Additional patent to main patent no. 301440. Process for the production of an azo dye containing cobalt. It has been found that a new, valuable, cobalt-containing azo dye is obtained by using the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0006
lets cobalt donor act in such a way that a cobalt-containing azo dye is formed which contains two monoazo dye molecules bound to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new dye forms a water-soluble powder that dyes wool from neutral to acetic acid baths in gray-blue tones, which are characterized by good lightfastness and excellent wash, carbonization and decatur fastness.
The monoazo dye used as starting material and corresponding to the above formula. can by coupling the 1-benzoylsulfonylamino-7-oxynaphthalene with methods known per se, for. B. 5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene dianotated by means of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite.
The treatment with the cobalt-releasing agents takes place according to the present method in such a way that a cobalt-containing dye is produced which contains less than one atom of cobalt in complex bond per molecule of dye. Accordingly, the metallization is expediently carried out with such cobalt-releasing agents and by such methods which, experience has shown, provide complex cobalt compounds of this composition.
It is generally advisable to use less than one, but at least half an atom of cobalt for a molecule of a dye and / or perform the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium.
Complex cobalt compounds of aliphatic oxycarboxylic acids or simple cobalt salts such as cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate and, if appropriate, freshly precipitated cobalt hydroxide, are expediently used as cobalt-releasing agents. example:
46.4 parts of the dye obtained from dianotized 5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene and 1-benzenesulfonyl-a.mino-7-oxynaphthalene are dissolved in 2000 parts of water with the addition of 8 parts of sodium hydroxide and dissolved 80 heated. To the violet solution obtained, 100 parts of a 80 warm solution of cobalt sulfate with a cobalt content of 3.251 / o are added. After half to one hour stirring at 80, the metallization is complete. The green-blue solution is neutralized by adding acetic acid and then evaporated.
The dye used in this example can be prepared, for example, as follows: 15.4 parts of 5-nitro-2-amino-l-oxybenzene who are suspended in 150 parts of water and 20 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid and at 5 to 10 with diazotized a concentrated solution of 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite. The diazo compound neutralized by adding sodium carbonate is added to a solution of 30, cooled with ice to 0
3 parts of 1-benzenesulfonylamino-7-oxynaphthalene in 52 parts by volume of 2N sodium hydroxide solution and 30 parts by volume of 2N sodium carbonate solution. After the coupling has ended, the dye formed is filtered off and washed with 10% sodium chloride solution.
