<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device for closing a tube for reverse osmosis.
The subject of the invention is a device for closing a tube for reverse osmosis, lined on the inside with a tubular membrane and used for the pressure treatment of salt water.
In accordance with the invention, the device comprises in the cylindrical end of the tube, between two metal washers traversed axially by a pipe giving access to the interior of the tube, a plug of cylindrical elastic material, provided with a conical recess. and engages at least partially in the tupular membrane, as well as a preferably metallic cone capable of being pressed into the conical recess of the stopper

elastic by bringing the two washers together.
The elastic plug, by expanding, is tightened strongly against the inner wall of the tube and traps between it and this wall the end of the tubular membrane without subjecting it to a twist. The closure of the tube thus produced resists the high pressure prevailing during reverse osmosis in this tube.
One of the washers is fixed on the pipe giving access to the interior of the tube, near the inner end of this pipe or at the end itself, while the other washer can move on a part. threaded pipe, under the effect of a nut which bears on the washer and is acces- sible from the outside.
In order to facilitate the grip on the pipe of a pliers or other tool to prevent any rotational movement of the closure during its introduction into the tube, the pipe has flats. For the same purposes, the washer capable of moving on the pipe is provided with radial lugs capable of being placed in notches provided at the end of the tube.
The washer which is in contact with the elastic stopper advantageously comprises at least one projection capable of penetrating into a recess provided in the bottom of the stopper, such as for example a circular rib engaging in a corresponding groove at the bottom of the stopper, in order to center the latter during the penetration of the metal cone in the conical recess of the stopper. The latter may include a cylindrical rebate engaging in the end of the tubular membrane ct ensuring direct contact between a portion of the liner and the inner wall of the tube.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Although the closure of the tube according to the invention easily withstands the pressure which must be maintained in the tube during reverse osmosis, it can be provided with a safety closure consisting of a cap screwing onto a thread of which the The exterior of the tube is provided at its ends.
Compared with known closure devices for tubes used for reverse osmosis, the device described has the advantage of being simpler and easier to assemble.
The accompanying drawings show by way of example several embodiments of the invention.

The stopper is engaged either completely-, t ', o <"(Fie, j) or partially (Fig. 4) in the semi-permeable membrane 2 and traps the end of the latter between it and the tube. the engagement of the plug is only partial, it is provided with a cylindrical rebate 11 (Fig. 4), which presents more than a part of the plug is in direct contact with the face of the tube 1.
The alley 8 advantageously comprises radial lugs 12 (Fig. 2) engaging in notches 13 made in the end of the tube 1, has the effect of resisting the tendency of the washer to be rotated during rotation. tightening the nut 10 and exert a twisting effect on the membrane 2 by the plug 3, forced by the cone 5 to follow the rotational movement of the washer 8.
By providing angled notches 13, as shown in FIG. 2, the washer 8 is secured to the tube 1 by a bayonet closure, which constitutes a security for the closure by lateral expansion of the cap,
The washer 7 is provided with a circular projection 14 penetrating into a circular groove 15 provided in the elastic plug, for the purpose of centering the plug and the pipe 6. and I slow down a rotational movement of the pipe with respect to the plug or vice -versa,
In a modified embodiment, the washer 8 is deprived of tabs and to facilitate the introduction of the closure into the tube 1, as well as the engagement of the plug in the end of the collar. 2, pipe 6 has flats 16
