Description
Synthetische Schmiermittel auf Basis von Adipinsäure-, Sebacinsäure-
oder Azelainsäurederivaten sind bekannt. Diese Produkte haben im allgemeinen niedrige Viskosität in der Größenordnung
von 3 bis 7 cS bei 99°O und finden Anwendung als Schmiermittel bei Düsentriebwerken, wo hohe Temperaturen
und hohe Drehgeschwindigkeiten die Verwendung von Spezialschmiermitteln
erfordern. Es ist ferner bekannt, daß in neuerer Zeit synthetische Schmiermittel in Brennkraftmotoren oder
zugehörigen Apparaturen oder in stationären Düsentriebwerken für Spezialzwecke, z.B. an den wartungsfreien (Tilled for
life") Hinterachsen von Motorfahrzeugen verwendet werden. Diese letztgenannten Schmiermittel, die in Motoren uaw. mit
niedrigeren Drehgeschwindigkeiten als Düsentriebwerke verwendet werden, müssen eine höhere Viskosität als die vorstehend
genannten Werte von 3 bis 7 cS haben und basieren auf Verbindungen, wie Pentaerythrit. Diese Schmierstoffe haben
den flaehteil hoher Kosten, die auf die Grundkosten der Rohstoffe
zurückzuführen sind.

Schmiermittels verschlechtert werden.
Darüber hinaus haben die erfindungsgemäßen Grundöle des
Schmiermittels hohe Viskositätsindices in der Größenordnung von HO. Dies ist sehr günstig im Vergleich zu dem Viskositätsindex
von Mineralölen, die als Schmiermittel-Grundöle verwendet werden und Viskositätsindices bis etwa 90 haben.
Der Viskositätsindex voh Mineralölen kann durch Zusatz von Verbindungen, wie Polylaurylmethycrylat, verbessert werden.
Wenn jedoch das Schmiermittel Scher- und Schubbeanspruchungen unterworfen wird, z.B. bei Verwendung in Transmissionen,
Getrieben und Hinterachsen, bricht der Viskositätsindexverbesserer zusammen, und das Schmiermittel pflegt wieder zum
Viskositätsindex des Grundöles zurückzukehren. Daher müssen Schmiermittel, bei denen Zusatzstoffe zur Verbesserung des
Viskositätsindexee verwendet werden, in ziemlich häufigen Abständen ausgewechselt werden, während Schmiermittel, die
das erfindungsgemäße Grundöl enthalten, diesen Nachteil nicht aufweisen.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist demgemäß ein synthetisches Schmiermittel, dessen Grundöl einen Ester eines äthoxylierten
Polyols mit einem Gemisch von Carbonsäuren mit 3 bis 15 C-Atomen enthält, in denen das Verhältnis von Kohlenstoffatomen
zu Sauerstoffatomen im Produktmolekül wenigstens
3,4:1 beträgt.
Das bevorzugte Verfahren zur Herstellung des äthoxylierten Eolyols ist die Umsetzung eines Polyols mit Äthylenoxyd,
jedoch ist die Erfindung nicht auf die Verwendung von Verbindungen
beschränkt, die in dieser speziellen Weise hergestellt worden sind.
Das äthoxyliertö Polyol kann 1 bis 24, vorzugsweise 1 bis 6
substituierende ithoxygruppen pro Hydroxylgruppe des Polyols enthaltene
Geeignete Polyols sind Trimethylolpropan, Glycerin, Pentaerythrit,
Dipentaerythrit, Sorbit und ITeopentylglykol.

