Die Erfindung betrifft ein Mineralschmieröl mit verbessertem Viskositätsindex.
Der Viskositätsindex (VI) von Schmierstoffen auf Mineralölbasis wird herkömmlich durch Einverleibung hochmolekularer,
polymerer Zusatzstoffe, wie Polymethacrylsäureester , eingestellt. Anscheinend wegen ihres hohen Molekulargewichts
sind solche Zusatzstoffe jedoch empfindlich gegenüber thermischem oder oxidativem Abbaμ, insbesondere unter dem Einfluß
der bei der Verwendung erfolgenden Scherwirkung.
} Aufgabe der Erfindung war es, neue Mineralschmieröle zur Ver-109826/1546
fügung zu stellen, welche VI-Verbesserer enthalten, die eine hervorragende Beständigkeit gegenüber der Scherwirkung, Oxidation
und thermischen Beanspruchung aufweisen und mit dem Basisöl
gut verträglich sind. Diese Aufgabe..wird durch die Erfindung gelöst.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist somit ein-.Mineralschmieröl, welches
dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß es als Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer
ein Blockcopolymeres mit mindestens drei Polymerblöcken C und D enthält, wobei die Polymerblöcke C entweder
Polymere von monovinylsubstituierten aromatischen Verbindungen, oder, wenn mehr als ein Polymerblock Cvorhanden ist, zumindest
teilweise hydrierte Polymere von monovinylsubstituierten aromatischen Verbindungen, oder Polyvinylcyclohexan darstellen und
Durchschnittsmolekulargewichte von 5000 bis 50 000, vorzugsweise 9000 bis 35 000, aufweisen, und die Polymerblöcke D .o-Monoolefinpolymere
oder zumindest teilweise hydrierte Polymere von konjugierten Dienen darstellen und..Durchschnittsmolekulargewichte
von 10 000 bis 1 000 000, vorzugsweise 15 000 bis 200 000, aufweisen.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Schmieröle gewährleisten eine verbesserte Schmierung von Metalloberflächen, welche sich relativ zueinander
bewegen.
Die Mineralschmieröle der Erfindung eignen sich insbesondere für Motoren. Sie weisen im allgemeinen Viskositäten (37,80C) von et
wa 150 bis 250 SUS V'3aybolt-Universa 1- Sekunden) auf und werden im

allgemeinen den SAE-Typen 5v5'O zugeordnet. Als Basisöle dienen
in der Regel Destillate, die erfindungsgemäßen Mineralschmieröle können jedoch auch Rückstände enthalten, sofern die Schmierwirkung
erhalten bleibt. Obwohl Basisöle..mit niedrigem VI eingesetzt werden können, ist es wesentlich, zweckmäßiger, solche Öle
mit VI von etwa 120 bis etwa 200 zu verwenden. Es werden umso bessere Schmieröle erhalten, je höher der VI des Basisöls ist,
insbesondere, wenn Mehrbereichsschmieröle, wie Schmieröle vom SAE-Typ 10/30 oder 20/40, hergestellt werden sollen. Auch als
Basisöle für z.B. Schmierfette, Hydrauliköle oder Schmierstoffe für offene Getriebe geeignete Öle können für den vorgenannten
Zweck verwendet werden. Die Mineral-Basisöle können mit synthetischen Schmierölen, 'wie Diesterölen, vermischt werden.
Die in den erfindungsgemäßen Mineralschmierölen enthaltenen
Blockcopolymeren können eine lineare oder verzweigte Struktur
aufweisen. Eine lineare Struktur entspricht dabei der allgemeinen Formel I

während die verzweigte Struktur der allgemeinen Formel II

entspricht, η in den allgemeinen Formeln I bzw. II ist eine
ganze Zahl, vorzugsweise von 1 bis 5. Die Blockeopolymere
mit verzweigter Struktur werden im allgemeinen durch Kupplungsreaktionen erhalten, bei denen Kupplungsmittel mit mehr als
zwei Funktionen eingesetzt werden. Die. Herstellung dieser Blockcopolymere fällt nicht in den Rahmen der Erfindung.
Beispiele für die vorgenannten Blockopolymere sind Copoly-

