, Octadecyl, Eicosanyl, Tetracosyl,
Triacontyl, oder Cycloalkylreste mit 5 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen
oder darüber, beispielsweise Cyclopenta!., Cyclo-

oder Aralkylgruppen mit 7 bis 36 Kohlenstoffatomen oder

24-Phenyltetracosyl, 3°-pkenyltriacontyl darstellen. Zweckmassig
sind R und R1 beide Alkylgruppen, wobei vorzugsweise
mindestens eines von ihnen und insbesondere beide tertiäre Alkylgruppen darstellen. Beispiele für die erfindungsgemässen
Phosphonate sind:

Die erfindungsgemässen Phosphonate können nach einer der folgenden

Butyl, Äthyl, Isopropyl, Hexyl oder Octyl darstellt.
Es können beliebige herkömmliche alkalische Katalysatoren, beispielsweise
Natriumhydroxid, Kaliumhydroxid, Natriummethylat,
Natriumphenolat, Natriumhexylat, Kaliummetliylat verwendet werden.
Typische Ausgangsmaterialien für die Reaktion (2) sind Diphenyl-pentaerythrit-diphosphit, Dirnetliyl-pentasrythritdiphosphit,
Diäthyl-pentaerythrit-diphosphit, Dibutyl-pentaerythrit-diphosphit,
Diisooctyl-pentaerytiirit-dxphosphit·
Bei der Reaktion (1) kann R. eine Alfcylgruppe der für R_ genannten
Bedeutung sein. E^ kann jedoch keine Arylgruppe darstellen.
Sq können nach der Reaktion (1 ) Dimethyi-pentaerythritdiphosphit,
Diäthyl-pentaerythrit-diphosphit, Dibutyl-pentaerythrit-diphosphit,
Dibutyl-pentaerythrit-diphosphit, Diisopropyl-pentaerythrit-diphosph.it,
Dioctyl-pentaerythritdiphosphit verwendet werden.
Bei der Reaktion (3) können als tertiäres Amin Tripropylamin,
Tributylamin, Diäthylmethylaein, etc. verwendet werden. Wenn

bei der Reaktion (3) η = 1 ist, wird das Phosphonat als einziges
Produkt erhalten. ¥enn dagegen bei der Reaktion (3) η 2, 3 oder k ist, kann jedes gebildete Phosphit durch. Zugabe
einer kleinen Menge Natriumiodid oder Kaliumiodid (beispielsweise 1 bis 10 Mol $ des Dichlor-pentaerythritdiphosphit)
in das Phosphonat überführt werden.
Zur Herstellung der behinderten Phenolphosphonate können
beispielsweise die folgenden behinderten Phenole verwendet werden:

¥enn gemischte Verbindungen nach Art der" Verbindung 1 in
Tabelle I gewünscht werden, kann eine Mischung von Phenolen als Ausgangsprodukt benutzt werden.
Die erfindungsgemässen, behinderten Phenolphosphonate eignen
sich als phenolische Oxidationshemmer und können daher zur Stabilisation von normalerweise einer oxidativen Beeinträchtigung
unterliegenden organischen Materialien eingesetzt werden· Das oxidationshemmende phenolische Phosphonat wird dabei
in einer Menge von O,oo5 bis 10, vorzugsweise 0,1 bis
5 Gewichtsteilen pro 100 Gewichtsteile des zu stabilisierenden
Polymeren oder sonstigen organischen Materials verwendet. Die erfindungsgemässen Phosphonate sind für zahlreiche verschiedene
Arten fester Polymerer geeignet. So können sie beispielsweise für Kunststoffe aus Vinylidenverbindungen, wie
Vinylchlorid, Vinylidenchlorid, Vinylchloracetat, Chlorstyrol,
Vinylbromid und Chlorbutadien verwendet werden. Derartige Vinyl idenverb indungen können für sich allein oder in
Mischung miteinander oder mit halogenfreien Vinylidenverbindungen polymerisiert werden. Zu den für eine Copolymerisation
mit den halogenhaltigen Vinylidenverbindungen wie beispielsweise
Vinylchlorid geeigneten, halogenfreien Materialien gehören Vinylester von Carbonsäuren, beispielsweise Vinylacetat,
Vinylpropionat, Vinylbutyrat und Vinylbenzoat, Ester
ungesättigter Säuren, beispielsweise Alkyl— und Alkenylacrylate
wie Methylacrylat, Äthylacrylat, Propylacrylat,

