Mécanisme sélecteur <I>à réglage</I> manuel.
Hécanisme <I>de sélection à</I> réglage mécanique. Après que le réglage du mécanisme qui vient d'être décrit soit terminé et en manceu- vrant l'une des touches de commande du fonctionnement;
Abaissement <I>du</I> chariot.
<I>Ensemble</I> multiplicateur.
Le dispositif multiplicateur comprend éga lement des organes d'exploration 1210 et 1217 (fig. 8) qui, comme décrit à propos du méca nisme sélecteur à commande mécanique, agis sent pour analyser la position de la came sé lectrice 146 dans des conditions telles que, quand Lm volet sélecteur 236 est libéré de .son engagement avec les plateaux 172 par l'arbre de réglage 431;
Une came unique 2021 (fig.
Une double came 2023 (fig.
A -cet effet,
Accumulateur <I>et</I> compteur.
Mécanisme<I>de</I> détermination <I>des</I> décimales.
Variante <I>de</I> la <I>commande du</I> multiplicateur.
Macbine to calculate. The object of the present invention is a calculating machine comprising a product register provided with numbered wheels, means for indicating the decimal point of the product for this register, as well as actuating means for the latter.
Heretofore, the position of the decimal point in the product of a multiplication has been most often determined by mentally adding the number of decimal to decimal places of the multiplier and multiplicand, and then indicating the position of the decimal point in the product by moving a needle or decimal point indicator along the product register to point to a number of locations equal to the sum thus determined. This not only results in additional handling and mental strain on the part of the operator, but is the source of frequent errors.
The calculating machine according to the invention is characterized by means for adjusting the multiplicand for said actuating means, by means for adjusting the decimal of the multiplicand, by means for adjusting the multiplicator for controlling said means of 'actuation, by means for adjusting the decimal places of the multiplier and by means jointly controlled by the means for adjusting the decimal places of the multiplicand and of the multiplier and by the means for adjusting the multiplier, by means of the mechanism of .
movement of the carriage, to determine the position of said means indicating the decimal places of the product in relation to the numeric wheels, in order to indicate the position of the decimal point in a product appearing in the register.

Selector mechanism <I> adjustable </I> manual. The calculating machine shown is of the type with control by keys, in which a device is provided for first determining on a keyboard one of the factors of the calculation to be carried out, then for operating it. machine by operating a separate control bar or key in a manner indicated by the character and value of another factor involved in the calculation.
The mechanism for determining the first factor in the calculation can be thought of as comprising a hand-controlled part and a mechanically-controlled part, the former being designed to be brought to a selected control position by pressing suitable keys, while the second is designed to be brought into operation by control keys and to operate the various calculation mechanisms under the control of the mechanism operated by hand.
As shown in fig. 1, the various keys 100 for selecting the values are arranged in a series of rows each comprising ten keys. The number of these rows of keys, nine in the example shown, depends on the amplitude of the factor which must intervene in the calculation carried out by the machine.
Each row of keys comprises a frame 101 (FIG. 2), in which the rods 103 of the keys have the same length, compression springs 102 being mounted on them to normally maintain all the keys 100 in the raised position.
Below the value keys for each of the rows is mounted a bar 120 with differential adjustment (fig. 2) suspended pivotally from the frame 101 by means of two parallel links 128 and 129. This bar 120 has nine divergent notches iden. ticks 130, each of which ends in a slot 131 proportioned so as to receive the end of the corresponding key rod 103, so that the bar 120 is placed by it in the exactly required position.
The rods 103 of the keys 100 are equi distant, and their spacing is slightly greater than that of the successive slots 131, so that each slot 131 is offset by a certain amount with respect to its cooperating key rod, this offset increasing. from the slot at the bottom of the bar 120 to the slot at the top. Thus, by pressing a key of value 100, the bar 120 is pushed to the right (by looking at fig. 2) by a number of steps equal to the value which is represented by the key thus lowered. .
This movement of each of the bars 120 is used to give a mechanical representation of the selected value to correspondingly control the calculation mechanism. For this purpose, an oscillating segment 132 is provided, connected by a tenon 163 to the corresponding bar 120 and articulated on a common shaft 137 extending transversely to the machine and supporting similar segments associated with the bars 120 of the bars. other rows of keys.
A tension spring 164, disposed between segment 132- and a button suitably supported by. the frame of the machine, normally maintains this segment and the bar 120 in the position shown in fig. 2, when all the keys belonging to the corresponding row are released.
Each of the segments 132 is provided at its opposite ends with toothed sectors 138 and 1.39 which serve to transmit the movement of the bar 120 forming a differential respectively to a pinion 135 connected to a check dial, 140 mounted to be able to turn on a shaft. 141 and, via a pinion 151, to a cam 146 which takes its position under the effect of this movement to give a mechanical representation of the value generated on the associated row of keys.
Rotating decimal markers <B> 113 </B> (fig. 2 and 5) are placed between each row of keys. Each of these markers revolves at its front end in a notch formed in a rod 1.04 forming a console fixed by screws 105 to a cross member 108.
Near its rear end, each marker 113 is journaled in a notch made in a second bayonet 106 forming a console fixed to the top of the various key-holder frames 101. A finger piece 114 is fixed to each marker 113 and passes through a cover 115, which makes it possible to rotate the decimal marker to expose one or the other of its sides, the markers being represented in the various positions in fig. 5.
One of the sides of these markers is colored with a color corresponding to the coloring of the upper frame 101, while their other side has a different color, which makes it possible, by rotating the selected markers, to adjust the keyboard. any desired way.
Mechanism <I> selection at </I> mechanical adjustment. After the adjustment of the mechanism which has just been described is completed and by activating one of the operation control keys;
it is possible to start the part of the machine which is actuated mechanically and which operates under the control of the cams 146 to ensure the introduction of a value, determined on the keypad,. in the accumulator register. As this motor-driven mechanism is described in detail in Swiss Patent No. 198766, only a brief description of its operation will be given here.
Each cam system 146 includes a pinion 151 and five cams, one of which is shown at 152 (Fig. 2). Each of these cams has on its perimeter two upper parts 160 and two lower parts 161. These cams are staggered, so that no upper part or lower part of a cam is in alignment with a cam. upper part or lower part of another cam.
The various cams provided on each system 146 are arranged such that, when a key of value 100 is lowered, the pinion 151 meshing with the sector 139 rotates the system 146 to a position in which one of the upper parts of one of the cams is located in the path of a nozzle 1211 of an arm belonging to a group of five feeler arms 1210 on the side of the system 146 or in the path of a nozzle 1219 belonging to one arms of a group of five feeler arms 1217 on the opposite side of the system 146.
When one of the various operation control buttons is lowered, such as one of the buttons 2002 controlling the multiplication (fig. 1 and 7), a clutch dog 394 (fig. 17) pivots under the action. a suitable mechanism for ensuring the engagement of a cyclically controlled clutch 430, the details of which are also shown in the aforesaid patent.
When engaging the engagement clutch 430, the energy supplied by a drive motor 640 (Fig. 18) is transmitted through a train of elements comprising gears 645, 646. , 647 and 362, the latter being suitably connected to a pinion 648 meshing with a pinion 430 'via the clutch 430 and with the adjusting shaft 431.
On the shaft 431 are keyed a certain number of pairs of complementary cams identical to the cams 1220 and 1221 (fig. 2). Each of these pairs of cams is provided with an associated follower member 1224 pivoting on a transverse axis 1225 and provided with a roller 1222 engaged with the cam 1220 and a second roller 1223 engaged with the cam 1221.
When the shaft 431 rotates, the follower members 1224 pivot in the direction of clockwise and impart, through the intermediary of links 1226, a pivoting movement in the opposite direction of clockwise to a series. levers 1214 mounted on a voting shaft 1215. A shaft 1213 is supported by the levers 1214 and carries groups of feeler arms 1210 which can pivot on it and one of which. is placed next to the cam system 146.
When the feeler arm 1210 is moved to the left by the shaft 1213, each of the jaws 1211 integral with the feeler arms 1210 engages the periphery of the corresponding cam belonging to the system 146, which forces each feeler arm 1210 to pivot around the point of contact between its respective beak and the periphery of its associated cam. The remainder of the advance movement of the shaft 1213 under the action of the follower member 1224 ensures the advancement of the lower end of the feeler arm 1210.
This movement is transmitted by means of a link 1216 to pivot a second feeler arm 1217 placed in alignment with each of the feeler arms 1210. The arms 1217 pivot clockwise around it. 'a fixed shaft 1218 until their beaks 1219 come to bear against the periphery of the respective cam at a point approximately diametrically opposite to that of the associated feeler arm 1210 against which the beak 1211 bears.
As described above, each of the cam systems 146 is arranged such that only one of the associated pairs of feeler arms 1210 and 1217 bears by its respective jaws against the upper parts and the lower parts of a cam for any position of the value keys 100 in the respective key section. Thus, one of the feeler arms 1210 pivots at a considerable angle with respect to its support shaft 1213 on one side or the other of a median position depending on whether its beak 1211 bears against a part. upper 160 or a lower part 161 of its respective cam.
All the other arms 1210 belonging to the system are, because their nozzles are kept at the same spacing with respect to the cam support shaft 159, maintained in their respective middle positions, which forces their split upper ends to come to grips. roughly: the position shown in fig. 2.
Each of the feeler arms 1210 is connected by a notched slide 1206 to a pivoting plate 172 sir a sleeve 169 journalled on a shaft 170. On each plate 172 is mounted a series of pinions 174 and 173, the first meshing with a pinion 189 mounted. on the sleeve 169.
It can be seen from the above that four of each group of five of the selector plates 172 will be kept in the middle position, roughly as shown in fig. 2, while the fifth will be moved forward or backward until its lower pinion 173 meshes for example with an aligned pinion 175 mounted on a shaft 166 or with an aligned pinion 176 mounted on a shaft 167 .
The pinion 175 belongs to a group of four pinions 177 (fig. 18) keyed to the shaft 166 and arranged to mesh with pinions mounted on four of the selector plates 172. Likewise, the pinion 176 is part of a group of five pinions 178 mounted on the shaft 167 and intended to mesh with pinions provided on the five selector plates 172.
