Stabilisierung von Polyvinylchlorid
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft die Verbesserung der Beständigkeit
gegen Zerstörung durch Hitze und/oder Licht von Vinyl-chloridpolymeren durch synergistische Stabilisation. A
Es ist bekannt, dass Vinylchloridpolymere zur Zersetzung
neigen. Es wurde nun gefunden, dass man überraschend stabile
StoffZusammenstellungen auf Basis von Polyvinylchlorid erhält,
wenn man zur Stabilisierung, dieser Polymeren eine geringe Menge eines synergistischen Stabilisatorsystems bestehend aus den folgenden
zwei Komponenten:
(1) ein Metallsalz einer aliphatischen Carbonsäure, welche eine Epoxygruppe enthält und
(2) eine metallorganische ,^schwefelhaltige Verbindung verwendet.
Ein bevorzugtes' erfindungsgemässes Stabilisatorsystem
enthält folgende zwei Komponenten:
(1) ein Metallsalz einer aliphatischen Carbonsäure, welche wenigstens einen Epoxyring und 8 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatome
enthält und wobei das Metall Cadmium, Calcium, Barium oder Zink, besonders aber Cadmium ist, und

vorzugsweise die n-Dodecylgruppe, bedeutet.
Polymeres Material mit einem Gehalt an Vinylchloridpolymeren findet Verwendung für eine Vielzahl von geformten Artikeln,
Filmen und Fasern. Es ist deshalb von Bedeutung, ein optimales " Stabilisatorsystem zum Schütze solcher Gegenstände aus polymerem
Material zu finden, und zwar nicht nur zum Schütze während der
Fabrikation und Formung solcher Artikel, bei welchen häufig Temperaturen von Über 150° angewendet werden, sondern auch zum Schütze
bei niederen Temperaturen, welchen die Gegenstände beim Gebrauch ausgesetzt sind. Lichteinfluss ist eine weitere Ursache der Zersetzung,
welche durch das erfindungsgemässe, synergistische Stabilisatorsystem eingeschränkt wird.

Obwohl .der Schutz von Polymeren aus Polyvinylchlorid
der Hauptgegenstand der Erfindung ist, ist dieselbe nicht auf die Stabilisierung von reinem Polyvinylchlorid beschränkt,
sondern erstreckt sich auch auf die Stabilisierung von Mischpolymeren aus Vinylchlorid und anderen Monomeren.
Zwar wurden einige der Komponenten des erfindungsgemässen synergistischen Stabilisatorsystems bereits zur Stabilisierung
von Polyvinylchlorid angewendet. Die hier offenbarten spezifischen Kombinationen wurden jedoch bisher nicht beschrieben,
noch wurden die äusserst guten Ergebnisse des vorliegenden Stabilisatorsystems bisher erreicht.
Die Komponenten des Stabilisatorsystems sind entweder bekannte Verbindungen oder sind nach bekannten Methoden leicht
herstellbar. Die Propionsäurederivate werden z.B. durch die Reaktion eines Alkylthiophenols mit einem Acrylsäureester in
Gegenwart eines Katalysators hergestellt.
Die folgenden Beispiele veranschaulichen die Erfindung, beschränken sie aber in keiner Weise. Wo nichts anderes angegeben
ist, bedeuten Teile Gewichtsteile. Gewichtsteile verhalten sich zu Volumteilen wie Gramm zu cm .

Stabilisiertes Polyvinylchlorid wird hergestellt durch Vermählen bei 165° während 10 Minuten von 100 Teilen Polyvinylchlorid
(QYSM-5, BAKELITE, der Union Carbide, Bakelite Division, New York) und 2 Teilen der in der nachstehenden
Tabelle I angegebenen, erfindungsgemässen Stabilisatorsysteme,
wobei jeder.einzelne Stabilisator in einer Konzentration von 1 Teil auf 100 Teile unstabilisiertes Kunstharz verwendet wurde.
Das so stabilisierte Polyvinylchlorid ist gegen thermische Zer- ' m
• setzung geschlitzt, wie aus Testversuchen im Luftumwälzungsofen
nach gemessenen Zeitintervallen bei einer konstanten Temperatur von 160° hervorgeht. Das stabilisierte Kunstharz wird mit einem
Blindversuch bezüglich seiner Farbänderung durch die thermische Zersetzung verglichen, die entsprechend der "Gardner" Farbskala
beurteilt wird. Die folgende Tabelle I zeigt die Ergebnisse der Testversuche mit den genannten Stabilisatorsystemen.

Aehnliche Proben von stabilisiertem Polyvinylchlorid
werden zu Vergleichszwecken in derselben Weise wie im obigen
Beispiel beschrieben hergestellt, jedoch anstatt 2 Teile des synergistischen Stabllisatorsyetems pro 100 Teile unstabilisiertes
Polyvinylchlorid werden 2 Teile der einzelnen Stabilisatoren auf 100 Teile unstabilisiertes Harz verwendet.

Wenn man nun die Farbwerte der Muster, welche einen
einzelnen Stabilisator enthalten,mit den Werten vergleicht, welche bei den synergistischen Stabilisatorkombinationen erhalten werden, zeigt sich, dass bei jeder Stabiliaatorkombination der Farbwert niedriger ist als die beiden Farbwerte
der mit den äquivalenten Mengen der beiden einzelnen Komponenten stabilisierten Kunstharze. Dies war nicht zu erwarten. Beispielsweise zeigt ein Vergleich der vorstehenden Tabellen I und II,
wie im Stabilisatorsystem Q (Tabelle I) nach 120 Minuten im I Ofen bei 160° die thermische Zersetzung des Polyvinylchlorids
gering ist, da der Gardner-Farbwert nur 1 beträgt, was einer
Aenderung vom ursprunglichen Wert 0 für das farblose Material
bis 1 entspricht. Nach demselben Zeitintervall hat Cadmium 3-(p-Tert.butylphenylthio)-propionat allein (Tabelle II) einen Gardner-Farbwert von 2, wenn es in derselben Konzentration wie das synergistische Stabilisatorsystem angewandt wird. Die andere Komponente,
das Cadmium 9,10-Epoxystearat (Tabelle II) hat sogar, wenn es in
derselben Konzentration wie das synergistische System G angewandt wird, einen Gardner-Farbwert von 6. Es wäre also zu erwarten gewesen, dass eine Kombination dieser beiden Stabilisatoren einen
Gardner-Farbwert zwischen 2 und 6 zur Folge haben wUrde. Tatsächlich ist der erhaltene Wert viel besser als der erwartete Mittelwert von ungefähr 4. Der erhaltene Wert beträgt 1, was ein ausgezeichneter Wert flir die thermische Stabilität ist. Durch ähnliche
Vergleiche der Daten sieht man, dass die anderen Stabilisatorkombinationen ebenfalls synergistische Wirkung aufweisen.