Butylacrylat und Allylacrylat, ferner die entsprechenden Methacrylate, beispielsweise Methylmethacrylat und Butylmethacrylat,
aromatische Vinylverbindungen, beispielsweise Styrol, p-Äthylstyrol, Divinylbenzol, Vinylnaphthalin,
OC-Methylstyrol, p-Methylstyrol, Diene, wie Butadien und
Isopren, ungesättigte Amide, wie Acrylamid, Methacrylamid und Acrylanilid sowie die Ester von Oi, ß-ungesättigten
Carbonsäuren, beispielsweise die Methyl-, Äthyl-, Propyl-, Butyl-, Amyl-, Hexyl-, Heptyl-, Octyl-, Allyl-, Methallyl-
und Phenylester von Maleinsäure, Crotonsäure, Itaconsäure
und Fumarsäure und dergleichen. Spezielle Beispiele solcher Ester sind Di äthylmal eat, Dibutylmaleat und Dibutylf umarat.
Zu den bevorzugten, erfindungsgemäss behandelten Materialien gehören Copolymere, in denen mindestens 50 $ des Copolymeren
aus einer halogenhaltigen Vinylidenverbindung, wie beispielsweise Vinylchlorid besteht.
Die erfind-ungsgemässen Oxidationshemmer oder Stabilisatoren
sind auch beim innigen Vennischen mit halogenhaltigen Kunststoffen
wirksam, in denen ein Teil oder die Gesamtmenge des eingeführten Halogens in einen vorgebildeten Kunststoff eingeführt
wird, beispielsweise chloriertes Polyvinylacetat, chloriertes Polystyrol, chloriertes Polyäthylen, chloriertes
Polyvinylchlorid, chlorierte natürliche oder synthetische Kautschukjde und Kautschukhydrochloride.
Zu den typischen Beispielen für die Copolymeren gehören ein
Vinyl Chlorid-Vinylacetat-Copolymer (Gewichts verhältnis
95:5 oder 87:13), ein Vinyl chlorid-Vinylacetat-Maleinsäureanhydrid-Terpolymer
(Gewichtsverhältnis 86:13:1), ein Vinylchlorid-
Vinylidenchlorid-Copolymer (Gewichtsverhältnis 95:5), ein Vinylchlorid-Diäthylfumarat-Copolymer (Gewichtsverhältnis 95:5) und ein Vinylchlorid-Trichloräthylen-Copolymer
(Gewichtsverhältnis 95:5)·
Der Kunststoff, beispielsweise Polyvinylchlorid, kann weichgemacht
oder nicht weiphgeinacht sein. Als Weichmacher können

Die erfindungsgemässen Oxidationshemmer sind besonders wirksam
bei festen, ungesättigten Kohlenwasserstoff polymeren,
wie Polyäthylen, Polypropylen, Xthylen-Propylen-Copolymeren
{Gewichtsverhältnis beispielsweise 50:50, 80:20 oder 20:80),
Copolymeren aus Äthylen und einer geringeren Menge eines

Als EPDM-Kautschuk können zahlreiche der im Handel befindlichen
Typen verwendet werden. EPDM-Kautschuk enthält normalerweise
30 bis 70, vorzugsweise 50 bis 60 Mol $ Äthylen,

65 bis 20, vorzugsweise 35 bis 45 Mol $ Propylen und 1 bis
15* vorzugsweise 3 bis 5 Mol 0Js nichtkonjugiertes Polyolefin.
Normalerweise liegt der Gehalt an Polyolefin nicht über 10 Mol °/o. Äthylen und Prop3rlen können je 5 bis 95 Mol ^ der
Mischung ausmachen.
Die in der Beschreibung und den Ansprüe&eii verwendete Bezeichnung

Propylen und 4 Mol io 5-Methylen-2-nisrboraen, sowie ein unter
der Bezeichnung "Nordel" im Handel befindliches Terpolymeres
aus 55 Mol io Äthylen, 40 Mol "ja Propylen und 5 Mol io Hexadien-1,4.
Ein weiteres geeignetes Terpolymer ist das unter der Bezeichnung "Dutrel" im Handel befindliche Produkt mit
einem Gehalt von 50 Mol io Äthylen, 47 Mol $>
Propylen und 3 Mol io 1,5-Cyclooctadien.
Beispiele für EPDM-Kautschukke sind in den USA-Patentschriften

