Die 4,5,6,7-Tetrahydrobenzotria.zole sind bisher wenig bekannt.
Durch Totalsynthese wurden einige Tetrahydrebenzotriazol-Derivate
hergestellt; vgl. K. Adler und V. Steni, Liebigs Annalen
der Chemie, 501, S. 47 (1933); G. Wittig und W. Krebs, Chem.
6er. 91^, S. 3274 (1961); Ro Fusco et al., Gazz» Chirn. Ital. 91t
S. 849 und 933 (1961).
Dagegen sind zahlreiche Benzotriazol-Derivate leicht zugänglich,
sie zeigten sieh aber gegen Reduktionsmittel als sehr widerstände·
fähig. So könnt· l-Hydroxytnethyl-benzotriazol mit LiAlH4J oder
Raney-Niekel oder Pd-Kohle als Katalysator nieht hydriert warden,
(vgl· Qaylord, J. An.Chem. Soe. 76, S. 285 (1954). Ebenso konnte
1-Phenyl-benstriaxol weder mit LiAlH11 noch mit Raney-Nickel als
Katalysator hydriert werden; bei der Reduktion mit Zinkamalgan
wurde dar Triasolring in Bansotriasol gaspalten unter Bildung

sowie die verschiedensten substituierten Benzotriazole mit Palladium-0 Platin« oder Rhodium-Katalysatoren unter bestimm»
ten Bedingungen glatt, rasch und in guten Ausbeuten zu den entsprechenden 4,5 16 ,,7-Tetrahydrobenzotriazolen hydriert werden

Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es somit, neue 4,5,6„7-Tetrahydrobenzotriazole
zur Verfügung zu stellen» Eine weitere Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung

Bei der Hydrierung von Pyridyl-subs.tituierten Benzotriazolen
nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung wird zuerst der Pyridinkern und anschließend der Benzolkern abgesättigt e.
Als Katalysatoren können im Verfahren der Erfindung übliche
Palladium-Platin- oder Rhodium-Katalysatoren allein oder auf verschiedenen Trägern verwendet werden. Vorzugsweise
werden die auf Trägern aufgebrachten Katalysatoren verwendet,, Beispiele für geeignete Trägersubstanzen sind Kieselsäure, Diatomeenerde, Aluminiumoxid, Bimsstein« Asbest« Kohle»,
Titandioxid, Bariumsulfat, Vermikulit und Kieselgel» Bevorzugte Träger sind Aktivkohle, Bariumsulfat, Titandioxid,
Aluminiumoxid und Kieselgel. In den Trägerkatalysatoren sind die Platinmetalle normalerweise in Mengen von etwa 2
bis 10% enthaltenr Die Katalysatoren können nach gründlichem Auswaschen, s«B. mit Wasser, Methanol oder Eisessig,
mehrmals verwendet, werden»
Das Verfahren der Erfindung wird in dnem Lösungs» oder Verdünnungsmittel durchgeführt, in welchem das eingesetzte
Benzotriazol zumindest teilweise löslich ist,, Beispiele für
reeignete Lösungsmittel sind Wasser,, Essigsäure* Propionsäure, nieder aliphatische Alkohol«, Glykolether, Diäthyl-•ther, Tetrahydro!uran oder deren Gemische.
Xn einigen Fällen gelingt das Hydrieren der Benzotriazole
ohne Zusatz von starken Säuren. Vorzugsweise wird das V«r-

fahren der Erfindeng in Gegenwart von starken Säuren durchgeführt oder es werden die Säureadditionssalze eingesetzt.
Das Verfahren der Erfindung- kann in einen verhältnismäßig
weiten Tenperaturtereich bei Normaldruck oder Überdruck
durchgeführt werden9 Der bevorzugte Temperaturbereich bei
Normaldruck liegt bei etwa O0Cj bis sum Siedepunkt des verwendete» Lösungsmittela oder Verdiinnungsmittels. Unter die-
sen Bedingungen wird bevorzugt der Palladium-Katalysator
verwendet. Bei Arbeiten mit Überdruck wird bevorzugt der Palladium- oder Rhodium-Katalysator verwendet; sollen gegeben«afalle vorhandene aromatisch· Substituenten ebenfalls
hydriert werde», hydriert man ie nach der Verbindung mit

oder mehr.durchgeführt werden· Die Hydrierung kann auch bei

Die am schwersten hy&ri erbaren, in Umstellung nicht substituierten Benzotriazole, wie Z11B0 Benzotriazol selbst (Tabelle I),
sowie im Benzolkern ces Benzotriazole substituierte Benzotriazole, wie ZoB. 5-Carboxy-(Tabelle II), 5-Methyl- und 5,7-Di-
methyl«benzotriazol (Tabelle III), werden in neutralen Lösungsmitteln, aber auch bisweilen in Bisessig sehr langsam und oft
unvollkommen hydriert. In Form ihrer Salze der starken Säuren verläuft die Hydrierung schnell und vollkommen (Tabelle I, Versuch 7i Tabelle II, Versuche 4-9, Tabelle II, Versuch 2).
Hier zeigt sich sehr deutlich, daß die sonst unter bekannten, für schwierige Hydrierungen gewählten Bedingungen (Platin
und Eisessig) nicht ausreichen, um die Hydrierung zum Erfolg
asu führen (Tabelle II, Vorsuch 2). Erst nach Zugabe von starken Säuren wird die Hydrierung in guten Ausbeuten durchgeführt
(Tabelle II, Versuche 5 und 8). Die Aktivität der Platinmetalle fällt bei der Hydrierung bei Normaldruck und Räumtempera-

tür in Richtung Pd^ pt ^Rh, bei höherem Druck und höherer
Temperatur in Richtung Rh^Pd^Pt ab,
Wesentlich leichter werden die in N-Stellung, besonders die
in 2-N-5teilung substituierten Benzotriazoleo Hier gelingt die
Hydrierung auch manchmal in neutralen Lösungsmitteln, wie
Äthanol, Dioxan oder Tetrahydrofurane Bs zeigt sich jedoch,
daß die Hydrierungsgeschwindigkeit stark ansteigt, wenn zur Hydrierlösung starke Säuren zugesetzt werden (Tabelle IV),

