Description
Der Viskositätsindex (VI) von Schmierstoffen auf Mineralölbasis wird herkömmlich durch Einverleibung
hochmolekularer, polymerer Zusatzstoffe, wie Polymethacrylsäureester, eingestellt. Anscheinend wegen
ihres hohen Molekulargewichts sind solche Zusatzstoffe jedoch empfindlich gegenüber thermischem oder
oxidativem Abbau, insbesondere unter dem Einfluß der bei der Verwendung erfolgenden Scherwirkung.
So sind auch Copolymere als Yerbesserungsmittel beschrieben worden, bei denen die eingesetzten
monomeren Bausteine statistisch über die Polymerkette verteilt sind (sogenannte »Random«-Polymere). Nach
der US-PS 27 98 853 können solche Copolymere vor dem Einsatz als Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer auch
hydriert werden. Zum Beispiel statistische Copolymere aus Styrol und Butadien, die in Gegenwart von Na als
Katalysator in Dioxan hergestellt worden sind.
Versuche mit solchen hydrierten statistischen Copolymeren haben jedoch gezeigt daß zur Herstellung eines
Schmieröls der Spezifikation lOW-50 relativ große
Mengen des Zusatzstoffes (Polymerkonzentration mehr als 20 Gewichtsprozent) benötigt werden, um einen
brauchbaren VI von etwa 140 einzustellen.
Überraschenderweise wurde nun gefunden, daß es bei Einsatz von in bestimmter Weise aufgebauten Block-Copolymerisaten
als VI-Verbesserer gelingt, große Wirkungen bezüglich der Verbesserung des VI mit nur
sehr geringen Additivmengen zu erzielen.
Aufgabe der Erfindung war es daher. Mineralschmieröle
zur Verfügung zu stellen, welche VI-Verbesserer enthalten, die eine hervorragende Beständigkeit gegenüber
der Scherwirkung, Oxidation und thermischen Beanspruchung aufweisen und mit dem Basisöl gut
verträglich sind. Diese Aufgabe wird durch die Erfindung gelöst
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist somit ein Mineralschmieröl mit einem Gehalt an einem Viskositätsindexverbesserer
in Forin eines Copolymers, welches dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß es als Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer
ein Blockcopolymeres der allgemeinen Formel
A-B
enthält, in der A einen Block aus Polystyrol, zumindest
teilweise hydriertem Polystyrol oder Polyvinylcyclohexan darstellt wobei der Block ein Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht
von 5000 bis 50 000, vorzugsweise von 9000 bis 35 000. aufweist, und in der B einen Block aus einem
Ä-Monoolefinpolymer, einem Polymer eines konjugierten Diens oder einem Hydrierungsprodukt eines
j 3 solchen Polymers darstellt, in welchem zumindest 50%
der ursprünglich vorhandenen Doppelbindungen hydriert worden sind, wobei der Block ein Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von 10 000 bis 1 000 000, vorzugsweise
von 15 000 bis 200 000, aufweist
■40 Die erfindungsgemäßen Schmieröle gewährleisten
eine verbesserte Schmierung von Metalloberflächen, welche sich relativ zueinander bewegen.
Die Mineralschmieröle der Erfindung eignen sich insbesondere für Motoren. Sie weisen im allgemeinen
4-, Viskositäten (37,8° C) von etwa 150 bis 250 SUS
(Saybolt-Universal-Sekunden) auf und werden im allgemeinen den SAE-Typen 5 bis 50 zugeordnet Als
Basisöle dienen in der Regel Destillate, die erfindungsgemäßen Mineralschmieröle können jedoch auch
jo Rückstände enthalten, sofern die Schmierwirkung
erhalten bleibt. Obwohl Basisöle mit niedrigem VI eingesetzt werden können, ist es wesentlich zweckmäßiger,
solche Öle mit VI von etwa 120 bis etwa 200 zu verwenden. Es werden um so bessere Schmieröle
erhalten, je höher der VI des Basisöls ist, insbesondere, wenn Mehrbereichsschmieröle, wie Schmieröle vom
SAE-Typ 10/30 oder 20/40, hergestellt werden sollen. Auch als Basisöle für z. B. Schmierfette, Hydrauliköle
oder Schmierstoffe für offene Getriebe geeignete öle können für den vorgenannten Zweck verwendet
werden. Die Mineral-Basisöle können mit synthetischen Schmierölen, wie Diesterölen, vermischt werden.
Spezielle Beispiele für bevorzugte Diene sind Butadien und/oder Isopren. Wenn die Copolymere
Λ-Monoolefin-Polymerblöcke als Block B enthalten,
werden als Monoolefine Äthylen und/oder Propylen und/oder Buten bevorzugt.