wird vorzugsweise ein Alkanol mit 10 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen
benutzt. Andere in der USA-Patentschrift 2 519 744
beschriebene Ester von ß-Thiocarboxylsäuren können ebenfalls
benutzt werden.
Weiterhin können in die Formulierung des Monoolefin-Polymeren
0,o1 bis 10 °/ot vorzugsweise 0,1 bis 5 9^ eines Metallsalz-Stabilisators
eingebracht werden. Beispiele für derartige Salze sind Calciumstearat, Calcium-2-äthylhexoat, Calciumoctoat,
Calciumoleat, CaIciumrieinöleat, Calciummyristat,
Calciumpalmitat, Calciumlaurat, Bariumlaurat, Bariumstearat,
Magnesiumstearat, Zinkstearat, Cadmiumlaurat, Cadmiumoctoat,
Cadmiumstearat und die anderen vorstehend beschriebenen
mehrwertigen Metallsalze von Fettsäuren.
Es können auch herkömmliche phenolxsche Oxidationshemmer
in einer Menge von 0,o1 bis 10 fof vorzugsweise 0,1 bis 5 °/°
verwendet werden. Beispiele für derartige Phenole sind 2,6-Di-t-butyl-p-cresol (lonol), butyliertes Hydroxyanisol,
Propylgallat, 4,4'-Thio-bis-(6-t-butyl-m-cresol), 4,4'-Cyclohexyliden-diphenol,

In die Kohlenwasserstoff polymeren können auch 0,o1 bis 5 c/>
Epoxyverbindungen eingebracht werden. Beispiele derartiger
Epoxyverbindungen umfassen epoxidiertes Sojabohnenöl,
epoxidiertes Specköl, epoxidiertes Olivenöl, epoxidiertes
Leinsaatöl, epoxidiertes Rizinusöl, epoxidiertes Erdnussöl, epoxidiertes Maisöl, epoxidiertes Tungöl, epoxidiertes Baumwollsaatöl,
Epichlorhydrin-Bisphenol Α-Harze (Epichlorhydr in-Diphenyl ο lprop an-Harze) , Phenoxy-propylenoxid,
Butoxy-propylenoxid, epoxidiertes Neopentylen-oleat,
Glycidylepoxystearat, epoxidierte ol-Olefine, epoxidiertes
Glycidyl-soj at, Dicyclopentadien-dioxid, epoxidiertes Butyltallat,
Styroloxid, Dipentendioxid, Glycidol, Vinylcyclohexendioxid, Resorcin-glycidyläther, 1,5~Dihydroxynaphthalinglycidyläther,

Die erfindungsgemässen phenolischen Phosphonate können auch
verwendet werden zur Stabilisierung von Schmierölen, beispielsweise aliphatischen Estern, wie Di-(2-äthylhexyl)-azelat,
Pentaerythrit-tetracaproat und dergleichen, tierischen
und pflanzlichen Ölen, beispielsweise Bsaatöl,
Fett, Talg, Schweinespeck, Erdnussöl, Dorschleberöl, Rizinusöl, Palmöl, Maisöl, Baumwollsaatöl und dergleichen,
Kohlenwasserstoff-Materialien, wie beispielsweise Benzin, natürlichem und synthetischem Dieselöl, Mineralöl, Heizöl,
trocknendem Öl, Schneidflüssigkeiten, Paraffin, Wachsen, Harzen und dergleichen, Fettsäuren, wie Seifen und dergleichen.
Der Stabilisator kann in solchen Fällen auch in einer Menge, von 0,oo5 bis 10 °/o des zu stabilisierenden Materials verwendet
werden.
Soweit nichts Gegenteiliges angegeben ist, beziehen sieh alle Teile und Prozentsätze auf das Gewicht.