Ale Carbonsäuren werden aliphatieohe einbasische Säuren bevorzugt. Geeignet sind die hochmolekularen Säuren» z.B.
Heptansäurβ, Caprylsäure, Pelargoneäure, Caprinsäure und
Laurinsäure sowie Säuren von niedrigerem Molekulargewicht,
z.B. Prop-ionsäure, Buttersäure und Valeriansäure· Vorzugsweiae werden für die Veresterung dee äthoxylierten Polyols
Gemische verwendet, die Säuren von niedrigerem und höherem Molekulargewicht enthalten. Durch Verwendung von Säuregemischen ist eine feinere Einstellung der Viskosität dee Endprodukts möglich·
Die Schmiermittel-Grundmaterialien gemäß der Erfindung können in beliebiger passender Weise hergestellt werden. Beispielsweise kann daa Polyol mit Äthylenoxyd oder Gemischen
von Oxyden, die ithylenoxyd enthalten, umgesetzt werden, wobei die Reaktion unter Brück in einem Autoklaven sowie
vorzugsweise in Gegenwart eines geeigneten alkalischen Katalysators, z.B. Hatrlmhydxoxyii cder Hatriummtthoxyd, durchgeführt wird· Bei Beendigung de? ithoxylierungereaktion,
erkennbar an der Aufnahme d®2? gewünschten Molmeage des
Äthylenoxyde durch da« Polyol, wird das Autoklaven-Gemisch mit Säure, z.B. Benzoleulfonaäure, neutralisiert, ein Überschuß der Säure zugesetzt und dae Gemisch mit den Fettsäuren
verestert. Die Veresterung kann In beliebiger passender Welse durchgeführt werden. Das äthoxylierte Polyol kann in einer
einzigen Stufe durch Umsetzung mit einem Gemisch der Fettsäuren von höheres und niedrigerem Molekulargewicht verestert werden. Vorzugsweise wird das äthoxylierte Folyol
zuerst teilweise mit einer cder mehreren hShermolekularen
Säuren verestert und die Veresterung mit einer oder mehreren Säuren von niedrigerem Molekulargewicht vollendet. Es ist
erwünscht, dae das Endprodukt keine Hydroxylgruppen enthält·
Daher wird dae äthoxylierte Polyol mit der höheren Säure und ansohliefiend mit der reaktionsfähigeren niedrigeren
Säure umgesetzt, um sämtliche verbliebenen Hydroxylgruppen

zu verestern·
Bas Grundöl sollte mit anderen Grundölen, z.B. den Mineralölen, die unter der Bezeichnung "Pool 12" und "Brightstock"
im Handel erhältlich sind, mischbar sein. Als ungefährer Anhaltspunkt kann festgestellt werden, daß das Schmiermittel-Grundmaterial gemäß der Erfindung mit Mineralölen um so
verträglicher ist, je höher das Verhältnis von Kohlenstoffatomen zu Sauerstoffatomen im Molekül ist. Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen haben sämtlich ein Verhältnis von Kohlenstoffatomen zu Sauerstoffatomen von wenigstens 3,4:1.
Bevorzugt werden Verbindungen, in denen dieses Verhältnis über 3,9:1 liegt.
Die synthetischen Schmiermittel gemäß der Erfindung eignen sich für hohe Beanspruchungen und haben hohe Temperaturbeständigkeit· Ihre Schmiereigenschaften entsprechen denen
eines Mehrbereiche-Superschmieröle. Die Schmiermittel können
andere übliche Ölzusätze enthalten, z.B. die bekannten Schlamm-Inhibitoren, Höchstdruckzusätze und Antioxidantien.
Beispiele 1-4
Das auf einen Wassergehalt von weniger als etwa 0,3$ getrocknete Polyol (Lösungemittel, falls verwendet) und Natriumhydroxyd in Schuppenform als Katalysator wurden in dea Autoklaven gegeben· Bas Gefäß wurde verschlossen, evakuiert und
das Vakuum mit Stickstoff aufgehoben. Bieser Vorgang wurde
wiederholt. Bas Gefäß wurde dann evakuiert und der Inhalt
auf 130 bis 1400C erhitzt. Bie gewünschte Menge Athylenoxyd
wurde unter Rühren aufgedrückt. Die Zugabe wurde so geregelt,
daß der Brück im Gefäß etwa 2,8 atü nicht überstieg. Bann
wurde weiter erhitzt und gerührt, bis kein weiterer Bruckabfall stattfand. Bas Eeaktionsgemisch wurde a.uf 5O0C gekühlt. Zur Entfernung von etwaigem nichtumgesetztem Athylenoxyd wurde Vakuum an das Gefäß gelegt.
Die Einzelheiten der Versuche und die Ergebnisse sind nachstehend in Tabelle 1 angegeben.