oder Copolymerblöcke sein. Bei Copolymerblöcken
sollen die für den Aufbau der Polymerblöcke A und B angegebenen Monomeren überwiegen. Ein typisches
Polymeres dieses Typs weist vor der Hydrierung die Struktur Polystyrol/Random-Styrol-Butadien-Kautschuk
auf.
Die Blockcopolymere werden zur Erniedrigung ihrer olefinischen Ungesättigtheit vorzugsweise hydriert. Die
olefinische Ungesättigtheit wird dabei insbesondere um mindestens 50%, speziell um mindestens 80% der
ursprünglich vorhandenen olefinisch ungesättigten Bindungen, erniedrigt Die aromatischen Doppelbindungen
werden vorzugsweise zu mindestens 50%, insbesondere zu mindestens 80%, hydriert Die Hydrierung wird
vorzugsweise in Lösung durchgeführt wobei entweder homogene oder heterogene Katalysatoren eingesetzt
werden. Wenn sowohl der Anteil der aromatischen als auch der olefinisch ungesättigten Bindungen erniedrigt
werden soll, können retativ scharfe Hydrierungsbedingungen angewendet werden. Vorzugsweise werden in
jedoch die leichter reduzierteren olefinisch ungesättigten
Bindungen zuerst bei relativ milden Hydrierungsbedingungen reduziert, wonach man Temperatur und
Druck erhöhen kann, um gegebenenfalls die aromatischen Doppelbindungen wirkungsvoll zu reduzieren. Als
Katalysatoren werden vorzugsweise z. B. Kobalt- oder
Nickelsalze oder -alkoxide eingesetzt, weiche mit Aluminiumalkylverbindungen reduziert wurden. Spezielle
Beispiele für erfindungsgemäß geeignete Katalysatoren sind Nickelacetat, Nickeloctoat oJer mit
Aluminiumalkylverbindungen, wie Aluminiumtriäthyl oder Aluminiumtriisobutyl, reduziertes Nickelacetylacetonat
Die Blockcopolymere können in den erfindungsgemäßen Mineralschmierolen in Anteilen von 0,75 bis 10
Gewichtsprozent eingesetzt werden. Die bevorzugten Anteile betragen 1 bis 4,5 Gewichtsprozent Die
Mineralschmieröle der Erfindung können weitere Zusatzstoffe enthalten, wie Detergentien.
Die Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung.

Es wird ein Basisöl nachstehender Zusammensetzung hergestellt:

