3 Teilen Natriumcarbonat in 200 Teilen Wasser.
Process for the production of a cobalt-containing azo carbate. It has been found that a new, valuable, cobalt-containing azo dye is obtained by using the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0006
lets cobalt donor act in such a way that a cobalt-containing azo dye is formed which contains two monoazo dye molecules bound to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new dye forms a water-soluble powder that dyes wool from a weakly alkaline, neutral or acetic acid bath in corinthian-colored shades of good lightfastness and excellent wetfastness, carbonization and deca fastness.
The monoazo dye used as starting material and corresponding to the above formula can be prepared by coupling the 5,8-dichloro-1-oxynaphthalene using methods known per se, eg. B. by means of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite, diazotized 2-amino-1-oxy-benzene-4-methybulfone can be produced.
The treatment with the cobalt-releasing agents takes place according to the present method in such a way that a cobalt-containing dye is produced which contains less than one atom of cobalt in complex bond per molecule of dye. Accordingly, the metallization is expediently carried out with such cobalt-releasing agents and by methods which, experience has shown, provide complex cobalt compounds of this composition.
It is generally advisable to use less than one, but at least 1 / atom of cobalt on a molecule of a dye and / or to carry out the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium. Cobalt salts such as cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate, and if necessary freshly precipitated cobalt hydroxide, are expediently used as cobalt-releasing agents.
Example: 18.7 parts of 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4-methylsulfone are suspended in 200 parts of water and 15 parts of 10N hydrochloric acid and, at 0 to 5, with 25 parts by volume of 4N sodium nitrite solution diazotized. The diazo solution, neutralized by adding sodium carbonate, is allowed to run into a solution, cooled to 0 with ice, of 21.3 parts of 5,8-dichloro-1-oxynaphthalene, 4 parts of sodium hydroxide, 5,
3 parts of sodium carbonate in 200 parts of water. After the coupling has ended, the dyestuff which has precipitated out is filtered off and dried.
20.55 parts of the dye thus obtained are dissolved in 500 parts of 80 warm water with the addition of 4 parts of sodium hydroxide, and 50 parts of a cobalt sulfate solution with a cobalt content of 3.25% are added. After about half an hour of stirring at 70 to 80, the metallization is complete. If necessary, the solution obtained is filtered until clear and evaporated to dryness.