Das äthoxylierte Polyol, höhere Pettsäure(n), Katalysator
und Schleppmittel wurden in ein geeignetes Gefäß gegeben. Unter Entfernung von Wasser wurde am Rückfluß erhitzt, t-is
die Säurezahl niedriger als etwa 5 war. Die Säure von niedrigerem Molekulargewicht wurde dann zugesetzt und die Reaktion
fortgesetzt, bis die Hydroxylzahl des Produkts auf einen geeigneten Wert gefallen war. Überschüssige Säure und
Schleppmittel wurden dann unter vermindertem Druck entfernt und das Produkt nach normalen Methoden, die zur Reinigung
von Estern angewendet werden, gereinigt. Die Einzelheiten und Ergebnisse sind in Tabelle 2 angegeben.
Das Beispiel 10, in dem das Produkt ein Kohlenstoff/Säuerst
off-Verhältnis von nur 3,0:1 hatte, ist nur für Vergleichszwecke eingefügt worden.

Die Scherfestigkeit wurde durch Messung des Viskositätsindexes vor und nach der Scherbeanspruchung ermittelt. Die Scherbeanspruchung
wurde erzeugt, indem das Schmieröl 45 Minuten durch einen Dieselkraftstoff-Einspritzer umgewälzt wurde.
Es wurde berechnet, daß die Umlaufzeit 200 Durchgängen durch den Einspritzer entsprach. Untersucht wurden das Produkt
gemäß Beispiel 6 und ein "Solvent neutral 150" -öl, das 5$
eines handelsüblichen ViskositätBindexverbesserers "Hitec 960"
enthält. Die Ergebnisse sind in Tabelle 3 genannt.

Die Werte zeigen, daß der Einfluß der Scherbeanspruchung auf die Viskosität und den Viskositätsindex der Schmiermittel
beim Vergleichsöl "Solvent neutral 150" mit zugesetztem Viskositätsindexverbesserer
viel stärker ist· Dies veranschaulicht deutlich die überlegene Beständigkeit der erfindungsgemäßen
Schmieröl-Grundöle gegen Scherbeanspruchung.

Claims (8)
1.) Synthetische Schmiermittel, gekennzeichnet durch einen Gehalt eines Esters eines äthoxylierten Polyols mit einem
Gemisch von Carbonsäuren mit J5 bis 15 C-Atomen im Grundöl.
2.) Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das äthoxylierte Polyol durch Umsetzung eines Polyols mit
Äthylenoxyd hergestellt ist.
j5.) Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß das äthoxylierte Polyol 1 bis 24, vorzugsweise 1 bis 6
substituierte äthoxygruppen pro Hydroxylgruppe des Polyols enthalten hat.
4.) Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 3>
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Ester unter Verwendung von aliphatischen einbasischen
Carbonsäuren hergestellt ist.
5.) Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Ester unter Verwendung eines Gemisches höherer und niederer
Carbonsäuren hergestellt isu.
6.) Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 5» dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß der Ester keine freien Hydroxylgruppen enthält.
7.) Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß im Ester ein Kohlenstoffatom-Sauerstoffatom-Verhältnis
von mindestens 3*4 : 1 vorliegt.
8.) Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es zusätzlich Schlamm-Inhibitoren, Höchstdruckzusätze
und/oder Antioxydantien enthält.
