Die Erfindung betrifft neue Metallderivate von 3,5-Di-tert.·
butyl-4-hydroxyphenylpropionsäuren, die als Stabilisatoren
für organische Materialien, die der oxydativen, thermischen und aktiriischen Zersetzung unterliegen, wertvoll
sind.
Werden die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen in organische Materialien entweder allein oder zusammen mit anderen
Stabilisatoren oder synergistischen Stoffen eingearbeitet, so werden die organischen Materialien gegen oxydative,
thermische und aktinische Zersetzung geschützt.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen werden durch die folgende Formel I

η einen Wert von 1 bis 3 besitzt, wobei der Wert von η der verfügbaren Wertigkeit des Metalls M entspricht.
Diese Verbindungen können in organische Materialien während der üblichen Verarbeitungs- bzw. Herstellungsverfahren
eingearbeitet werden, beispielsweise indem man heiß vermahlt, die Zusammensetzung dann extrudiert, preßt,
auf Walzen oder ähnlichen Vorrichtungen zu Filmen, Fasern, Filamenten, Hohlkügelchen u.' ä. verformt. Die wärmestabilisierenden
Eigenschaften dieser Verbindungen bedingen, daß die organischen Materialien vorteilhaft gegen Zersetzung während solcher Verarbeitungsverfahren bei den
hohen Temperaturen, die man im allgemeinen dabei verwendet, stabilisiert werden.
Die Metallderivate der erfindungsgemäßen Alkylhydroxyphenylpropionsäure
sind wertvoll als Stabilisatoren organischer Materialien, die üblicherweise der oxydativen
und aktinischen Zersetzung unterliegen. Solche organischen Materialien umfassen synthetische organische polymere
Verbindungen wie Vinylharze, die bei der Polymerisation von Vinylhalogeniden oder bei der Mischpolymerisation
von Vinylhalogeniden mit ungesättigten Aldehyden und ungesättigten Kohlenwasserstoffen wie Butadienen und
Styrol gebildet werden; Poly- o<-olefine wie Polyäthylen,
Polypropylen, Polybutylen, Polyisopren u.a. einschließlich der Mischpolymerisate von Poly- OC-olefinen; Polyurethane
und Polyamide wie Polyhexamethylenadipinsäureamid

und Polycaprolactam; Polyester wie Polyäthylenterephthalate;
Polycarbonate; Polyacetale; Polystyrol; Polyäthylenoxyd.; und Mischpolymerisate wie solche aus hoch schlagfestem
Polystyrol, das Mischpolymerisate aus Butadien und Styrol enthält, und solche, die durch Mischpolymerisation
von Acrylnitril, Butadien und/oder Styrol gebildet werden.
Andere Materialien, die mit den erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen stabilisiert werden können, umfassen Schmieröle,
die sich von aliphatischen Estern ableiten wie beispielsweise von Di-(2-äthylen)-azelat, Pentaerythrit-tetracaproat
u.a.; Öle tierischen und pflanzlichen Ursprungs, beispielsweise Leinsamenöl, Fett, Talg, Schweineschmalz,
Erdnußöl, Dorschlebertran, Rizinusöl, Palmöl, Maisöl, Baumwollsamenöl u.a.; Kohlenwasserstoffmaterialien wie
Gasolin, Mineralöl, Brennöl, trocknende Öle, Schneidfluids, Wachse, Harze u.a., Salze von Fettsäuren wie
Seifen u.a.
Bei der vorliegenden Erfindung ist es eine wichtige Tatsache, daß nicht alle Metallsalze in ihrer Wirkung, spezifische
Substrate zu stabilisieren, gleich wirksam sind. Die Mangan- und Kupfersalze sind bei Polyamiden am wirksamsten,
und die Lithiumsalze sind am wirksamsten für Kautschuklatex und koagulierten Kautschuk, der daraus stammt.
Im allgemeinen werden einer oder mehrere der erfindungsgemäßen Stabilisatoren in Gesamtmengen von ungefähr
0,005 bis ungefähr 5 Gew.%, bezogen auf die Zusammensetzung,
die stabilisiert werden soll, verwendet. Ein besonders bevorzugter Bereich der erfindungsgemäßen Stabilisatoren
beträgt von ungefähr 0,05 bis ungefähr 2%. Der bevorzugte Bereich ist besonders wirksam bei Polyolefinen
wie bei Polypropylen.

