Process for the production of a cobalt-containing azo dye. It was found that a new, valuable cobalt-containing azo dye is obtained by using the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0007
lets cobalt donor act in such a way that a cobalt-containing azo dye is formed which contains two monoazo dye molecules bound to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new dye forms. a water-soluble powder that dyes wool from slightly alkaline, neutral or acetic acid baths in brown-yellow shades.
The monoazo dye used as starting material and corresponding to the above formula can be prepared by coupling the 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone using methods known per se, eg. B. by means of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite, diazotized 2-aniino-l-oxybenzene-5-methyIsulfon be prepared.
The treatment with the cobalt-releasing agents is carried out according to the existing procedure in such a way that a cobalt-containing dye is produced which contains two dye molecules bound to one atom of cobalt in a complex.
Accordingly, the metallization is expediently carried out with such cobalt-releasing agents and by such methods that experience has shown that complex cobalt compounds of this composition are obtained. It is generally advisable to use less than one atom of cobalt per molecule of dye and / or to perform the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium.
Complex cobalt compounds of aliphatic diacids or oxycarboxylic acids are used as cobalt-releasing agents, e.g. B. complex cobalt compounds of tartaric acid or preferably simple cobalt salts such as cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate, if necessary also freshly precipitated cobalt hydroxide.
Example: 18.7 parts of 2-amino-1.-oxybenzene-5-methylsulfone are dissolved in 100 parts of water and, after the addition of 22 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid at 0 to 5, with an aqueous Solution of 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite diazotized. With.
Diazo solution neutralized with sodium carbonate is poured at 10 to 12 into a solution of 17.6 parts of 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 50 parts of water and 14.0 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution. The coupling is very quick. The dye is deposited by adding sodium chloride.
The filtered paraffin paste is suspended in 600 parts of water and dissolved by adding 100 parts by volume of 2N sodium hydroxide solution and heating.
300 parts of a 70% cobalt sulfate solution are added to the approximately 80 warm dye solution. a cobalt content of 1.05%. The complex formation is over after a short time, and the cobalt compound of the dye can be separated out by adding sodium chloride and dilute acetic acid.
