Process for the preparation of a metal-containing azo dye. It has been found that a new, valuable metal-containing azo dye is obtained by using the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0005
l@oba.ltabgebendemittel in such a way that a cobalt-containing azo dye is created, which contains two monoazo dye molecules complexed to a cobalt atom.
The new dye forms a water-soluble powder that dyes wool from a weakly alkaline, neutral or acetic acid bath in pure purple tones with excellent ash, decatur and carbonization fastness.
The monoazo dye used as starting material and corresponding to the above formula can be prepared by coupling the 5,8-dichloro-l-oxynaphthalene using methods known per se, e.g. B. 2-Amino-1-oxybenzene-5-sulphonsätirea.tnicl dianotated by means of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite.
The treatment with the cobalt-releasing agents is carried out according to the present process in such a way that a cobalt-containing dye is produced which contains less than one atom of cobalt in a complex bond per molecule of dye. Accordingly, the metallization is expediently carried out using such cobalt-releasing agents and using methods which, experience has shown, give complex cobalt compounds of this composition.
It is generally advisable to use less than one, but at least 1/2 atom of cobalt on one molecule of a dye and / or perform the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium. Complex cobalt compounds of aliphatic oxycarboxylic acids or simple cobalt salts, such as cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate, and optionally also freshly precipitated cobalt hydroxide, are expediently used as cobalt-releasing agents.
Example: 18.8 parts of 2-amino-l-oxybeiizole-5-sulfonic acid amide are suspended in 200 parts of water and 15 parts of 10N hydrochloric acid and, at 0 to 5, with 25 parts by volume of 4N sodium dianotized nitrite solution. The diazo solution neutralized by adding sodium carbonate is allowed to run into a.
Ice to 0 ge cooled solution of 21.3 parts of 5,8-Diehlor-l-oxynaphtIialin, 4 parts of sodium hydroxide, 5.3 parts of sodium carbonate in 200 parts of water. When the coupling is complete, the completely precipitated dye is filtered off and dried. It is a black-violet powder that dissolves in water with violet, in dilute sodium hydroxide solution with a bluish red and in concentrated sulfuric acid with a green-green color.
20.6 parts of the dye thus obtained are dissolved in 500 parts of 80 warm water with the addition of 4 parts of sodium hvdrox-d, and 50 parts of a cobalt sulfate solution with a cobalt content of 3.25% are added. After about half an hour of stirring at 70 to 80, the metallization is complete.
The violet dye solution obtained is, if necessary, clarified by filtration and then evaporated to dryness.