The three gears placed phis to the left, which belong to this last group, are keyed on the shaft 167, while the two gears 188 and 199 placed most to the right can turn freely on the shaft 167 and mesh respectively - with gears -195. . and .200 which are keyed on iul third shaft 168.
Shafts 166, 167 and 168 are connected to motor 640 (Fig. 18) as described below, such that shaft 166 rotates 160 at each duty cycle of. machine and shaft 167 rotates 90 in each machine duty cycle, while shaft 168 only rotates 30 in each duty cycle.
The diameters of. various pinions belonging to the two groups of pinions 1.77 and 178 corresponding to each row of the keyboard are calculated so that, for each cycle of the machine, the pinion <B> 189 </B> (fig. 2) rotates under the action of one of the pinions of group 177 and 178 by a number of steps corresponding to the value of the button <B> 100 </B> which is lowered during a machine cycle. If no key is lowered, the selector plates 172 are arranged so that none of the pinions of the groups 178 and 177 intervene to drive the pins 173.
At the start of the machine's operating cycle and before the rotation of the pinions 189, a pinion 1271 (fig. 2 and 19) with which a pinion 1273 belonging to the accumulator register mechanism engages is lowered under control. tree 431 thanks to him. device described below, so as to mesh with pinions 189 and thereby transmit rotation to a numbered box 194 of the accumulator register which is visible through windows 418 (fig. 1) of the carriage cover .
The tens-bearing mechanism (not shown) conforms to that which is described in detail in the aforementioned patent.
As described above, the various pinions mounted on the shafts 166, 167 and 168 are arranged to be driven by the motor 640 (fig. 18), and there is provided for this purpose a cyclically controlled main clutch shown schematically in 428 (fig. 17 and 18) to control the rotation of these shafts. This clutch 428 is driven with the control 362 already described by the intermediary of a pinion 650 and a pinion 415 connected to the driven side of the clutch - 428.
During each operating cycle of this clutch (half of a turn), a half turn is transmitted to shaft 429, and this angular movement is transmitted in turn by the intermediary of a reversible transmission (not shown) and from pinions 458 and 484 to shaft 166. Shaft 166 drives shaft 167 via pinions 485, 486 and <B> 487. </B> Likewise, shaft 168 is driven by shaft 167 via pinions 488 and 489.
The initiation of the operation of the main clutch 428 is controlled by the adjuster clutch 430, and a cam 747 (fig. 17) is provided for this purpose, keyed on the shaft 431 and coming to bear against a roller 475 carried. by a follower 746 mounted to pivot on a shaft 501 and requested to engage the cam 747 by a tension spring 748.
After the various feeler arms 1210 and 1217 as well as the selector plates 172 have been placed under the control of the complementary cam 1220 and 1221, the cam 747 engages with the follower member 746 which it rotates in the opposite direction of clockwise, which allows its tip 615 to engage in a notch 616 formed in the hammer 395 which pivots on a shaft 611 and is kept normally engaged against the main clutch 428 by the intermediary of a linkage 610 and a tension spring 612.
At the moment when the follower 746 forces the end piece 615 to rotate the hammer 395 to stop its engagement with the clutch 428, the latter couples the shaft 429 with the constantly driven pinion 415 and thus ensures the actuation. of the various control gears 177 and 178.
A suitable device (not shown) is provided for actuating a counter or a multiplier register (fig. 1 and 2), so as to record the number of operating cycles of the main clutch during an operation and thus to highlight the multiplier in multiplication.
This device partly comprises a train of gears 1880, 1877 and 1879 in each column of the register, the last pinion being connected to a bare dial with merot 194 'by means of a tens mechanism (not shown).
Lowering <I> from </I> cart.
The carriage 250 is mounted for transverse movement with respect to the machine frame and the actuating mechanism comprising the pinions 189 by a pair of parallel shafts 259 and 260 which are suitably attached to the carriage and which can slide in bearings formed in respective brackets 257 and 258 extending from the frame of the machine. To allow this transverse movement of the carriage, the aforementioned accumulator register and the pins 1271 and 1273 connected to it are normally kept in the raised position, as shown in FIG. 2.
However, at the start of an operating cycle of the machine and before the rotation of the pinions 189, the pinions 1271 are lowered to mesh with the pinions 189, in order to transmit the rotation to the accumulator register. For this purpose, the accumulator register and the pinions 1271 and 1273 are mounted on a series of plates 266 (fig. <B> 19) </B> pivotally supported on a transverse rod 262 suitably fixed to the carriage 250.
The device for lowering the various plates 266 comprises links 566 sliding at their upper ends on pins 567 and connected at their lower ends to levers 570 by means of a pivot pin 572. Levers 570 are provided of rollers 573 mounted on them to be able to rotate and bearing against cams 574 mounted on the adjustment shaft 431. Thus, the connecting rods 566 are positively pulled down by the operation of the clutch, despite the antagonism of a tension spring 569 attached between tie rods 566 and buttons suitably attached to the machine frame.
Each link 566 is provided with rollers 568 between which is guided a stirrup 269 suitably fixed to the various plates 266 to allow the lowering of the accumulator register, whatever the position of the carriage 250 with respect to the fixed part of the frame.
A suitable device (not shown) is provided to lock the links 566 in their lowest position until the end of one or more cycles of the machine, as determined by the type of calculation being performed. To prevent the carriage from rising too quickly when the links 566 are released from this locking device, a cam 596 is provided. This cam is engaged with a follower arm 597 pinned to a swivel shaft 600 fitted with a series arms 599 also pinned to it and connected by notches 602 to the various rods 566.
Cam 596 rotates under the action of a return clutch shown schematically at 700 (fig. 18 and 19), which is engaged by the movement of the main clutch dog 395 (fig. 17) in the disengaged position by a suitable device, such as that which is described in detail in the above-mentioned patent.
Mechanism <I> moving the carriage. </I> As shown in fig. 22, the pins 362 and 648, actuated by the motor, are mounted to be able to rotate on a shaft 1306, the pinion 648 being mounted on a flange 1307 keyed to the hub of the pinion 362. On the pinion 648 is fixed a support disc curved 1309 to which is welded a ring 1315 with internal teeth. This crown 1315 meshes with three equidistant tellite sa tellite pinions 1316 (fig. 21 and 22) riveted to each of the three shafts 1317. These three shafts pass through holes made in a ratchet wheel 1303 and journal in plates 1318 and 1319.
These plates and the ratchet wheel 1303 are secured by studs 1303a to form a rigid assembly. The planet gears 1316 also mesh with a planetary gear 1320 integral with one of the ends of a sleeve <B> 1321 </B> on the opposite end of which is keyed a second wheel to. ratchet <B> 1305., </B> Sleeve 1321 and ratchet wheel 1305 revolve on shaft 1306.
A toothing 1322 is cut on each shaft 1317; it meshes with a second planetary pinion 1327, to which is fixed a pinion 1324 meshing with a pinion 1326 mounted to be able to rotate on a shaft 1331. This pinion 1326 is held between two friction discs 1330 and 1332 which are keyed on the shaft 1331 A compression spring 1337 is provided to press the discs 1330 and 1332 against the pinion 1326.
Between the compression spring 1337 and the friction disc 1332 there is a keyed disc 1335 sliding on the shaft 1331, a sleeve 1333, a second disc 1362 also keyed sliding on the shaft 1331 and supporting two rollers 1363 diametrically opposed, a washer 1368, a sleeve 1370, a drive disc 1366 keyed neck smoothing on the shaft 1331, a sleeve 1371, finally a washer 1369.
Two locking nuts 1339 are mounted adjustable on the threaded end of the shaft 1331 to adjust the value of the friction applied between the pinion 1326 and its friction discs 1330 and 1332.
The shaft 1331, actuated by the reversible transmission via the pinion 1326, is journaled in a bearing 1340 and in a second bearing -1344 supported by a con sole 1343. A bevel pinion 1341, fixed on the shaft 1331, meshes with a second conical pin 1342 attached to the lower end of a vertical shaft 344.
This shaft rotates in bearings formed in brackets 358 and 1343, and its upper end is fixed to a hub plate 356 on which are mounted rollers 357 capable of engaging between the teeth of a rack 355 suitably. mounted on the .carriage 250. In this way, when the member 356 rotates under the action of the planetary transmission mechanism, the rollers 357 engage between the teeth of the rack 355 and move the carriage 250 laterally either to the left or to the right, following the direction of rotation of the shaft 334.
Shaft 1331 can be selectively rotated in either direction to translate said carriage 250 either to the right or to the left, preventing one or more of the wheels from rolling. chet 1303 and <B> 1805 </B> to turn.
If the ratchet wheel 1303 is immobilized, the rotation of the planetary gears 1316 around the planetary gear 1320 will be prevented, so that these planetary gears will spin crazy to transmit the rotation from da. ring gear 1315 driven by pinion 362 via their solid pinions 1322 to planetary pinion 132.7, so that pinion 1324 will rotate in a certain direction. If, on the contrary,
. it is the other ratchet wheel 1305 which. is immobilized, which immobilizes the pinion 1320 which is integral with it, the rotation of the internally toothed ring gear 1315 will cause the planetary pinions 1316 to advance relative to the fixed planetary pinion 1320 with which they mesh,. which will make them rotate on their own centers and will also rotate them around the planetary gear 1320, thereby driving the gears 1324 in the opposite direction.
To ensure this selective movement of the carriage, a clutch member 1301 is provided (fig. 21). This organ is provided with dog skies 1302 and 1304 protruding from it and the first of which is designed to attack and immobilize the hook wheel 1303 when the organ 1301 rotates clockwise (looking at fig. 21),
while the other hammer 1304 is designed to attack and immobilize the ratchet wheel 1305 when the member 1301 rotates counterclockwise.
If the clutch member 1301 is kept in a neutral position (as shown in fig. 21), that is to say in a position for which neither hammer 1302 nor hammer 1.304 are engaged, the differential turns crazy and the displacement mechanism is not activated.