Zur Herstellung -von 3,9-Di(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-3
, 9-dioxo-2,4,8,10,3» 9- tetraoxadiphospha-spiro {.5 t 5 )undecan
wurden 256 g (i Mol) 3,9-D±metlioxy-2,4-8-10-tetraoxa-3»9~diphospha-spiro(5»5)tmdeean
in einem Liter Toluol gelöst und 509 g (2 Mol) 3,5-Di-t-butyl-4-hydroxybenzylchlorid in
5OO ml Heptan zugegeben. Die Mischung wurde langsam auf
100 bis 110 C erhitzt, wobei man das Methylchlbriä. abdestillieren
liess. Nach drei Stunden bei 100 C hatte die Entwicklung
von Methylchlorid aufgehört und sich ein schwerer Niederschlag abgeschieden« Die Mischung wurde abgekühlt und
filtriert. Der Filterkuchen wurde mit Toluol gewaschen. Es wurden 6OO g (905ε) der eingangs genannten Verbindung als
farbloser, kristalliner, hochschmelzender Feststoff erhalten.
Es wurden 166 g (1 Mol) 2(3,5-Dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)
äthylalkohol mit 128 g (o,5 Mol) 3t9-Dimethoxy-2,4,8,10,3,9-tetraoxadiphospha-spiro(5f5)undecan
vermischt. Anschliessend wurden 5 g Natriummethylat zugegeben und die Mischung langsam
auf 150 erhitzt. Bei 100 C begann Methanol abzudestillieren.
In zwei Stunden wurden 0,95 Mol Methanol aufgefangen. Dann wurden 5 S Natrium j odid zugegeben und die Mischung zehn
Stunden auf 15Ο C erhitzt. Nach diesem Zeitraum zeigte ein
Test mit Jod die Abwesenheit von dreiwertigem Phosphor. Das
erhaltene Produkt war ein farbloser Feststoff, der aus Toluol umkristallisiert wurde. Das Infrarotspektrum und die Phosphoranalyse
entsprachen der "Verbindung 3t9-Di-2(3»5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)äthyl-3,9-dioxo-2,4,8,10f3,9-tetraoxadiphosphaspiro-(5
f 5)-undecan.
Zur Herstellung von 3»9-Di(2-hydroxy-3-t-butyl-5-methylbenzyl)-
39 S^dioxo-2,4,8,10,3,9-tetraoxadiphospha-spiro-(5»5)-undecan
wurden 256 g (1 Mol) 3,9-Dichloro-2,4,8,10,3,9-tetraoxadiph.0sp2i&~-spiro-(5,5)Mundecan
in einem Liter Taluol zu

384 g (2 Mol) 2-Hydroxy-3-t-butyl-5-methyl-benzylalkbhol
gelöst in 500 ml Toluol zugegeben. Anschliessend wurden 200 g (2,o5 Mol) Triäthylamin in die Benzylalkohollösung
eingebracht. Die Chloridlösung wurde unter Kühlung zu der das Amin und den Alkohol enthaltenden Lösung zugegeben.
Nach beendeter Zugabe wurde die Mischung auf 80 C erhitzt und heiss vom Aminhydrοchlorid abfiltriert. Nach dem Abkühlen
wurden 520 g (92 $)) eines farblosen, kristallinen
Feststoffes erhalten. Die Phosphoranalyse und das Infrarotspektrum
bestätigten, dass es sich um die eingangs genannte Verbindung handelte.
Unstabilisiertes Polypropylenpulver (Hercules Profax 65OI)
wurde zur Stabilisierung mit 0,5 % der Verbindung gemäss Beispiel 1 innig vermischt. Das Vermischen kann auf beliebige
geeignete Weise, beispielsweise in einem Banbury-Mischer erfolgen. Die Stabilität des erhaltenen Produktes
wurde nach herkömmlichen Verfahren unter Verwendung des Ofenalterungstestes und des Fadeometer-Testes gemäss der
USA-Pat ent schrift 3 T\k 300, Spalte 5, Zeieln 23 bis 48
getestet.
Es wurden 100 Gewichtsteile eines unstabilisierten Polypropylenpulvers
(Hercules Powder 65OI) mit 0,2 Gewichtsteilen der Verbindung gemäss Beispiel 2 und 0,5 Gewicht st eilen
Dilauryl-thiodipropionat zu einem stabilisierten Polypropylen vermischt.
Die erf indungsgemässen, phenolischen Phosphonate wirken auch
als flamm- und feuerhemmende Mittel für feste Kohlenwasserstoffpolymere,
wie Polyäthylen, Polypropylen, Polyisopren, Butadien-Styrol-Copolymere, EPDM-Polymere, Äthylen-Propylen-Copolymere,
etc.

Claims (10)
- PATENTANS PRUCHEin der R ein Wasserstoffatom oder eine Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl- oder Aralkylgruppe darstellt, Rr eine Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl- oder Aralkylgruppe bedeutet und η eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis h ist.
- 2.) Phosphonat nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass R und/oder R1 jeweils ein Wasserstoffatom, eine Alkylgruppe mit 1 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatomen, eine Cycloalkylgruppe mit 5 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen oder eine Aralkylgruppe mit 7 t>is 36 Kohlenstoffatomen darstellen.
- 3.) Phosphonat nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass R kein Wasserstoffatom darstellt.
- 4.) Phosphonat nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass R und/oder R' eine Alkylgruppe mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen darstellen.
- 5.) Phosphonat nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis k, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass R eine t-Butylgruppe darstellt.
- 6.) Phosphonat nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass Rf eine t-Butylgruppe darstellt.409844/0998 ..,