Die'Stabilisatoren, die bei der vorliegenden Erfindung
verwendet werden können, können ebenfalls zusammen mit anderen Stabilisatoren oder Zusatzstoffen eingesetzt
werden. Besonders nützliche Costabilisatoren sind Dilauryl-ß-thiodipropionat und Distearyl-ß-thiodipropionat.
In der folgenden Formel sind Costabilisatoren dargestellt, die in bestimmten Fällen zusammen mit den erfindungsgemäßen
Stabilisatoren sehr wertvoll sind.

In der Formel TI bedeutet R eine Alkylgruppe mit 6 bis 24 Kohlenstoffatomen und η eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 6.
Die obigen Costabilisatoren werden in Mengen von 0,01 bis 2 Gew.%, bezogen auf das organische Material, und
vorzugsweise in Mengen von 0,1 bis 1 Gew.^ verwendet.
Andere Antioxydantien, Mittel gegen Ozon, thermische
Stabilisatoren, ultraviolettes Licht absorbierende Stoffe, Färbematerialien, Farbstoffe, Pigmente, Metallchelatbildende
Mittel usw. können in den Zusammensetzungen zusammen mit den erfindungsgemäßen Stabilisatoren
verwendet werden.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen per se können hergestellt werden, indem man 3,5-Di-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenylpropionsäure
mit einer reaktiven Form des Metalls oder einem Metallkomplex, beispielweise Lithiumhydroxyd,
behandelt. Alternativ und vorzugsweise im Falle der Metallkomplexe und anderer Metalle außer Lithium verwendet
man eine Doppelzursetzung. So wird beispielsweise ein

entsprechendes Natrium'.. mi ί. Zinkchloriä bahandelt.
Auf ähnliche V/eise erhält man bei der Verwendung anderer
.Halogenide wie Aluminiumchlorid und ähnlichen Verbindungen
das entsprechende Metallderivat.
Die als Ausgangsmaterial verwendete Alk'/!hydroxyphenyl propionsäure
wird in der US-Patentschrift 3 330 850 beschrieben. Einige der Verfahren, die bei den Synthesen
der Säure verwendet werden, umfassen die Umsetzung von Alkylhydroxyphenylalkylhalogeniden mit Alkalimetallcyaniden,
wobei man Alkylhydroxyphenylalkylnitrile erhält, die anschließend zu den Säuren hydrolysiert werden.
Die niedrigen Alkylester dieser Alkylhydroxyphenylpropionsäure, die durch Umsetzung von Alkalimetallsalzen
eines alkylierten Phenols mit Methylacrylat oder mit Estern von Halogenalkancarbonsäuren hergestellt
werden, können mit einer starken Base wie Natriumhydroxyd hydrolysiert werden, wobei man das Natriumsalz der entsprechenden
Säure erhält. Das Ifatriumsalz kann in die freie Säure durch bekannte Verfahren, beispielsweise
durch Ansäuern mit einer Mineralsäure, überführt werden oder es kann direkt zur Herstellung anderer Metallderivate,
wie zuvor erwähnt, verwendet werden.
Die folgenden Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung, ohne sie jedoch zu beschränken. Alle Teile sind als Gewichtsteile
angegeben, wenn sie nicht als Volumenteile bezeichnet werden, und die Prozent (%) sind durch das Gewicht ausgedrückt.