Means are provided for either of the dogs 1302 and 1304 to be maintained in engagement with its respective ratchet wheel during approximately the first three-quarters of a cycle of movement to positively ensure the completion of n 'any movement initiated, regardless of when the control member 1301 is biased towards its neutral position after having been moved a first time to its control position.
On the leftward extension of the clutch control member 1301 (fig. 21) there is a lug 1354 projecting laterally to be attacked by the upper surface or the lower surface of the intended projection 1353. on a latch 1350 pivotally mounted in 1351 and requested to engage with the ear 1354 by a spring 1352 (fig. 20 and 21).
When the controller 1301 pivots either clockwise or counterclockwise from its neutral position which is shown, the protrusion 1353, which is normally held in the position shown by the ear 1354, suddenly comes to occupy its locking position either above or below ear 1354, under the action of the tension of the spring 1352 and.
thus blocks the organ 1301 to prevent it from returning to its neutral position until the displacement has progressed about three-quarters of its release cycle. At this time, it is released by lock 1350.
Means are provided for applying additional tension to the spring 1352 during the first part of the displacement cycle, and for this purpose a centering member 1364 (fig. 21) is used to the left end of which the end is attached. upper of spring 1352. This centering member 1364 is pivotally supported by its right end (not shown) and is held in engagement with the two diametrically opposed rollers 1363 by spring 1352.
When the shaft 1331 begins to rotate at the start of a travel cycle, one of the rollers 1363, carried by the disc which is keyed on the shaft 1331, pushes the centering member 1364 upwards, this which has the effect of increasing the tension of the spring 1352.
Means are also provided for withdrawing the latch 1350 from its locking engagement with the clutch control member 1301. When about three quarters of a displacement cycle is completed. There is provided for this purpose a cam 1334 (FIG. 20) having two diametrically opposed lobes and rotatably mounted on the sleeve 1333.
This cam is actuated by the disc 1335 keyed on the shaft 1331, in order to push back a beak 1357 integral with the lower end of the latch 1350 at the end of approximately three quarters of a displacement cycle.
To ensure the same cyclical operating time of the clutch member 1350 for the reverse rotation of the shaft 1331, the disc 1335 is provided with two shoulders 1360 separated by approximately 180, so that a lug 1361 integral with the cam 1334 is found, when the shaft 1331 rotates clockwise, attacked by the shoulder 1360 integral with the opposite sides of the disc 1335 (fig. 20), but only after this The disc has run about three-eighths of a turn, which is roughly three-quarters of a cycle of travel.
Thus, although the actuation of the carriage movement mechanism ends at approximately the position corresponding to three-quarters of the cycle, the actuating train continues to rotate for the remainder of its cycle under the action of the centering member 1364 which is pressed by the spring 1352 against the rollers 1363 of the disc 7.362. In addition to completing the travel cycle, the centering member 1364 also serves to prevent movement beyond the end of this cycle, so that the carriage always comes to rest in the operating position.
The clutch member 1301 is articulated in 1513 (FIG. 21) on a short link 1511 provided with two opposite lugs 1510. A second link 1374 is juxtaposed to the link 1511 and is provided with lugs 1510 of identical shape to the previous ones. The connecting rods 1374 and 1511 are resiliently secured by a compression spring 1512 mounted on the four legs 1510. The connecting rod 1.374 is articulated at 1375 'on a lever 1375 mounted to be able to pivot on a fixed shaft 1376.
A device is provided for returning the clutch control member 1301 to its neutral position (shown) when it is not immobilized in the clutch control position by the lock 1350 or by the system described. below. This comprises a centering member 1403 mounted to pivot at 1404 on the frame of the machine. A tab 1403a extends laterally from the centering hole 1403 to engage the lever 1375 above the shaft 1376, while an adjustable tab 1417, provided with a part <B> de- </B> scope 1416 mounted on the lower end of the centering member 1403, attacks the lever <B> 1.375 </B> below tree 1376.
A tension spring 1400 is attached between an ear 1400a integral with the centering member and a button 1400b provided on the frame of the machine to urge the centering member against the lever 1375. In this way, the centering member trage 1403 tends to keep lever 13 "r5 in a neutral position, in which the clutch control unit 1301 is at rest and automatically recalls this member to this neutral position as soon as the lock 1350 is released, to provided that the link 1374 is not prevented from moving by another displacement control mechanism.
<i> Together </I> multiplier.
The machine shown comprises its automatic multiplication control mechanism comprising a row of self-acting multiplier keys 2002 shown in FIG. 1 in the vicinity of the right side of the machine and under whose control the multiplication operation can be carried out automatically.
These multiplier keys 2002 are provided with rods 1876 slidably mounted in a key holder frame 1877 (Figs. 6, 7 and 8) and each carries a decimal setting key 2000 described in detail below. Due to the immediate proximity of the 2000 and 2002 keys, the latter are provided with concave key covers, while the former have convex key covers (as shown in fig. 7),
in order to allow the operator to distinguish the two types of touches by simple palpation.
Each of the keys 2002 is normally maintained in the raised position by a compression spring 1878 extending between the lower edge of the key holder frame 1877 and a shoulder integral with the rod 1876 of the key.
The section comprising the multiplier keys includes the usual differential adjustable bar 120 (Fig. 8) which is operated by the multiplier keys of the values 2 - 9 to move the segment. selector .132 mounted on shaft 137:
As the machine is normally conditioned for a single cycle operation, no control of the selection of the multipliers by the key of 1 is necessary. The selector segment 132 is substantially analogous to the -sembla ble member shown in FIG. 2, except that it does not include an upper arm for actuating a control dial.
As described in connection with the manually operated selector mechanism, the pi voting segment 132 likewise acts to rotate a selector cam 146 similar to that which has been described in detail with reference to FIG. 2.
The multiplier device also comprises exploration members 1210 and 1217 (fig. 8) which, as described in connection with the mechanically operated selector mechanism, act to analyze the position of the selector cam 146 under conditions such as , when the selector flap 236 is released from its engagement with the plates 172 by the adjusting shaft 431;
in a way which is not described, the active arm 1210 ensures the positioning of the corresponding plates 172 in the usual manner. The plates 172 pivot on the shaft 170 and carry 2010 and 2011 pinions mounted to be able to rotate on them, the first of which meshes with the 2009 pinions (fig. 8 and 18).
The 2009 pinions are paired to form a rigid assembly by a 2012 sleeve supported by the shaft 170, this 2012 sleeve being actuated by the twelfth speed shaft 168 via a train. of gears (fig. 9 and 18) comprising Lm pinion 2025 mounted on shaft 168, idler pins 2026 and 2027 and a driven pinion 2028 attached to sleeve 2012.
As shaft 168 rotates whenever the main clutch is engaged, 2011 sprockets (fig, 8) are driven by 2009 sprocket.
As discussed in connection with the mechanically operated selector mechanism previously described, any of the group's chainrings 172 can be selectively moved to engage the 2011 pinion carried by it with pinions which, in this case, are supported by. sleeves rotatably mounted on the shaft 166 and 167. The movement of these pins is. used to control the number of operating cycles of the main clutch 428 and thereby to provide for a multiplication or multiple addition of any factor entered into the keypad.
The driven sleeve rotatably mounted on the shaft 166 rotating at half speed (fig. 9 and 13) carries pinions 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 joined to it to form an assembly, while the driven sleeve rotated tion on shaft 167 rotating at quarter speed carries pinions 2017, 2018 and 2019 united to form a whole. These sprockets are mounted on shafts 166 and 167 for convenience and are not connected to them.
A 2020 pinion is also rotatably mounted on shaft 167, but it is not connected to the sleeve which carries the pinions <B> 2017, '2018 </B> and 2019. The ratio of these gears 2013 to. 2019 inclusive, relative to the pinion that ensures their drive, is calculated to allow them to ensure; Selection ratios ranging from a multiplier 9 to a multiplier 3, while the pinion 2020 constitutes, as described below, in combination with another mechanism, the selection mechanism of the 2.
It can be seen from the foregoing that, according to 1: a selection which has been made, the LM of the plates 172 is moved either to the right or to the left (by looking at FIG. 8), to come into engagement with in, or the other of the 2013 to 2020 penguins. The other plates 172 remain in their neutral position shown in fig. 8.
A single 2021 cam (fig. 9 and 13) is attached to the 2013 to 2016 pinions which carry the sleeves and is designed, as described below, to rotate a 2022 elbow lever capable of performing a universal movement on the frame. thanks to a loosely mounted stud and a spring 2029, in order to release the main clutch and stop the machine, as described below, after the cam 2021 has made a single revolution.
Thus, for example, the pinion 2014 which provides seven actuations of the main clutch and which controls the multiplication by the value 7 makes it one revolution while the main clutch 428 (fig. 17 and 18) makes seven. As the cam 2021 is connected to the pinion 2014, it also performs a single revolution and acts, at the end of this rotation, to rotate the; elbow lever 2022.
A double cam 2023 (fig. 9 and 13) is included in the same assembly as the 2017 pins, <B> 2018 </B> and 2019 and acts after half a turn to rotate the same angled lever 2022. This is how, for example, the pinion 2018 actually acts to control the multiplication by the value 4, the main clutch making four turns. During the four rotations of the main clutch, pinion 2018 and cam 2023 make only a half turn. At the end of this half-turn, the cam 2023 acts to make the elbow lever 2022 pi vote.
The pinion 2020 provided for .la multiplication by the value 2 is connected to a triangular member 2024 (fig. 9, 10 and 13) "cooperating with a roller 2077 mounted on the upwardly directed arm of the angled lever 2022. This member 2024 is designed to be able, when the pinion 2020 is actuated, to rotate the elbow lever 2022 during the second operating cycle of the main clutch.
By pressing any multiplier key from 1 to 9 inclusive, the clutch 430 (fig. 17 and 18) is engaged at the same time as the engine is started up thanks to a transmission. suitable (not shown), such as that which is described in detail in the aforementioned patent.
The multiplier device comprises a bar 2030 (fig. 6) occupying a position allowing it to be attacked by the rod of any multiplier key 2002 from the value 1 up to the value 9 inclusive, and it is mounted for be able to perform a parallel movement thanks to pivoting levers 2044 articulated at its ends.
