process for the production of a metal-containing azo dye. It has been found that a new, valuable metal-containing azo dye is obtained by using the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0009
cobalt releasing agents like that. so that an azo dye containing cobalt is formed,
which contains two monoazo dye molecules bound to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new dye forms a water-soluble powder that dyes wool from slightly alkaline, neutral or acetic acid baths in brown-yellow shades.
The monoazo dye used as starting material and corresponding to the above formula can be prepared by coupling the 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone with methods known per se, eg. B. by means of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite diazotized 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4-sulfonic acid methylamide Herge provides.
The 1- (δ-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone used here can be obtained by methods known per se, e.g. B. by reducing diazotized 3-chloroaniline and condensing the 3-chlorophenylhydrazine formed with acetoacetic acid amide or acetoacetic esters to give the desired pyrazolone.
The treatment with the cobalt-releasing agents is carried out according to the present process in such a way that a cobalt-containing dye is produced which contains two paraffin molecules bound to one atom of cobalt in a complex. Accordingly, the metallization is expediently carried out with such cobalt-releasing agents and by methods which, according to experience, provide complex cobalt compounds of this composition.
It is generally advisable to use less than one atom of cobalt per molecule of dye and to perform the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium. Complex cobalt compounds of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids or oxycarboxylic acids, z.
B. complex cobalt compounds of tartaric acid or preferably simple cobalt salts, such as cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate, if necessary, freshly precipitated cobalt hydroxide. example:
20.2 parts of 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4-snlfon- säuremethylamid are dissolved in 50 parts of water and 14 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid and at 0 to 5 with an aqueous solution of 6,
9 parts of sodium nitrite diazotized. The diazo suspension neutralized with sodium carbonate is dissolved at 10 to 12 in a solution of 22 parts of 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 50 parts. Poured in water and 14.0 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution. The coupling is very quick.
The dye is deposited by adding sodium chloride.
The filtered dye paste is slurried in 600 parts of water and dissolved by adding 100 parts by volume of 2N sodium hydroxide solution and warming the egg. The approximately.
30 warm dye solution is mixed with 300 parts of a 70 warm cobalt sulfate solution with a cobalt content anyway. of 1.3%. The complex compound is terminated after a short time. and the cobalt compound of the dye can be deposited by adding sodium chloride and dilute acetic acid.