Diese Verbindung ist besonders nützlich, um Kautschuk zu stabilisieren, und sie kann mit Kautschuk verarbeitet
werden, indem man sie zu dem Kautschulilatex zufügt.
hydroxyphenyl)-propionsäure in 80 Vol.Teilen Methylalkohol
enthält, wird mit einer Lösung behandelt, die hergestellt wird, indem man 8 Teile Natriumhydroxyd in
ungefähr 20 Vol.Teilen Methylalkohol löst. Der Methylalkohol wird entfernt, das Produkt wird in einer Benzol/
Äthanol-Lösung gelöst, und die Lösung wird im Vakuum bis
zur beginnenden Kristallisation eingeengt und bei der beginnenden Kristallisation fügt man Hexan hinzu. Das
Produkt wird abfiltriert, getrocknet und zeigt einen Fp. von > 3000C.
Kupfer~3-(3'»5'-di-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat
Zu einer Lösung aus 9,01 Teilen Natrium-3-(3!,5'-ditert.
-butyl-41-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat in 380 ml VJasser
fugt man unter Rühren bei Zimmertemperatur eine Lösung,
die 6,29 Teile Kupfersulfatpentahydrat in 150 ml V/asser
enthält, hinzu. Das Produkt, das ausfällt, wird abfiltriert
und mit Wasser gewaschen und getrocknet. Nach dem Trocknen erhält man 14,9 Teile (96,5%) des Produkts.

Berechnet: Cu 10,28%
Gefunden : 10,1
Diese Verbindung ist besonders wirksam,um Polyamidzusammensetzungen,
insbesondere Polyamide wie Nylon 66,zu stabilisieren, wenn sie allein mit einem Jodidsalz verwendet
wird.
Mangan-3-(3',5'-di-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat
Gemäß dem in Beispiel 4 beschriebenen Verfahren erhält man das oben erwähnte Produkt in 73,5%iger Ausbeute, wenn man

anstelle des Kupfersulfats 4,95 Teile Manganchloridtetrahydrat
verwendet.

Diese Verbindung ist besonders wirksam als Lichtstabilisator für Nylon 66 und andere Polyamide.
Aluminium-tris-/~3-(3', 5'-di-tert.-butyl-4'-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat_7
Man verwendete als Reaktionsapparatur einen 500 ml-Dreihalskolben, der mit einem Hirshberg-Rührer,
einem Stickstoffeinlaßrohr und einem y-Rohr ausgerüstet war. Das letztere enthielt ein Thermometer und einen
Soxhlet-Extraktor. In der Hülse des Soxhlets befanden sich 6,12 g Aluminiumisopropylat. 25,1 S 3-(3',51-Di-tert.-butyl-4'-hydroxyphenyl)-propionsäure
wurden in 300 ml Pyridin gelöst, in den Kolben gegeben,
erwärmt und über Nacht unter
Rühren am Rückfluß erhitzt, wobei man kontinuierlich mit N2 spülte. Das Lösungsmittel strömte dabei kontinuierlich
über die Hülse und extrahierte das Aluminiumisopropylat und transportierte es in den Reaktionskolben
zurück. Mach ungefähr 16 Stunden zeigten sich in dem Reaktionskolben Zeichen von einem Niederschlag. Das
Pyridin wurde im Vakuum abgestreift, dabei erhielt man 34,5 g eines Rückstands. Der Rückstand wurde aus Benzol
(150 ml) und Heptan (750 ml) umkristallisiert. Man erhielt einen gummiartigen Feststoff, der nach dem Trocknen
auf Gewichtskonstanz bei 125°/0,1 mm 2,45 g wog; Fp. bis 3100C, Molekulargewicht 859,15.

Diese Verbindung ist besonders wirksam, um Polypropylen zu stabilisieren.
Das erfindungsgemäße Lithiumsalz wurde bei 1820C mit
Polypropylen vermählen, wobei man so viel verwendete, daß man eine 0,5%ige Konzentration erhielt. Ebenfalls
mit dem Polypropylen und dem Salz wurden O,5/o Dilaurylthiodipropionat
vermischt. Platten mit einer Dicke von 0,65 mm wurden bei 218°C geformt und bei 1490C im Ofen
gealtert, und dann wurde die Zeit in Stunden bis zur Versprödung dieser Proben bestimmt.
Lithium-3-(3', 5'-di-tert.-
butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat 295
Polypropylen, das keinen Stabilisator enthielt, versagte nach 3 Stunden, und Polypropylen, das nur Dilaurylthiodipropionat
enthielt, versagte nach 180 Stunden.
Eine Zusammensetzung, die lineares Polyäthylen und 1,0 Gew.$Zink-3-(3',5'-di-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat
enthielt, wird hergestellt. Die Zusammensetzung wird zu Zugstäben verformt, die bei 1200C in einen Ofen
mit umströmender Luft gegeben werden. Im Gegensatz zu solchen, die aus nicht-stabilisiertem linearem Polyäthylen
hergestellt waren, zeigten die Zugstäbe, die aus der erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzung hergestellt waren,
ihre Zugfestigkeit für eine wesentlich längere Zeit.
Pellets (500 g) aus nicht-stabilisiertem Nylon 6,6 (Zytel
101, DuPont) werden in eine Mischvorrichtung gegeben. Unter