A spring 2032 is stretched between an extension of the front lever 2044 and the frame. of the machine (not shown); it rotates these levers clockwise, which normally keeps bar 2030 in the raised position. The levers 2044 are provided with extensions 1900 between which is articulated a stabilizing link 1901. This link oscillates with the bar 2030 to prevent any play in its articulation capable of producing a movement deviating from the rigorous parallelism when pressing. the various multiplier keys which come into contact with the bar 2030 at points spaced apart from its length.
The mechanism ensuring the engagement of the clutch when lowering any multiplier button from 1 to 9 com takes a rod 2033 (fig. 6 and 12) which pivots at its right end on a lug secured to the bar 2030 and is supported in the vicinity of its left end by a 1907 link which hangs below a. the sink. 2034 as part of a system comprising levers 2034, _2035 and 2036.
As shown in detail in Figs. 11 and 12, the levers 2034 and 2035 pivot on a common axis 2037 supported by the pendant part of the frame of the keys. The lever 2036 pivots in 1906 on the lever 2035. The levers 2034 and 2035 respectively include projections 2038 and 2039 between which there is a spring 2040 (fig. 6 <B>) </B> whose compression pushes the levers apart. Likewise, lever 2036 has a protrusion 2041 and lever 2035 has a protrusion 2042. A spring 2043 is compressed between protrusions 2041 and 2042.
A tab 2045 integral with the lever 2035 limits the movement of the lever 2036, and a tab 2116 integral with this same lever 2035 limits the movement of the lever 2035 with respect to:
him. The lever 2035 also comprises an ear 2046 which is engaged under the bar 2030 and which is lowered when this bar is itself lowered by the operation of a multiplier key. When the 0 multiplier key is pressed (fig. 6; 14 and 15), the lever 2035 pivots downwards under the action of a lever 2090 placed under the rod of the 0 key; -this lever swivels en.2091 and carries a lug 2093 on- mounting the left end of lever 2035.
The operation of the clutch 430 is placed under the control of the bar 2030 and the mechanism ensuring the locking of a multiplier key in the lowered position. Has this effect,
The clutch 430 is engaged by lowering one end of the rod 2033 by means of the bar 2030 and the other end of this rod by the key locking mechanism described below. The connecting rod 2033 is placed under a lug 2048 integral with the arms of a lever 2047 which pivots in 1909 and is biased counterclockwise around its pivot by a tension spring 1956.
Lever 2047 is provided with an arm 1950 directed towards the rear and cut with a slot 1951, through which passes a lug carried by a floating member 1952 supported at one end by a rod 1953 which pivots freely on a button 1954 carried by the frame of the machine.
When the rod 2033 is lowered to the full stroke, it allows the lever 2047 to be pulled counterclockwise by its spring 1956, which raises the idler 1952 up to a position in which it can be attacked by a ratchet wheel 1957 (fig. 6 and 18) constantly actuated by the motor 640 whenever the circuit of this motor is closed.
The 1957 ratchet abruptly pushes the 1952 return or gane to the left (keeping fig. 6), so that its opposite end hits a button 1958 secured to a lever 1959. This is keyed on a shaft 501 which is also keyed .le dog 394 of clutch 430 (Fig. 17), so that this pivoting of the lever has the effect of releasing the hammer relative to the clutch and causing its automatic engagement.
When the parallel bar 2030 is lowered by any of the multiplier keys 1 to 9, the lever 2035 with a lug 2046 (fig. 6 and 11) placed below the bar 2030 also swivels under the effect of this movement and of the compression spring 2040, which slightly rotates the lever 2034 and forces the tab 2062 to enter a notch 2092 of the key locking bar 2055 which is slidably mounted on the underside of the 1877 building,
which moves the bar to the left until a slot made in it and engaging the key being lowered butts against a tab 2015 (fig. 8) integral with the stem of the key in movement. This has the effect of stopping any further movement of the lever 2034 and subjecting the spring 2040 to further compression. This movement is sufficient to cause a notch 2057 out of the path of the tab 2061.
At the moment when the tab 2015 integral with the key in the process of lowering is moved below the locking bar 2055, the spring 2040 can relax and causes the lever 2034 to pivot, which simultaneously brings the locking bar. blocking over the 2015 lug and lowers the left end of the 2033 rod which is connected to it by the 1907 rod.
Since both ends of link 2033 are now lowered, lever 2047 can vote to a sufficient extent under the action of its spring 1956 to cause the clutch to engage. Lock bar 2055 keeps the button pressed, and all other buttons up, down until it is retracted to the right (looking at Figs. 6 and 8). To operate, release the keys.
multiplier blocked, it is necessary to provide a device which is actuated when either the shaft 431 of the clutch or the movement of the carriage mechanism (fig. 22) acts to bring back the locking bar 2055.
As the operator can lower a second key before the machine has completed the operation which was initiated by lowering the first key and can press up and down a third key before the second is. released, a special adaptation of the locking bar control device to the particular requirements imposed by this operation is necessary.
The return to the rear of the bar 2055 to release the keys is provided by a lever 2058 (fig. 6) mounted on a pivot 2059 and arranged to turn clockwise when either the clutch 430 acts, or the mechanism for moving the carriage.
As the shaft 431 of this clutch (fig. 17) makes a half-turn at the start of the multiplication operation, a cam 747 fixed on it causes a pivoting, by a roller 745, a lever 746 journaled to be able to pivot. on a shaft 501 to which an arm 2060 is attached (fig. 6). The latter thus attacks an ear 2072 integral with the lever 2058 in order to rotate the cams.
During each operation of movement of the carriage, and as indicated below, a lever 1396 (fig. 6) receives a counterclockwise impulse. This lever is provided with an arm 1394 capable of attacking a second ear 1399 integral with the lever 2058.
In the vicinity of the upper end of lever 2058 is an extension 2054 pivoting on it and having a side portion engaging a notch of locking bar 2055. A spring 2058a, compressed between lever 2058 and the extension 2054, normally maintains the latter against a stop 2058b integral with the lever, so that the latter and its extension are. usually move en bloc. However, if lever 2058 "receives an excessive blow, the upper end of the slot in lock bar 2055 is brought against the key shank so that spring 2058a flexes.
A spring 1960 normally biases the lever 2058 in a clockwise direction and prevents the locking bar 2055 from coming to occupy its locking worm position.
A device is also provided to prevent the locking of a key in the down position in the event that it is held down until after the release mechanism described above has operated. The lever 2036 (fig. 6 and 11) which pivots on the lever 2035 at the point marked 1906 is provided with a lug 2061 arranged to engage in a notch 2057 of the bar 2055 when the latter is moved towards the bar. .right by lever 2058 and prevented the bar from returning to the key lock position, as long as the key is kept down.
Remember that the lever 2035 pivots counterclockwise around its pivot 2037, thanks to a downward movement of the parallel bar 2030 and that its movement is transmitted by the intermediary of the spring 2043 to the lever 2036.
Note that if the operator lowers a locked multiplication key 2002, the lowering occurs at the very moment a notch 2057 is moved to the right by the very slight extra distance that is required to ensure its engagement by the lug 2061. .
To prevent the latter from engaging in the notch 2057 and hampering the operation of the bar 2055, a pawl 2069 (fig. 6) is provided which pivots on a pendent part of the parallel bar 2030, the tail of this ratchet being pressed against the head of the pivot 1908 by im. spring 2070 compressed between the pawl and the hanging part of the parallel bar.
The pawl 2069 moves slightly upwards, then downwards, with the parallel bar 2030 and engages with a lug 2078 integral with the lever 2036 to pivot this lever - around - its pivot on the lever 2035 in compressing the spring 2043 and preventing the engagement of the ear 2061 in the notch 2057 of the locking bar 2055. In this way, this bar can move freely to the left (looking at fig. 6) to lock. the key in its lowered position.
The pawl 2069 must release the lever 2036. before the next intervention of the key release lever 2058, in order to prevent the same key from rotating in the event <B> where </B> it is kept lowered by the operator, this release action being provided by a lever 2079 (fig. 6)
mounted to be able to vote on a 1152 tree and fitted near its. upper end of a lug 2095 capable of coming to bear against the edges of a pointed extension 2096 of the pawl 2069 or of rotating this pawl and the release lever 2036 out of the way.
Lever 2079 (see also fig. 14) is controlled by the lowering mechanism of the carriage by means of a link 2097 pivoting on the lower end of lever 2079 and connected to a link 1713 (fig. 14 and 19) by means of a support arm 2098 articulated on the frame.
It can be seen from FIG. 19 that the rod 1713 pivots at 598 on an arm 1714 pinned to the shaft 600 on which the arm 597 of the roller which follows the profile of the cam is also pinned. The clutch 431 effects, through the intermediary of the cams 574, a disengagement of the lever 2036 away from the pawls 2069 before the return of the locking bar 2055 which is effected by the cam 747 (fig. 17).
The lug 2061. Of the lever 2036 is therefore free to prevent a return of the locking bar 2055 during the start of the operation of the clutch 431 under the action -a key -whose it is desired to ensure the clearance.
When a key is being lowered by the operator during a clutch 431 operation initiated by another key, it is not free to lower until the clutch release lever 2079 is released. pawl did not rotate under the action of cam 596 the lowering of the carriage and a little before the end of the return <B> of </B> the locking bar 2055 by the opening cam of the main clutch.
The lever 2036 is thus retained by the pawl 2069, so that the locking bar 2055 can be moved to the left and can lock the key in the down position.
After the main clutch hammer 395 has pivoted to determine the engagement of the main clutch 428, it is held in the pivot position by a latch 632 (Fig. 17) pivotally supported by a shaft. 626 and biased clockwise by a spring 633.
On the upper end of the lock 632 is mounted a roller 634 which bears against the left extension of the hammer - 395 of the clutch 428, so that, when this hammer rotates clockwise, the roller 634 rolls under this hammer to keep it in the pivoted position, despite the action of the spring 612.
To stop the machine after a predetermined number -multicyclic operations, -use the cams 2021, 2023 and 2024 as well as the elbow lever 2022 (fig. 9 and 10).