Ein wesentlicher Teil der Erfindung besteht also auch in der
richtigen Auswahl von "Lösungsmitteln". Außer Essigsäure oder
anderen niederen Carbonsäuren können im allgemeinen Wasser
oder andere, polare Lösungsmittel , wie niedere aliphatiache

Alkohole, Glykoläthei*, Diethylether oder Tetrahydrofuran verwendet
werden, wenn die zu hydrierende Verbindung in Forra ihres
Salzos mit einer anorganischen oder organischen Säure verwendet
wird5 oder aber, wenn au diesem Lösungsmittel diese Säuren
in einer Menge von mr-Kdestens 1. Äquivalent je basische Gruppe
zugesetzt herden» Verwendet man ©inen Unterschuß von Säuren,
so kommt es entweder stn keiner Hydrierung oder die Hydrierung
verläuft sehr langsatt und manchmal unvollständig,,
Aus den Tabellen I - IV ist ersichtlich, daß die Hydrierungsge"

Lösungsmittel aber aTtch von der Temperatur und dem Druck abhängt.
Daraus ergeben sich die bevorzugten und wirtschaftlichßten Hydrierungsbedingungen
fiir das Verfahren der Erfindung; Man hydriert itn allgemeinen mit Pd- p Pt- oder Hh-Trägerkatalysatoren
in Eisessig, verdünnter Essigsäure oder Wasser unter
Zusatz von mindestens äquimolaren Mengen an starken Säurön»
z.B. HCl, HgSO. t HClO^ USw0, wobei alle vorhandenen basischen
Stickstoffgruppen mit Säure neutralisiert sind und gegebenenfalls
Säure im Überschuß '/orhanden sein kann, bei ainer Temperatur
von 20 - 12O°C uml bei einem Wasserstoffdruck von 1 - 80
kg/cm ,Besonders wirtschaftlich hydriert man in Wasser mit
Rhodium- oder Palladium-Katalysatoren unter Zusatz von starken Säuren bei erhöhtem Oruck und erhöhten Temperatureno

quartären Salze umgewandelt werden»
Manchmal kann man in guten Ausbeuten auf folgende Weise Verfahrens 1 Mol der Tetrahydroverbindung wird gemäß (E) mit 1 Mol
eines Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl- oder Arylalkylhalogenids umgesetzte
Danach wird 1^1 Mol Natriumhydroxyd zugegeben und das Reaktionsgemisch
eine Stunde unter Rückfluß erhitzt, Nach weiterer Zugabe von I Mol Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl- oder Arylalkyl-halogenid
wird die Mischung noch eine Stunde unter Rückfluß gekocht und
danach wird ausgefallenes Natriumsalz abfiltriert und das Lösungsmittel abdestilliert* Es hinterbleibt das quartäre Ammoniumsalze
In der nachfolgenden Tabelle V sind Beispiele, für die nach
dem Verfahren der Erfindung herstellbaren Tetrahydrobenzotriazole

01· Tetrahydrobeneotriazole sind durch das XR-Sp«ktrum eindeutig charakterisierte Di· für dl« unhydrierten Benzotriazole
charakteristischen aromatischen Schwingungen des Benzolkern·
(je nach Art der Substitution zwischen 670 und 900 cm" ) treten bei den hydrierten Verbindungen nicht mehr auf. Die für den
Triazolkern charakteristische (HN)a»SOZ. Absorption (zwischen
2400 und 3500 cm"1) bleibt bei den in N-Steilung unsubstituierten Verbindungen erhalten·
Die nach den Verfahren der Erfindung herstellbaren Tetrahydrobenzotriazole können für die verschiedensten Zwecke verwendet
werden, z.B. ala Korrosionsinhibitoren insbeaondore für Kupfer
und Kupferlegierungen, Säurepassivierungsmittel für Bisen und
Stahl, Inhibitoren für Sparbeizen, Alterungsschutzmittel in Mineralölen, Heizölen und Gummi, als Zwischenprodukte zur Herstellung von Pharmazeutika und landwirtschaftlichen Chemikalien. Die quartären Ammoniumsalze der Tetrahydrobenzotriazole
besitzen eine ausgesprochene Tensidwirkung und eignen sieh z,Bo
zum Benetzen und Weichmachen von Textilien.
An einigen Beispielen wird die Verwendung von 4,5,6,7-Tetrahydrobenzotriazolen als Metalldesaktivator in Schmierölen erläutert. Entsprechend ASTM-Prüfnorm D 130 wird ein Eupferstreifen in ein korrosives, Schwefel enthaltendes Mineralöl (Erstraffinat SAE 10 mit geschwefelten SpenaÖl auf 0,5 % Gesamtschwefel eingestellt)7 bei erhöhter Temperatur unter Zusatz von
0,025 J^ der zu prüfenden Verbindung eingetaucht·