Vermischen fügt man langsam zu den Nylonpellets 2,5 g (0,590 Kupfer-3-(3',5Ldi-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat
und 0,7848 g Kaliumjodid, gelöst in 35 ecm Isopropanol. Die stabilisierten Pellets werden
bei 800C und <1 mm während 4 Stunden getrocknet.
Die Polyamidformulierung wird bei 315°C durch eine
0,6 cm (1/4 inch)-Form zu einem Stab extrudiert, der in Wasr>er gekühlt und in Pellets zerkleinert wird. Ein 1 ,9cm
(3/4 inch) Brabender-Extruder, der mit einer Nylonschnecke ausgerüstet ist, wird verwendet, und die Pellets werden
bei 800C und <1 mm während 4 Stunden getrocknet.
Die getrockneten Pellets werden zu 12,7 x 12,7 x 0,0127 cm (5 inch χ 5 inch χ 0,005 inch) Filme bei 290°C und einem
Druck von 24,6 kg/cm (350 psi) während 3 Minuten in einer vierteiligen Fensterrahmenform (four-cavity window frame
mold) verformt. Die Form wird schnell in eine wasserge-
2 kühlte Presse gegeben und bei 24,6 kg/cm (350 psi)
während 2 bis 3 Minuten gehalten.
Proben (2,2 g) von unter Druck verformten Nylon 6,6-Filmen
wurden in einem Rotationsofen mit zirkulierender Luft bei 15O0C gealtert.
Die Wirkung der Stabilisatoren wird bestimmt, indem man die Retention der spezifischen Viskosität der ofengealterten
Proben in 11%iger Ameisensäure-Lösung bestimmt.
Die stabilisierte Polyamidzusammensetzung zeigte eine bessere Retention der Viskosität nach dem Ofenaltern,
verglichen mit einem nicht-stabilisierten Polyamid.
Eine stabilisierte Polyamidzusammensetzung wird auf ähnliche Weise wie oben hergestellt, wobei man das folgende Metallsalz
verwendet:

0,5% Mangan-3-(3',5'-di-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionat.
Belichtet man in einem Fadeometer die stabilisierte Zusammensetzung
mit Licht, das von einem Kohlebogen ausgestrahlt wird, so stellt man fest, daß . sie wesentlich stabiler
ist als eine nicht-stabilisierte Zusammensetzung.
Das erfindungsgemäße Zinksalz wurde mit Polypropylen bei 1820C und einer Konzentration von 0,5% vermählen. Ebenfalls
wurden 0,5% Dilaurylthiodipropionat mit dem Polypropylen und dem Hetallsalz vermischt. Platten mit einer
Dicke von 0,635 mm (25 mil) wurden bei 218°C geformt und
in einem Fadeometer mit dem Licht, das von einem Kohlenbogen ausgestrahlt wurde, bestrahlt, und dann wurde die
Zeit in Stunden bis zur Versprödung festgestellt.

- Patentansprücheworin M ein Metall wie Aluminium, Mangan, Kupfer, Zink, Lithium und Zinn bedeutet und η einen Viert von 1 bis 3 besitzt, wobei der Wert von η der gleiche ist v/ie die verfügbare Wertigkeit von M.2. Verbindung gemäß Anspruch 1, worin M Mangan bedeutet, 3· Verbindung gemäß Anspruch 1, worin M Kupfer bedeutet, 4. Verbindung gemäß Anspruch 1, worin M Zink bedeutet.5· Verbindung gemäß Anspruch 1, worin M Lithium bedeutet .Verbindung gemäß Anspruch 1, worin M Zinn bedeutet.7· Verbindung gemäß Anspruch 1, worin M Aluminium bedeutet.8.