As shown in fig. 9, the right face of the cam 2021 has a side part 2070, so that at the start of a rotation of the cam 2021 clockwise or counterclockwise,
the end 2071 of the elbow lever 2022 with universal pivoting is released laterally and slides along the external face of the cam until its point has been crossed and the elbow lever is brought back into a cooperative relation with the- perimeter of the cam by the spring 2122 which closes a pin 2123 which serves as a guide and at the same time as a centering member of the lever 2022. When the cam approaches the end of its rotation, the elbow lever swivels counterclockwise.
This has the effect of rotating the lever 2072 clockwise around its pivot and at the same time rotating the lever 2117 in the opposite direction. This lever is pinned to the shaft 626 which (as shown in Fig. 17) is the shaft on which the lock 632 of the main clutch dog 426 is pinned. In this way, this reverse movement clockwise of lever 2117 also rotates latch 632 in that same direction, freeing hammer 395.
The internal face of the cam 2023 (fig. 9) is provided with similar leading faces, so that a roller 2077 carried by the elbow lever 2022 firstly overlaps the external face of this cam, then the periphery of the cam. the cam to cross its made.
When a selection of the number 2 is made, the cam 2024 turns under the action of the pinion 2020, and the roller 2077 follows the rotation of the triangular cam 2024 under the tension exerted by the spring 2122, which causes the levers 2072 to pivot. , 2117 and shaft 626 when crossing the ridge of cam 2024.
The reactive effect that occurs in the drive gear usually causes this triggering during the second cycle, but a lost motion link is provided between the cam 2024 and its pinion 2020, as shown in 2024a (fig. 10) to ensure it.
To perform an automatic movement of the carriage 250 to the left after each multiplication operation, the following mechanism is provided, as shown in fig: 19: The lever 570 carrying the ga let 573 which follows the profile of the cam 574 is provided (as shown) with a 1385 bracket supported by it and having a 1.386 lug. This ear is arranged to be placed normally over a shoulder 1390 integral with a floating lever 1377 which pivots at 1379 (FIG. 15) on the lever 1380 for controlling the movement.
The lever 1377 is calibrated at its left end (looking at fig. 15) to force the shoulder 1390 integral with the right end to bear upwards against the lug 1386.
When adjusting shaft 431 rotates at the start of a multiplication operation to cause said accumulator register to mesh with pinion 189, lever 570 rotates clockwise, forcing the accumulator to engage. ear 1386 to move to the right crossing the shoulder 1390 and allows the lever 1377 to come to occupy by pivoting a position in which the shoulder 1390 is in alignment with the left edge of the ear 1386.
When approaching the end of a multiplication operation and the links 566 are lifted by the springs 569 (fig. 19) under the control of the reset cam 596, the lug 1386 integral with the bracket 1385 of lever 570 attacks the shoulder 1390 provided on lever 1377 and thus forces this lever to rotate lever 1380 counterclockwise. A hammer 1383, pivoting on the upper end of the lever 1380, has two shoulders arranged opposite: one from the other and linked to its right end.
(looking at fig. 14).
In the calculating machine shown, dog 1383 is kept at all times in the position shown in fig. 14 by tm lever, part of which is represented by 1214. The upper shoulder of the hammer occupies a position allowing it .de to come and attack a lug 1384 integral with the connecting rod 1374 (fig. 21). As a result, when the lever 1380 pivots, the hammer 1383 attacks and moves the link 1374 to the left thereby causing the carriage 250 to move to the left.
To limit movement to a single stop, lever 1377 rotates clockwise when the movement of movement is near completion. A lever 1387 (fig. 15) pivots on a pin 1388 and has a tab 1389 placed below the left end of the link 1377.
The lower end of lever 1387 is arranged to be engaged by a cam plate 1367 provided with two diametrically opposed lobes and rotatably mounted on the sleeve 1371 provided on the shaft 1331. The plate 1367 is provided with a lug 1368 which protrudes relative to it and which is engaged in a notch made in the plate 1366 keyed on the shaft 1331.
To ensure the same @ time. of cyclic operation of lever 1387. in case the carriage movement mechanism is set to go to the right instead of to. on the left, according to a preferred arrangement, the notch made in the plate 136.6 extends over almost half of the per turn of this plate.
In this way, when the movement of the carriage comes almost to its end, and whatever the direction of rotation of the shaft 1331; one of the lobes of the cam plate 1367 attacks the lever 1387 and rotates it to subtract the lever 1377 from the retention of the lug 1386 provided on the lever 570: and thus allow the centering member 1403 to bring the displacement control mechanism to its neutral position.
Lowering the multiplier key corresponding to zero causes component 2090 (fig. 6) which is attached to shaft 2091 to rotate to initiate the operation of the displacement mechanism, as is. described below:
This movement also has the effect of lowering the lever 2035 and causing a certain displacement of the link 2033, but the parallel control bar 2030 is not lowered, and the link 2033 is not moved in one direction. measure suitable for making the clutch act.
However, the movement of the lever 2035 has the effect of bringing the heel 2062 into the notch 2092 of the key blocking bar 2055 to actuate this bar. <B> - </B> and thereby lock the rest of the multiplier keys when the zero key is pressed.
The lever 2090 pivots downwards under the action of the lowering of the zero key of the multiplier, and despite the resistance of a spring 1140 (fig. 14), a heel 1142 provided on it attacks a lug 1143 provided. at -one end of an elongated link 1144 which pivots at its opposite end on a lever 1145.
This is pinned to a shaft 1157 on which is also pinned an arm 1158 connected by a perforated slide 1158 'to the upper end of the lever 1380 which pivots on the shaft 1376: It follows that, when the touching zero, the shaft 1157 rotates clockwise, which causes the hammer 1383 to move the link 1374 to the left (looking at fig. 21) and thus ensures a displacement of the carriage 250 towards the left.
Lowering the zero key also has the effect of disabling the multiplier keys. If the zero key were held down until the lock bar 2055 returned to its locked position, it could be permanently locked in the down position, as a result of the engagement of the tab 2015 under the lock bar. .
To avoid this, the lever 1146 (fig. 14) is pivotally supported on a button 1149 integral with the frame and is provided at its right end with a lug able to engage in a notch 1147 made in the lower edge. of the locking bar 2055 under the action of a spring 1150 stretched between the lever 1146 and a button 1150 'suitably supported by the frame of the machine.
An ear 1148 integral with the lever 2090 normally maintains the lever 1146 out of engagement with the locking bar, which only allows it to come into engagement with it when the zero key is pressed which lowers the lever 2090. Thus, when the zero key is pressed, the lever 1146 engages with the notch 1147, which prevents the locking bar from coming to occupy its locking position. On the contrary, when the zero key is released, the lever 1146 pivots clockwise to remove the locking bar from this constraint.
If the zero key is lowered while the machine is carrying out a multiplication initiated by another multiplier key, it must be locked in the lower position until the movement of the carriage has taken place. to prime.
The rod 2097 (fig. 14) which is moved to the left by the lowering of the carriage is arranged to engage a lug 2099 provided on the lever 1146 to prevent the latch from engaging in the notch 1147 in such circumstances, so. that the locking bar 2055 can therefore lock the zero key in the lowered position until it is recalled backwards as a result of the movement of the carriage during the pivoting of the lever 2058 under the action of the 1394 arm so lidaire -de component 1396 (see fig. 6).
This occurs at the very end of the displacement which follows a multiplication, so that a second displacement follows, if a zero key has been stuck in the down position. So that the movement of the carriage initiated by the zero key is limited to a single stop, the link 1144 is raised to withdraw its lug 1143 from its engagement with the heel 1142 of the lever 2090, which allows the movement mechanism to regain. its neutral position.
This is accomplished by means of a lever 1355 (fig. 15) which is requested to engage with the two diametrically opposed rollers 1363 which are mounted on the plate 1362 (fig. 21) secured to the trigger shaft 1331. of displacement. The lever 1355 pivots on an axis 1351 and is articulated to a rod 1391 normally maintained in a position allowing it to strike an ear 1149 integral with the lever 1396 (FIG. 6).
So, around the middle of a displacement cycle, lever 1396 pivots counterclockwise and forces lug 1149 to attack the right side of floating link 1150 to move this link to the left and rotate the lever 1151 which is articulated on a shaft 1152. This lever is biased counterclockwise by a spring 1159 and is provided with a pendant arm which pivots on the floating link 1150, so that its pivoting under the effect of the latter takes place in a clockwise direction.
An ear 1153 adjacent to the left end of lever 1151 (see also fig. 14) is located below the link 1144 to attack it and raise it to a position where its lug 1143 crosses the heel 1142, as shown above.
As shown in fig. 15, a lever 139 <B> 2 </B> pivoting on a shaft 225 is requested to come to bear against an ear 1377 'integral with the floating lever 1377 by a spring 1382 stretched between the lever 1392 and a part 553.
A link 1403 is articulated on the lever 1392 and slidably supports the link 1391, so that when the floating lever 1377 is in the position shown in FIG. 15 and that the shoulder 1390 provided on it is located below the lug 1386 integral with the lever 570 (fig. 19), the connecting rod 1391 occupies a position allowing it to strike the lug 1393 of the lever 1396 (fig. . 6).
Since the zero multiplier key does not initiate a main clutch cycle, the chainrings (fig. 19) are not lowered, so lug 1386 is not moved to the side. back to allow lever 1377 to pivot counterclockwise to bring its shoulder 1390 to face lug 1386.
As a result, the lever 1392 is held to position the link 1391 so that it attacks and rotates the lever 1396 during the half-cyele following the displacement mechanism. However, each time the carriage is lowered to release the lug 1386 from a position surmounting the shoulder 1390 of the lever 1377, the latter pivots upwards and allows the lever 1302 to pivot clockwise. shows under the action of the spring 1382 to move the rod 1391 away from the position in which it can strike the lug 1393 of the lever 1396.
If the zero key is lowered while the machine is performing a calculation initiated by a previous lowering of a multiplier key, the move operation may be delayed until the previous operation is completed. initiated.