mere, welche an den Enden ihrer Ketten-Polymerblöcke D aufweisen,
wie es bei den Polymeren aus hydriertem Polyisopren/hydriertem Polystyrol/hydriertem Polyisopren der Pail ist. Wenn der Polymerblock
D ein hydriertes Polybutadien-ist, weist er vorzugsweise
einen Gehalt am 1,2-Polymeren von 30 bis 60$ auf.
Spezielle Beispiele für bevorzugte Diene sind Butadien und/oder Isopren. Spezielle Beispiele für bevorzugte Monoolefine sind

Die Polymerblöcke C bzw. D können Homopolymer- oder Copolymer-

Die Blockcopolymere werden 2ur Erniedrigung ihrer olefinischen

Die olefinische Ungesättigtheit wird dabei insbesondere um mindestens 50$, speziell um mindestens 80$ der ursprünglich vorhandenen, olefinisch ungesättigten Bindungen, erniedrigt. Die aromatischen Doppelbindungen werden vorzugsweise zu mindestens 50$, insbesondere zu mindestens 80$ hydriert. Die Hydrierung wird vorzugsweise in Lösung durchgeführt, wobei entweder homogene oder heterogene Katalysatoren eingesetzt werden. Wenn sowohl der Anteil der aromatischen als auch der olefinisch ungesättigten Bindungen erniedrigt werden soll, kön-

Vorzugsweise werden jedoch die leichter reduzierbaren olefi- ' ,
nisch ungesättigten Bindungen zuerst bei relativ milden Hydrierungsbedingungen reduziert, wonacluman Temperatur und
Druck erhöhen kann, um gegebenenfalls die aromatischen Doppelbindungen wirkungsvoll zu reduzieren. Als. Katalysatoren werden
vorzugsweise z.B. Kobalt- oder Nickelsalze oder -alkoxide eingesetzt, welche mit Aluminiumalkylverbindungen reduziert wurden.
Spezielle Beispiele für erfindungsgemäß geeignete Katalysatoren sind Nickelacetat, Nickeloctoat oder mit Aluminiumalkylverbindungen,
wie Aluminiumtriäthyl, Aluminiumtriisobutyl

Schmierölen in Anteilen von 0,75 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent eingesetzt werden. Die bevorzugten Anteile betragen 1 bis 4,5 Gewichtsprozent.
Die Mineralschmieröle der Erfindung können weitere Zusatzstoffe enthalten, wie Detergentien.
Die Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung.

Zu Vergleichszwecken wird nun eine Lösung von 2,1 Gewichtsprozent eines herkömmlichen VI-Verbesserers in einer Teilmenge
eines Schmieröls der obigen Zusammensetzung hergestellt. Dieser bekannte VI-Verbesserer ist ein Randora-Terpolymeres mit
einem Molekulargewicht von etwa 800 000, welches zu 60 Gewichtsprozent
aus Laurylmethacrylat-Einheiten, zu 35 Gewichtsprozent
aus Stearylmethacrylat-Einheiten und zu 5 Gewichtsprozent aus 2-Methyl-5-vinylpyridin-Binheiten aufgebaut ist.
Es werden dann vier verschiedene Typen.von Blockeopolymeren
geprüft, wobei versucht wird, homogene. Lösungen oder Dispersionen dieser Blockeopolymeren in Teilmengen des Basisöls der
angegebenen Zusammensetzung herzustellen. In Tabelle I sind die vier geprüften Blockcopolymer-Typen beschrieben.

