Tube stopper It is known that the tubes used in the construction of heat exchanger apparatus are subjected to hydraulic tests at high pressure up to 1000 atm, to check their tightness. During the hydraulic test, it is necessary to seal the open ends of the tubes. The tightness must be ensured perfectly at the high pressures envisaged and, on the other hand, it is necessary to provide a rapid means of sealing the tubes to reduce the duration of the preliminary and subsequent work of the test.
The present invention aims to satisfy these conditions and relates to a tube stopper intended to close a tube at the end by means of a core provided with a sealing gasket disposed in a groove made in the core, which groove com munique with the inside of the tube, said core being held on the end of the tube by means of half-collars biting by clamping on the outside surface of the tube.
The stopper according to the invention is characterized in that the means for tightening the half-collars exert their pressure to bring the half-collars together without resting on the core, which is linked to a circular shoulder engaging. in a correspondingly shaped recess of the half collars.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the stopper forming the subject of the present invention.
The fia. 1 is a longitudinal section of the stopper mounted at the end of a tube.
Fig. 2 is an end view of this plug.
The stopper shown is constituted by a core a which penetrates inside the tube which is to be closed before the hydraulic test. This core a has a circular shoulder c which engages in a corresponding shaped recess cl, arranged in two half-collars dl, d2 (fig. 2) which are articulated so as to be able to pivot about a common axis. The dl, d2 com half-collars have two el, e2 ears, which can be brought together and held in place by a bolt f, or any other suitable tightening means.
The half-collars tighten the tube b, and have on their semi-circular internal faces g teeth which bite into the metal. The core has at the end a circular groove h in which is disposed a circular seal i, of plastic material, for example franite, and the bottom of the groove < I> h communicates with an orifice k with the interior of the tube b.
In the axis of the core a is drilled a channel l connected to a valve m, which allows the evacuation of the air during the rise in pressure of the hydraulic test and emptying of the tube at the end of the operation. This channel can also be used to fill the tube with water.
The half-collars dl, d2 being open, we engage the core a inside the tube b then we close the half-collars on the outside of tube b as seen in the figures. After that, the bolt f is fully tightened so as to ensure the maximum tightening of the half-collars on the tube b. The cap is then in place for the operation.
The pressure of the fluid enters the tube b, is transmitted through the orifice k to the bottom of the groove h and applies the seal i against the internal surface of the tube and the rear part of the groove, that is to say the closer to the end of the tube, ensuring the seal.