In other words, the encryption must be followed first by a movement representing a single step and automatically initiated, then by another movement of a single step initiated by the zero key. During this operation, the mechanism works as follows. If it is assumed that a multiplier key bearing a 9 has been lowered, when the carriage is raised at the end of the multiplication operation which As a result, the displacement mechanism is automatically started, as described above, by the impact of the lug 1386 (fig. 19) against the shoulder 1390 of the lever 1377.
When this operation is initiated, the 1380 ft unit votes by driving the link 1144 (fig. 14) to the left and allowing the lug 1413 provided on it to 'escape from the top of the heel 1142 to' to a position adjacent to its left end.
Assuming the zero multiplier key is locked in the down position, heel 1142 prevents link 1144 from turning to the right when, during the first carriage movement step, shoulder 1390 (fig. 15) is released from the lug 1386 by the pivoting of the lever 1387, a second movement step of the carriage then occurs.
The zero multiplier key is not released during the first step of the carriage movement, because when the lever 1355 (fig. 15) is pivoted, the shoulder 1390 of the link 1377 is in contact with the lug 1386 and that the lever 1392 therefore rotates sufficiently clockwise to lift the member 1391 to a position in which they act on the lever 1396 (fig. 6),
so that the key release lever 2058 is not moved by the lever 1396 to move the locking bar 2055.
During the second step of the movement of the carriage, the members however occupy the position shown in FIG. 15, so that when the member 1355 pivots, the link 1391 engages the lug 1393 of the lever 1396 and rotates that lever, which releases the zero multiplier key.
Accumulator <I> and </I> counter. Mechanism <I> indication of decimals. </I> Devices controlled in cooperation by the mechanism for determining the decimal places of the multiplicand described above and the mechanism for determining the decimal places of the multiplier described below are provided to automatically indicate the decimal point of a product. appearing in the accumulator or product indicator register as well as to indicate the decimal point of the multiplier that appears. in the counter register.
The product decimal indicator mechanism comprises a shaft 300 (Fig. 5) slidably keyed in bearings formed in end plates 302 of the carriage 250 directly below a number of windows 301 through which we can see the decimals and which are practi c in the cover of the carriage. Each of the windows 301 is located midway between two adjacent windows 418 of the accumulator register.
The shaft 300 is normally held in its rightmost position by a compression spring 294 interposed between the right support plate 255 of the carriage 250 and a collar 298 suitably attached to the shaft 300, and is provided with several manehons 303 at the rate of one next to each of the windows 301. These sleeves 303 are slidably keyed on the shaft 300 and the right half of each of them is painted in a color harmonized with the color of the carriage cover, while its left half is.
painted in another color.
Normally, the various sleeves 303 are placed, as described below, in their leftmost position relative to the carriage cover, so that the right half of each sleeve is visible through the corresponding window 301. . However, any of the sleeves 303 can be moved to the right of the carriage,
in order to show its left half colored differently by the corresponding window and to indicate the position of the comma. Means are provided to hold each sleeve 30.3 elastically in one or the other of the two different positions.
As shown in fig. 4, each sleeve 303 has two spaced notches 304 made on its underside and arranged to be attacked by a ball 305 movable in a hole made in a cam plate 307 cut by a number of notches ( fig. 3) interlocking with corresponding notches made in the various support plates 255 of the carriage 250.
A leaf spring 306 is suitably attached to the underside of the cam plate 307 to bring the balls 305 into engagement with one or the other of the notches 304 made in the sleeves 303.
Each of the decimal markers 113 of the keyboard described above (fig. 5) ends with an offset or angled end 309 which enters a groove made in each of a series of sliders 311 for determining the decimal places (see also fig. 2). One of these slides 311 is provided for each marker 113, and all of them are slidably keyed on a shaft 312 which pivots in bearings formed in the plates fixed to the underside of the fixed cover 147.
Each slide 311 is provided with a beak 314 projecting upwardly with respect to it and arranged to engage ears 308 provided on the heels of the sleeves 303 under certain conditions, as described below.
The shaft 312 is normally maintained in the position in which it is shown in FIG. 2, that is to say in the position for which all the nozzles 314 of the slides 311 are kept out of the path of movement during the movement of the carriage of the various ears 308 integral with the sleeves 303. However, as described below , when setting the decimal point indicator of the multiplier, the shaft 312 rotates slightly clockwise, which has the effect of bringing the jaws 314 into the path of movement of the ears 308.
It will be noted, referring to FIG. 5, that all the markers 113 which could be brought by pivoting into a position suitable for indicating the place of the decimal places of the multiplier, such as for example the second marker from the right, will have moved the slide 311 to the left and some distance from the corresponding ear 3.08 of the sleeve 303 to the left of the marker 113 which has rotated. All other markers 113 will place their bucket grouts 311 slightly to the right of the corresponding ears.
In this way, when one of the sliders 311 is placed to the left of the lug 308 - of the corresponding sleeve 303 (depending on the position occupied by the carriage at that time) and the shaft 312 pivots clockwise. 'a watch when determining the decimal of the multiplier, the subsequent automatic displacement of the chain 250 to the left allows, as described above, the beak 314 of the active slide 311 to come and attack the corresponding ear 308 and, prevent its sleeve 303 from moving to the left with the carriage.
This man chon 303 therefore takes its position furthest to the right with respect to the carriage, that is to say the position in which it shows an indication of the decimal point. Subsequently, but before the movement equal to a single step of the carriage has ended, the camshafts 316 forming (fig. 2 and 3), joined to the cam plate 307, attack the slats 314 and push them back. by returning the shaft 312 to its initial position shown in FIG. 2.
Therefore, the nozzles 314 integral with all inactive columns pivot away from the ears 308 before the carriage has moved far enough laterally to bring them into contact with the ears 308 of the corresponding sleeves 303.
The decimal point of the multiplier which appears on the counter register 1874 is also indicated automatically by the mechanism, and a shaft 318 (fig. 2 and 5) is provided for this purpose sliding in bearings made in the terminal flanges 302 and in the offset legs 255a of the support plates 255 of the carriage. A compression spring 319 is interposed between the plate 255 placed furthest to the right and a collar 320 pinned to the shaft 318, in order to normally maintain this shaft in its right position.
A number of sleeves 321 are slidably keyed on the shaft 318; they carry indicators 322, the right half of each of which is painted in a color harmonizing with the color of the cover of the carriage, while its left half is painted in a color which contrasts with that of the pot.
Each sleeve 321 is equipped with a compression spring 324 mounted in a recess made inside and interposed between the adjacent tab 255a of a support plate 255 and the end of the recess made in the sleeve, in order to stress this to the right against a collet 325, the position in which the right half of the respective indicator 322 is in the alignment of a window 323 for indicating the decimal places placed halfway between each window 1874 of the counter dial, to indicate the location of the decimal point. However,
each sleeve 321 is normally prevented from moving to the right by a rod 326 (fig. 2) which attacks the right end of the respective sleeve 321 to hold it in the position shown in fig. 5. Each rod 326 is slidably mounted in a bearing formed in a tab 327 fixed to an adjacent support plate 255 and pivots at its lower end on an elbow lever 328 which itself pivots on a support rod 329 carried by the various plates. 255.
A second rod - 330 is articulated on each elbow lever 328 and is slidably mounted in a bearing formed in a lug 332 also supported by an adja cente plate 255.
A single arm 333 (fig. 2 and 5) provided with a spout 334 forming a cam is keyed on the shaft 312 in line with the keyboard column placed near the rightmost keyboard column of the machine. .
When the shaft 312 rotates clockwise, the cam 334 engages, during the movement of the carriage to the left, a part -deflector 331 which is attached to the rod 330 of the following column - of the carriage to the right to push this rod 330 to the right (looking at fig. 2), which has the effect of rotating the elbow lever 328 and removing the upper end of the rod 326 from engagement of the corresponding sleeve 321, despite the antagonism of a tension spring 490 placed between the elbow lever 328 and a stud fixed to an adjacent support plate.
The respective compression spring 324 then intervenes to move the sleeve 321 to the right and allow the indicator 322 to show an indication of the decimal point of the multiplier recorded in the counter register.
Mechanism <I> of </I> determination <I> of </I> decimal places. The device which rotates the shaft 312 (fig. 2) to correctly set the decimal place in the accumulator and the counter during a multiplication calculation includes the 2000 decimal multiplier keys (fig. 1, 6, 7 and 8).
The lowering of any one of these decimal keys results in a multiplication of a factor determined on the keyboard by the number indicated on the lowered key, in the same way as by the 2002 keys; it also has the consequence of controlling the pivoting of the shaft 312 to correctly indicate the location of the decimal point in the multiplier and the product on the corresponding registers.
Thus, for example, if one wants to multiply a certain multiplicand by the multiplier 37.52, the operator must first press the multiplier keys 3 and 7, then press the key. decimal 0.5. The lowering of this last key controls the indication of the decimal point in the registers of the multiplier and the product. The operator can then lower either the f key or the, 2 key indicated by 2002 or 2000 to ensure the multiplication by the last factor of the multiplier, as shown below.
If one examines in particular FIG. 7, it is seen that the multiplier keys 2000 are juxtaposed with the corresponding keys 2002 and that the rods 336 of these keys are cut with inclined slots 337 guided by studs 338 projecting from the rod 1876 of the adjacent multiplier key. A spring 339 is interposed between the lowest stud 338 of each key rod 1876 and a tab 340 integral with the rod 336 of the corresponding decimal key, in order to normally maintain the key 2000 in the position shown in FIG. 7.
Thus, when a multiplier key 2002 is lowered despite the action of the compression spring 1878 to effect a multiplication, the corresponding key 2000 is lowered, but without being moved transversely.
On the other hand, when a key 2000 is lowered, as the spring 339 is weaker than the spring 1878, it is first compressed, so that the rod 336 of the key moves transversely under the guidance of the studs 338 until 'to the position drawn in phantom in fig. 7, that is to say the position in which the studs 338 are engaged in the upper ends of the slots 337.
A further lowering of the 2000 button ensures that the 2002 button and its stem are lowered. <B> 1876 </B> to initiate a midtiplication operation in the usual way.
