Abstract

1471313 Lubricants INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE 3 June 1974 [4 June 1973] 24483/74 Heading C5F [Also in Division C3] A lubricating composition comprises at least 5% of hydrocarbon oil, which may be a mineral oil or an olefine oligomer, and at least 5% of an ester-ether of the formula R<SP>4</SP>(COX) m , where R<SP>4</SP> represents the hydrocarbon radical of a dimeric or trimeric acid derived from an unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid of 14 to 22 carbon atoms per molecule, or a mixture of the dimeric and trimeric acids, m is 2 or 2 respectively, and X represents monovalent radicals of which 85 to 1% are of the formula -OR<SP>6</SP> and 15 to 99% of the formula -(OR<SP>5</SP>) n OR<SP>6</SP>, where R<SP>6</SP> represents the hydrocarbon radical of a monohydrie aliphatic or alicyclic alcohol or phenol, R<SP>5</SP> represents an alkylene radical, up to C 5 , and n is a number from 2 to 50. The dimeric or trimeric acid may have been hydrogenated. The composition may also contain up to 40% of an ester of a dicarboxylic acid or of a polyol, e.g. isodecyl adipate, to improve miscibility. The composition is of high VI, and may also contain known VI-improvers or other additives.
