Abstract

1,157,753. Esters of ethoxylated polyols. B.P. CHEMICALS .(U.K.) Ltd. 3 Aug., 1967 [24 Aug., 1966], No. 28547/67. Divided out of 1,157,653. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] A composition, suitable as a lubricant, comprises a mixed ester of an ethoxylated polyol with a mixture of carboxylic acids having from 3-15 C atoms wherein the ratio of C : O atoms is at least 3À4 : 1. The polyol is preferably trimethyol propane, glycerol. pentaerythritol, dipentaerythritol, neopentylglycol or sorbitol. The carboxylic acids are advantageously aliphatic monobasic acids used in a mixture of higher and lower weight acids. Suitable higher acids are heptoic, caprylic, pelargonic, capric or lauric acids and lower acids, propionic, butyric or valeric acids. The ester preferably has 1-24 ethyleneoxy groups per hydroxyl group of the polyol. As an example dipentaerythritol is reacted with ethylene oxide and the adduct is esterified with C 7-9 acids and butyric acid.