A protrusion 340 is provided on each key shank 336. When any of the keys 2000 is pressed, this protrusion 340 is moved transversely to a position for which the lowering of the key while increasing requires it. in attacking and pushing back an inclined ear 341 integral with a bar 342 (Fig. 6, 7 and 15) towards the rear. This bar 342 has a series of elongated slots 343 which are guided on studs 344 extending from tabs 345 folded up and integral with the frame 1877 of the multiplication keys.
A tip 346 (Fig. 6) pivots on a pro longing of the bar 342 to the right about an axis 347; it is biased counterclockwise by a res out of compression 348 placed between this bar 342 and the end piece 346 with a view to its engagement with 'm lug 349 mounted on the lower end of an arm 350 keyed. on the shaft 312 supporting the decimal slider.
When all of the 2000 keys are out of range. bar 342, a tension spring 353, extending between the left end of this bar and a portion (not shown) of the machine frame, holds bar 342 in its leftmost position which is shown in fig. 6, that is to say in the position for which an arm 351 of the end piece 346 attacks a fixed lug 352, in order to 'withdraw this end piece from the action of the compression spring 348 and out of the reach of the lug 349.
At the moment when the bar 342 is pushed backwards following the lowering of a key 2000, a shoulder 354 integral with the end piece 346 is moved to a position situated behind the lug 349. , so that the spring 348 intervenes to lift this shoulder behind the lug.
When the button 2000 is lowered to the full stroke, the projection 340 of the button rod 336 passes below the corresponding lug 341 of the bar 342, which allows the spring 353 to return. this bar until it is retained by other means, as described below.
During this recall, the tip 346 rotates the arm 350 and the shaft 312 clockwise to position the sliders 311 for adjusting the decimal places (fig. 5) in the path of movement of the ears. 308 of the man chon 303 and to place the arm 333 in a position suitable for pushing back one of the rods 330 (FIG. 2) in order to make a comma appear in the counter register.
Towards the end of this return, the arm 351 of the end piece 346 attacks the lug 352 (fig. 6) to cause this member to pivot and thereby remove the shoulder 354 from the engagement of the lug 349. , this yes allows the shaft 312 to then be pushed back to its initial position during the movement of the carriage under the action of the cam plate 307, as described above.
The lug 349 passes through the arm 350 and is engaged with a pawl 356 (fig. 8) which pivots on the section 1877 of the frame which includes the multiplier keys by means of a pin 357 and which is biased upwards by a spring. 358 stretched between this pawl and a button 359 suitably fixed to the frame of the machine.
The pawl 356 has two notches spaced in either of which can engage the lug 349 to elastically hold the arm 350 and the shaft 312 in either of the two positions. above.
A device is provided to prevent the bar 342 (Figs. 6 and 15) from moving to the left to bring the shaft 312. by pivoting into the active position when one of the decimal multiplier keys is pressed. 2000 until the lock bar 2055 has been moved to the right, as previously described, to release the 2002 multiplier key which has been lowered.
This arrangement is necessary in the machine described, so that the shaft 312 has no chance of rotating clockwise as soon as a key 2000 is pressed and while the machine is performing a shift operation. multiplication initiated by a key 2002.
On the lower edge of the bar 342 is a tab 360 (Fig. 15) arranged to be attacked by an ear 361 integral with an arm 362 pivotally supported by the rear stud 344, which is mounted or implanted in a tab 345 directed towards the rear and integral with the section 1877 of the frame.
A res sort of compression 366 is interposed between a hanging ear 364 integral with the frame 362 and a tab 365 -of this frame section 1877, in order to urge the arm 362 in the direction of clockwise and to cause the release of the ear 361 with the left edge of the tab 360 of the bar 342 when the latter is pushed backwards by the lowering of a key 2000.
This bar 342 must therefore be able to be moved to the left, but only by a small distance, until the moment when the locking bar 2055 is moved to the right by the lever 2058 (fig. 6). At this point, bar 2055 attacks ear 364 (Fig. 15) and rotates arm 362 counterclockwise while releasing bar 342 for movement to the left by the lever. spring 353 (fig. 6).
In the event that the 2000 decimal zero multiplier key is depressed while the machine is performing a multiplication operation, the shaft 312 should not rotate until the multiplication is completed and the automatic movement following this multiplication has - at least not been initiated - At the same time,
the shaft 312 must pi vote clockwise until it comes to occupy its active position before the movement initiated by the zero key has progressed by a notable amount, and as bar 2055 does not is not moved to the right in order to disengage the zero multiplier key early enough during the movement initiated by this key, it is necessary to provide an additional device which releases the bar 342 from the latch 362 earlier in the movement.
To ensure this correct adjustment over time of the operation of the shaft 312, the return of the bar 342 to the left (looking at fig. 6 and 15) by the spring 353 is jointly controlled by the zero multiplier key. and by the mechanism which conditions the release of this key.
* A link 367 (fig. 15) pivots around an axis 368 on the link 1403 which, as indicated above, is controlled by the lever 1392 and the floating link 1377 to bring the link 1391 in the pivot position operation of the lever 1396 (see also Fig. 6) after an automatic movement is substantially completed, so that subsequent operation of the movement mechanism releases the zero multiplier key.
The other end of the link 367 has an elongated slot 369 which encloses a lug 370 integral with the lever 2090 which pivots downward as a result of the lowering of said key or of the zero decimal multiplier key to trigger a shift. of the carriage equal to one step or then cause a second movement if the button is lowered during operation initiated by another button.
A lug 372 is mounted on the link 367 near its right end (looking at fig. 15) and is engaged in an elongated slot 373 made in a second link 374 which votes at its upper end on the arm 362 around of an axis 375.
Ordinarily, when a decimal multiplier key other than the zero decimal multiplier key is pressed, the elongated slot 373 in the link 374 allows the arm 362 to pivot under the action of the lock bar 2055 to release the lock bar. bar 342 without lowering the rod 367.
However if, during a multiplication operation initiated by one of the 2002 keys, the zero decimal multiplier key (Fig. 15) is depressed, lever 2090 will pivot the left end of link 367 downward. , but, at this time, the lug 1386 (fig. 15 and 19) is in engagement with the right edge of the shoulder 1390 of the floating lever 1377 to allow the spring 1382 to hold the link 1403 and therefore ,
the right end of the link 367 upwards in a position for which the lug 372 provided for the link 367 has no effect in keeping the link 374 down, so that the lug 361 of the arm 362 remains in locking engagement with the tab 360 integral with the arm 342.
At the moment when the automatically initiated movement of the carriage which follows the multiplication is substantially completed and the second movement caused by the lowering of the multiplier key begins, one of the lobes of the 1367 cam plate attacks and rotates the .ever 1387 to force. the tab 1389 provided on it to rotate the floating lever 1377 clockwise by forcing the lever 1392 to lower the link 1403 and, consequently, the right end of the connecting rod 367.
The rod 374 is therefore pulled down to release the lug 361 integral with the arm 362 of the tab 360 and allow the bar 342 to rotate the shaft 312 (Fig. 2 and 6) clockwise. of a watch to its active position within a period allowing the setting of the decimal point indicators during the movement caused by the lowering of the zero multiplier key.
A device is provided to prevent a second pushing motion from being applied to bar 342 by a decimal multiplier key 2000 after bar a. already been postponed during any multiplication operation. A number of interlocking devices 376 are provided for this purpose (fi-.
6 and 7) im next to each decimal multiplier key. Each engaging member 376 is cut from an elongated slot 377 made in its lower end and which encloses two buttons 378 forming shoulders secured to a locking bar 379.
A number of tabs 380 hang below bar 379 and can slide into slots 381 made in the lower rim of frame section 1877 to guide bar 379 in the longitudinal direction. The upper ends of the engagement members 376 are guided in slots formed in a guide strip 382 suitably secured to the underside of the upper rim of the frame 1877.
Each of the members 376 is biased to the right (looking at Fig. 6) relative to the bar 379 by a coil spring - 383 the turns of which are wound around a button 384 extending from the bar. organ 376 and the ends of which are interposed between a lug 385 integral with the or gane 376 and one of the buttons 378 supported by the bar 379.
A shoulder button 389 is mounted on bar 379 and passes through an elongated slot 390 in bar 342. When bar 342 is pushed to the right as a result of lowering one of the decimal multiplier keys 2000, the button 389 engages the end of the slot 390 to also pull the bar 379 to the right from the position shown in FIG. 6 to a position in which all of the latches 376, except the one adjacent to the lowered decimal multiplier key, are at the right ends (looking at fig. 7)
protrusions 340 of the rods 336 of the decimal multiplier keys.
A spring 387 (Fig. 6) is mounted on the rear end of section 1877 of the multiplier key frame and is intended to engage one or the other of two spaced detents 388 provided in bar 379 for keep it in one or the other of its two adjustment positions.
As the latch bar 379 is moved to the right by the bar 342, when a decimal multiplier key 2000 is lowered, the latch 376 which is adjacent to the current key. The lowering hits the left face of the protrusion 340 of this key (looking at Fig. 6) and thus forces the respective spring 383 to yield.
When the lowered multiplier button is allowed to be brought back by its spring 339 (fig. 7), the latching member 376 comes to its latched position under the action of the spring 383. For the rest of the time. In the multiplication operation, the bar 379 is held rearwardly by the spring 387, and the various latches 376 prevent any of the decimal multiplier keys 2000 from pushing the bar 342 back again. the rear.
However, the keys 2000 still have the possibility of being lowered, but, during this movement, the outer faces of the projections 340 (Fig. 7) simply slide along the adjacent faces of the latch 376 and thus do not cause than simply lowering the corresponding multiplier keys 2002. Bar 379 is returned to its left position when the decimal point indicators are cleared, as described below.
Although in most cases it is sufficient to introduce a single decimal point in the result of a multiplication that appears in the product register, the. This machine is capable of entering two or more decimal points into the product register, in order to cope with certain types of computation in which this introduction of multiple decimal points is desirable.