Es wird festgestellt, daß die Blockcopolymere 2 und 4 in einem solchen Maße schmierölunverträglich sind, daß bei einem Zusatz
von 0,2 Gewichtsprozent des betreffenden Polymers zum Öl klumpige Gele entstehen. Der Beitrag dieser Polymere zur Viskosität
des Öls ist zu niedrig, als daß sie sich als VI-Verbesserer eignen. Die anderen beiden Blockcopolymere bilden brauchbare Öllösungen,
und ihre Konzentrationen werden so eingestellt, daß kinematische Viskositäten (98,9°C) erzielt werden, welche mit
den mit Hilfe des vorgenannten Terpolymers erzielten Y/erten vergleichbar
sind.
Die Scherbeständigkeiten der in Lösung befindlichen Polymere werden
anhand der Einbuße der kinematischen Viskosität der Lösung (98,90C) bestimmt. Die Viskositätseinbuße wird dabei durch einen

Abbau des Polymeren in einer mit / Schervorrichtung bewirkt.
Zur Durchführung dieses Versuches werden 30 ml-Proben während 30 Minuten bei 37,80C und einer Frequenz von 9 170 Hz

behandelt, und die kinematischen Viskositäten der Lösungen werden
vor"und nach der Scherwirkung bestimmt* Die auf den Polymerabbau
zurückzuführende Viskositätseinbuße bei' 98,9°C wird durch nachstehende
Gleichung wiedergegeben:

In der obigen Gleichung bedeuten V1 bzw. V^, bzw. V5 die Viskositäten
der ursprünglichen Lösung vor der Scherwirkung bzw. der Lösung nach der Scherwirkung bzw. des keinen VI-Verbesserer enthaltenden
Basisölgemisches. Die Ergebnisse sind aus Tabelle II ersichtlich.

Bei ähnlichen Versuchen wird ein hydrierter Random-Styrol-Butadien-Kautscbnk
suf den Grad des Abbaus durch Scherwirkung geprüft. Es wird

Claims (6)
- Patentansprüchev l.J Mineralschmieröl, dadurch gekejinz ei.chne t, daß es als Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer ein Blockcopolymeres mit mindestens drei Polymerblöcken C und D enthält, wobei die Poly-· merblöcke C entweder Polymere von monovinylsubstituierten aromatischen Verbindungen oder, wenn mehr als ein Polymerblock C vorhanden ist, zumindest teilweise hydrierte Polymere von monovinylsubstituierten aromatischen Verbindungen, oder Pqlyvinylcyclohexan darstellen und Durchschnittsmolekulargewichte von 5000 bis 50000, vorzugsweise 9OOO bis 35000, aufweisen, und die Polymerblöcke D oi—Monoolefinpolymere oder zumindest teilweise hydrierte Polymere von konjugierten Dienen darstellen und Durch-'S.Schnittsmolekulargewichte von 10000 bis 1000000, vorzugsweise 15000 bis 200000, aufweisen.
- 2. Mineralschmieröl nach.Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Copolymere im Polymerblock D als Dien Isopren oder Butadien enthält.
- 3. Mineralschmieröl' nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Copolymere im Polymerblock C als monovinylsubstituierte aromatische Verbindung Styrol enthält.
- 4. Mineralschmieröl nach Anspruch 1 bis 3» dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es ein Copolymeres enthält, in welchem mindestens 50#, vorzugsweise mindestens 80#, der ursprünglich vorhandenen olefinisch ungesättigten Bindungen hydriert wurden.109826/1546
- 5. Mineralschmieröl nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es ein Copolymeres enthält, in welchem mindestens 50/0, vorzugsweise mindestens 80f£, der ursprünglich vorhandenen aromatischen Doppelbindungen hydriert wurden.
- 6. Mineralschmieröl nach Anspruch 1 bis 5* dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es einen Copolymeranteil von 0,75 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent, vorzugsweise 1 bis 4,5 Gewichtsprozent, aufweist.109826/1546ßAD ORiGfNAL