Zu Vergleichszwecken wird nun eine Lösung von 2,1 Gewichtsprozent eines herkömmlichen VI-Verbesserers
in einer Teilmenge des Basisöls der obigen Zusammensetzung hergestellt. Dieser bekannte VI-Verbesserer
ist ein Random-Terpolymeres mit einem Molekulargewicht von etwa 800 000, welches zu
60 Gewichtsprozent aus Laurylmethacrylat-Einheiten, zu 35 Gewichtsprozent aus Stearylmethacrylat-Einheiten
und zu 5 Gewichtsprozent aus 2-Methyl-5-vinylpyridin-Einheiten aufgebaut ist. Ein Blockcopolymeres mit
einer Struktur Polystyrol/hydriertes Polyisopren wird dann in einer weiteren Teilmenge des Basisöls der
vorgenannten Zusammensetzung gelöst und zum Vergleich mit dem Basisöl und dem das Polymethacrylat
enthaltenden Öl geprüft. Jeder Block des Copolymeren weist ein Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von 21 000
auf.
Die Scherbeständigkeiten der in Lösung befindliche Polymere werden anhand der Einbuße der kinematischen
Viskosität der Lösung (98,9° C) bestimmt. Die Viskositätseinbuße wird dabei durch einen Abbau des
Polymeren in einer mit Schalleinwirkung arbeitenden Schervorrichtung bewirkt. Zur Durchführung dieses
Versuches werden 30-ml-Proben während 30 Minuten bei 37,8° C und einer Frequenz von 9170 Hz behandelt,
und die kinematischen Viskositäten der Lösungen werden vor und nach der Scherwirkung bestimmt. Die
auf den Polymerabbau zurückzuführende Viskositätseinbuße bei 98,9°C wird durch nachstehende Gleichung
wiedergegeben:

In der obigen Gleichung bedeuten Vj bzw. V>bzw. Vb
die Viskositäten der ursprünglichen Lösung vor der Scherwirkung bzw. der Lösung nach der Scherwirkung
bzw. des keinen VI-Verbesserer enthaltenden Basisöls.
Die Ergebnisse sind aus Tabelle I ersichtlich.

Bei ähnlichen Versuchen wird ein hydrierter Random- Styrol-Butadien-Kautschuk auf den Grad des Abbaus
durch Scherwirkung geprüft. Es wird festgestellt, daß dieser Kautschuk etwa zwei Drittel seiner Verdickungsfähigkeit
ver'iert.
Ein Blockcopolymeres mit der Struktur Polystyrol/ Viskosität cS

Tabelle II sind die Zusammensetzungen und Viskositäts- 37,8
eigenschaften des zusatzstoffhaltigen bzw. zusatzstoff- 98,9

Claims (5)
1. Mineralschmieröl mit einem Gehalt an einem Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer in Form eines Copolymers,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es als Viskositätsindex Verbesserer ein Blockcopolymeres
der allgemeinen Formel
A-B
enthält, in der A einen Block aus Polystyrol, zumindest teilweise hydriertem Polystyrol oder
Polyvinyicyclohexan darstellt, wobei der Block ein Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von 5000 bis 50 000,
vorzugsweise von 9000 bis 35 000, aufweist, und in der B einen Block aus einem «-Monoolefinpolymer,
einem Polymer eines konjugierten Diens oder einem Hydrierungsprodukt eines solchen Polymers darstellt,
in welchem zumindest 50% der ursprünglich vorhandenen Doppelbindungen hydriert worden
sind, wobei der Block ein Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht
von iOOOO bis 1 000 000, vorzugsweise von 15 000 bis 200 000, aufweist.
2. Mineralschmieröl mit einem Gehalt an einem Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer in Form eines Copolymers
nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es im Block B als Dien Isopren oder Butadien
enthält
3. Mineralschmieröl mit einem Gehalt an einem Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer in Form eines Copolymers
nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es ein Copolymeres enthält, in welchem
mindestens 50%, vorzugsweise mindestens 80%, der ursprünglich vorhandenen olefinisch ungesättigten
Bindungen hydriert worden sind.
4. Mineralschmieröl mit einem Gehalt an einem Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer in Form eines Copolymers,
nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es ein Copolymeres enthält, in
welchem mindestens 50%, vorzugsweise mindestens 80%, der ursprünglichen vorhandenen aromatischen
Doppelbindungen hydriert worden sind.
5. Mineralschmieröl mit einem Gehalt an einem Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer in Form eines Copolymers
nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es 0,75 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent,
vorzugsweise 1 bis 4,5 Gewichtsprozent, eines Copolymeren der allgemeinen Formel A-B enthält.