A common type of problem in which it may be desirable to automatically enter more than one decimal point at a time into the product register is the problem of calculating inventories or the like in which two different multiplicands (cost price and sale price of an article) are multiplied simultaneously by the same multiplier,
that is, by the quantity of items in the store. In this hypothesis, the cost price would be introduced, for example, in the left part of the keyboard and the sale price in its right part, while the appropriate decimal comma markers 113 for each of these two factors would be operated in the usual manner. The quantity, which may include fractional amounts, is then entered into the multiplier 2002 keys and the multiplier decimal point is tuned as usual by pressing the appropriate decimal point 2000 key.
The total cost price will then appear in the left part of the product register and the total sale price in the right part of this register. The location of the decimal point of the two results is, of course, determined by two of the decimal point indicating sleeves 303 of the product as described above.
Mechanism <I> resetting the </I> indicators <I> decimals and register. </I>
As described in detail in the Swiss patent mentioned above, reset devices placed under the control of the keys 373 and 1910 (fig. 1) are provided to empty the registers 418 of the accumulator or of the product and the registers. 1874 of the multiplier or counter. The same keys 373 and 1910 are preferably used to clear or reset the decimal point flags for the respective two registers.
As shown in fig. 16, the shaft 320 'for resetting the accumulator register carries an arm 372' fixed to 111i and attacked by a roller 371 'supported by a second arm 370' fixed to the shaft 259 of the carriage support (fig. . 2, 6 and 16). An arm 368 keyed sliding on the shaft 259 is connected by a rod 476 to a cam follower lever 471- which pivots on a shaft 478 and which carries 1.1n roller 479 mounted on it and attacking the turn of an accumulator release cam 480.
This cam is controlled by a clutch (not shown), itself controlled by the reset keys 373 (fig. 1) and acts by its rotation to make the arm 471 vote first in the direction of hands, clockwise, then counterclockwise. This pivoting movement is transmitted by the connecting rod 476 and the arm 368 to the shaft 259, then. To the arms 370 'and 372',
to the accumulator reset shaft 320 'to ensure that the accumulator register is reset. The arm 3 "r0 'has an inclined deflector tab 484 (fig. 5 and 16) extending upwards and intended, when the arm 370' pivots, to engage the end of the shaft 300 and to push it back towards the left (looking at fig. 5) while compressing the spring 294.
In the vicinity of each of the decimal sleeves 303 is a collar 485 pinned to the shaft 300 and intended, when this shaft is pushed to the left by the deflector tab 484, to attack and move to the left any slide 303 which was previously moved to the right relative to carriage 250, this cancels all decimal indications which are visible in windows 301 corresponding to the decimal places of the accumulator register.
The shaft 1921 for emptying or resetting the counter register is provided with an arm 1920 (fig. 16) fixed to it and engaged by a roller 1919 'supported by a second arm 1919 fixed to the shaft 260 for supporting the counter. upper carriage. On this shaft 260 is sliding keyed an arm 1917 articulated by means of a rod 1918 to the arm 1916 of a roller following the periphery of the cam, this arm 1916 being able to pivot on the shaft 478.
A roller 1914, mounted on the lower end of the lever 1916, attacks the periphery of a counter emptying cam 1915 which is actuated by a suitable clutch on the control of the reset button 1910 (fig. 1). Thus, the rotation of the cam 1915 determines a pivoting movement of the shaft 260 and rotates, through the intermediary of the arms 1919 and 1920, the counter emptying shaft 1921, in order to reset the counter. counter register.
With the roller 1919 'is also engaged a lever 486 which pivots at 487 on the end flange 302 of the carriage and which is biased clockwise to engage with the roller 1919' by a spring 489 stretched between the lever 486 and a lug rising above d11. flange 302.
The lever 486 has an inclined deflector tab 488 which, when the lever 486 pivots under the action of the arm 1919, attacks. And pushes to the left the shaft 318 (fig. 5 and 16), which forces the collars. 325 to push back any sleeve 321 released against the tabs 255a until the corresponding rod 326 (fig. 2) can engage in the locking position with the sleeve under the action of a spring 490 stretched between the lever elbow 328 and a lug fixed to one of the plates 255 of the carriage.
The pivoting of the shaft 259 of the carriage to reset the accumulator register and the decimal point indicators to zero therefore also has the effect of moving the bar 379 (FIG. 6) to its left ide position which is shown. For this purpose, an arm 491 is keyed to slide on the shaft 259.
Suitable guide members (not shown) are provided to prevent movement of lever 491 at the same time as longitudinal movement of shaft 259, and a lug 492 is mounted on its lower end; it is engaged in a slot made in a lever 493 which pivots on a button 494.
A lug 495 projecting from the lower end of the lever 493 is provided so that when the shaft 259 pivots counterclockwise under the action of the cam 480 (fig. 16) under control of the reset button 375 (fig. 1), this lug 495 attacks the right end of the bar 379 and moves it to the left. In this way, the various engagement members 376 are withdrawn from their engagement with the respective keys 2000.
If necessary, lever 486 (Fig. 16) can be omitted, and a deflector tab (not shown) can be attached to arm 372 'in a position such that it can engage and push shaft 318 to the left ( keeping in mind fig. 5). Thus, both the accumulator decimal indicating mechanism and the counter decimal indicating mechanism can be reset to zero when the accumulator register is emptied under the control of key 373 (FIG. 1).
Alternatively, an extension (not shown) - may be provided on bar 379 (fig. 6) and may occupy a location such that it is engaged by a suitable keyed lever sliding on the carriage support shaft 260. upper (fig. 2 and 16), so that the bar 379 is returned to its position shown in fig. 5 when the counter register or the accumulator register is reset.
Variant <I> of </I> the <I> command of </I> multiplier. In fig. 23 and 24 is shown an alternative embodiment of the mechanism for determining the decimal places of the multiplier. In this arrangement, the multiplication is effected by keeping the main clutch 428 engaged for a desired number of cycles counted by the operator, then by actuating the manual control to cause the disengagement of the clutch.
Since the details of the mechanism operated by the clutch 430 for engaging the main clutch 428 are in principle the same as those shown in FIG. 17, it suffices to refer to this figure as well as to the related description in order to understand the operation of these two clutches.
A multiplier key 701 is provided to control the multiplication and to selectively rotate the shaft 312, to introduce a decimal point indication into the accumulator register and the counter register, in the same manner as described. next to fig. 5 and 6. The rod 701 'of the key 701 is provided with a narrow upper slot 703 and a wide lower slot 704.
The first of these slots encloses a button 702 forming a shoulder mounted on a console 705 (FIG. 23) suitably secured to the underside of the cover 706 of the keyboard. The slot 704 is movable along a second button 707 forming a shoulder also secured to the console 705, and the button is normally brought by pivoting into an extreme position by a movement in the counterclockwise direction, so that the left edge of slot 704 (fig. 24)
is engaged against the button 707 by the action of iui spring 708 stretched between an ear 709 of the rod 701 'of the key and a tab 710 which hangs below the cover 706 .du keyboard. This spring 708 also tends to maintain the key 701 in its raised position as shown.
By lowering the key 701, the front edge of the key 701 'is impacted against a bar 503 articulated to a frame 505 by an axis 507 and also articulated to a lever 504 by an axis 509. The frame 505 and the lever 504 together form a parallelogram and pivot respectively on the frame of the machine at 510 and 506.
A spring 511 is stretched between the rear end of the lever 504 and a part of the frame of the machine, in order to normally maintain the bar 503 in the upper position which is shown. A rod 512 is articulated on the frame 505 by an axis 513; she is.
cut at its lower end by a notch 514 which, thanks to a spring 515 stretched between the arm, the short phis of the rod 512 and the bar 503, normally maintains the rod 512 so that its notch 514 engages an ear 516 integral with clutch hammer 394.
As the bar 503 swings to the right and down as a result of the lowering of the key 701, which forces the link 512 to move the hammer 394 for the 1st <B> de- </B> gager of the clutch 430, an ear 517 seen on the bar 503 is spaced from an arm 518 pinned to the shaft 626 to allow the tension spring 633 (fig. 17) to pivot the lock 632 of the main clutch described above, in order to bring it into the locking position of the hammer 395 to keep this hammer out of its disengagement engagement with respect to the main clutch 428 when this hammer has pivoted under the clutch action 430.
In addition, the rod 512 moves away from its engagement with the hammer 394 by pivoting under the action of a device (not shown) thanks to which the adjustment shaft can come to rest at the end of its first cycle. The machine therefore continues to operate until the operator allows key 701 to get up. As the bar 503 rises, the lug 517 attacks the arm 518 and rotates the latch 632 away from its engaged position with the dog 395 of the main clutch, allowing the spring tension 612 (fig. 17) to cause the release of the main clutch 428 by this hammer 395.
It will be noted by examining fig. 24 that the multiplier key 701 is provided with a concave part 712 placed directly above the key shank 701 'and a convex part 713 offset from this key shank. By striking the concave part 712 as a result of the lowering of a finger, the spring 708 guides the left edge of the flared slot 704 along the button 707 and thus allows the button rod 701 'to strike the button. bar 503 while escaping from contact with the arm directed towards the front of an angled lever 714 pivoting on the frame around an axis 715 adjacent to the bar 503.
However, when the convex part 713 is struck by a force directed downwards, the key bears on the axis 702, despite the action of the spring 708, and thus forces the right edge of the slot 704 to come. engaged with button 707. When the touch rod <B> 701 ' </B> is in this position, it in fact occupies a position .lui allowing to strike both the bar 503 and the arm forming the pro longement of the bent lever 714 and to rotate these two members during its. downward stroke.
The bent lever 714 is connected by a link 716 (FIG. 23) to an arm 717 fixed to the shaft 312, in order to bring this shaft into effective engagement by pivoting for the purpose described above with reference to FIGS. 2, 5 and 6.
The subsequent movement of the carriage, which is effected either manually or mechanically from the motor, then causes the setting of the decimal point indicators in the manner described in connection with the preferred embodiment of the invention.
If desired, suitable indices like those shown in fig. 25 may be applied to the convex and concave portions of key 701 to facilitate determination of which of the portions of the key should be struck during a multiplication operation involving decimal places.
